    Mordin is one of the most loyal crew members, at least to me he is. Curing the genophage is one of the most heroic things Shepard can do, and Mordin is one of the most selfless people (at least at the end) because he gives up his life to fix a wrong he committed.

    Anyone else notice how Shepard shoots Mordin with the Carnifex. The gun Mordin gave him back on Omega? That's why Shepard throws his gun off to the side in disgust.

    Genophage was no mistake. Sad but necessary decision. Moments like this make ME memorable.

    • @OldPervertedHerbert
      @OldPervertedHerbert Před rokem

      This is an old comment obviously, but the Genophage was entirely necessary. It didn’t eradicate an entire species, it just diminished their constant devastation on the universe. Eve was honest when she said the Krogan destroyed their own homeworld when they got technology. There are other planets you can visit that were completely ruined by Krogan not being able to control themselves. The ME lore is filled with the Krogan destroying. One decent Krogan (Wrex) is not going to change their nature. Hell even Wrex tried killing you in the first game and took much persuasion to stop.

    Despite how horrific this ending to this mission is, the music score as the "cure" disperses is hauntingly beautiful. And the silence that follows after really hammers it home. It's a stark contrast to the music that plays if the genophage is actually cured.
    The whole ME3 soundtrack is an absolute masterpiece.

  • @ikaemos
    @ikaemos Před 12 lety +8

    The goodwill of the krogan only depends on which leaders they'll have after the war. If both Wrex and Eve are dead, you're stuck with the krogan at their worst. Then again, the trip through the ruins serves to show you the krogan CAN be civilized, they just need the right circumstances.So, really, there's no "fucked up" choice.

  • @Solarnova
    @Solarnova Před 10 lety +21

    This was more gut-wrenching than when the Genophage was cured on my first playthrough.
    In the end, shooting Mordin is the only choice. The Krogan cannot be allowed to populate that galaxy, or else they're like just another Reaper Invasion in between cycles.

    • @JThom529

      Tobisaru Don't be shortsighted. Think in terms of future generations. The Krogans will breed wildly out of control and be forced into either war or starvation. It's not their fault but that doesn't mean we should sacrifice the galaxy to them either.

    • @onikiller815
      @onikiller815 Před 8 lety +10

      +Pierre Kirby Wrex's influence on the next generations of Krogan would also probably stop it. If both Wrex and Eve live, they'll basically the current most diplomatic Krogan and since they're in charge, they might actually be able to make their race act better and more well mannered than they once were.

      I really dislike that they pushed the cure so heavily in ME 3.
      Its better in literally every way (war assets, companions and so on) except for if you consider the state of the galaxy if the reapers are stopped.
      It would have been way more interesting if f.e. Mordin would've pushed against the cure while wrex was for it and you had to choose between the 2.

  • @Hoezi02
    @Hoezi02 Před 2 lety +8

    The ironic thing is, that mordin THINKING he made a mistake IS the actual mistake.
    The genophage was the logical step to stop the krogan from overrunning the galaxy.
    Logically and statistically it makes sense, which is why he is adamant about it being the right choice in ME 2.
    In ME 3 working with the krogan females and Eve he saw the effects and how desperate the Krogan are for a cure firsthand.
    That's why i believe his judgment is clouded by emotions for the first time. Which makes him think the genophage is wrong. (Which it isn't, if you care about the Galaxy after the reapers.)

The genophage, Ashley's xenophobia, Bioware went full apologist because a few pansies cant get their heads around actual morally realistic decisions.

    Curing the genophage didn't seem like a problem to me:
    - Salarians no longer have Mordin to "get it right"... for future special weapons without considerable time investment
    -Turians rely on their combat prowess...countered by Krogen toughness with a side or regeneration
    -asari rely on biotics...countered by krogen mass and armor resist...
    -humans see bigger problem and simply build bigger mech...after over a thousand years it took humans to finally build a proper counter to krogens

    English is my second langues so sorry if I am not perfect at it.
    Which yes the krogan may, but they may not start a war, and dooming them to something like the genophage is just cruel.
    It better to wipe them out, then making them live with something like that.
    If the genophage just lower their fertility, then that would be fine.
    However, the way it works is crueler then any death.
    The way it works, is what making the krogan such heartless bastards all around.

  • @Eierfeile
    @Eierfeile Před 12 lety

    You would assume that but you have the same scene with Padok Witts if Mordin dies in ME2 so I guess it's rather a coincidence. Always remind not to give BW too much credit for storywriting. See the Indoctrination theory that turned out to be so very wrong ^^ and i knew it

  • @JabamiLain
    @JabamiLain Před 3 lety

    I recently found out that if you do the "Leviathan" dlc before this mission, assuming you have both Wrex and Eve alive, then if you sabotage the cure, Wrex isn't going to attack Sherpard on the Citadel, probably because the Leviathans indoctrinate the Krogan in order to keep them in line.
    I know this is immoral and unethical but I'm tempted to do it in order to get the support of both fleets (I haven't made up my mind yet), which might be necessary if I want to unlock all endings besides "Control", since I kept the Collector base back in "Mass Effect 2". And before you say anything about dooming the Krogans, Mordin isn't stupid, he would have stored the data he used to make the cure somewhere as a backup plan. So while the Krogans might be kept from the cure now, in the future, after the war, it can be replicated and spread in an alternative way. I know this is risky, because the deaths they'll suffer could keep them from reaching that age due to insufficient population, but that's exactly why Okeer created Grunt, so that his existance could influence the Krogans to carry the Genophage but ignore it, which means, maybe their deaths wouldn't so many, should they be truly strong. And if that fails, well, there's always the option of dissection in order to know how he was made and clone him so that the race has a chance at survival until a new cure can be created.

    2.
    Wrex is alive but Eve is dead, this depents on the fact if you destroyed the data from Maleon's research or not. Then you can talk mordin into faking the cure but wrex will find out later in the game and you have to kill him so you dont have Krogan support in the end game. If Wreav is the krogan king he still think the cure works and you get both war assets
