Wow--incredible performance! This work is just transcendently beautiful anyway, but without some care it can sound too casual. It's one of the sacred music compositions that commands reverence, even with its jazz-inspired harmonies. The tightly clustered tensions in the melody resolve into the tonic just as compactly. Biebl proves how important a command of counterpoint is for any serious composer. The approach of a finis at 5:23 is inescapably heartbreaking, especially in the genius, languid use of IV9, but impossibly reassuring as well. I'm emotionally spent but grateful after listening to such a wonderful ensemble do justice to this work. Thank you so much!
I've seen dozens and dozens of recordings and listened to the song countless times, and this is the first performance I've found that can rival that of Chanticleer. Absolute bravo, gentlemen! The final note should have been carried an extra couple seconds for a stronger, more emphatic finish, but otherwise felt flawless. Thank you so much for your performance!
