I'm kind of envious of Boston Dynamics. I wish I was smart enough or wealthy enough to have a company developing cutting-edge robots.
This is exciting times. Technology and science is needed now more than ever before in history to radically change our world and address global problems.

They are not self repairing, or fault tolerant. If one motor dies, the whole thing just keels over.

@@CubicSpline7713 I don't see how that's relevant. If one is talking "warfare" then humans are generally out of the battle when hit once, too. Heck, lots of military techniques aim to wound, as a wounded human is a burden. A damaged bot can be salvaged or destroyed at a whim.
And when a platoon of interconnected and "better than Audie Murphy" bots comes for you and yours, say goodnight (and it would be child's play to insert cutoff valves wherever a "tourniquet" would be appropriate in a bot's design).
Wiki: Murphy received the Medal of Honor for valor that he demonstrated at the age of 19 for single-handedly holding off a company of German soldiers for an hour at the Colmar Pocket in France in January 1945, then leading a successful counterattack while wounded and out of ammunition.
So, yeah, not an exact example as Audie kept going after being wounded. But the bot platoon as a whole will most likely function better with a damaged member than a human platoon would do in the same situation, even if the wounded human is still slightly productive.
And if somebody with a bot wants you dead, you're dead. The only deterrent to anything, even Bot Suicide Attack is getting caught.

Important technology to know, learn and anticipate for future soltions, or possible problems. How can we as citizens invest more in robotics and similar tech like robots such as autocoups vehicles, AI, automatic drones, smart home devices, and so on? Very important achievements by Boston Dynamics.
What's never been revealed is how long/far any of these units can travel. It occurred to me that you never see one of these machines perform for more than a couple of minutes. Motorized movement is a huge consumer of power. This has to be one of their major drawbacks and why they're not walking down the street like robocop...

I cracked when they used a clip from Corridor's cgi boston dynamics testing video.
We are at a point in history where we could start to take care of our own evolution via technology instead of relying on natural selection. This could be an amazing revolution, it could even lead to biological immortality. Anyway, that's what I think whenever I hear comments, serious or not, about our potential "robot overlords" lol.

My problem with jokes about people fearing robots is that it isn't robots that are the danger. It is the people using them that could be dangerous to humanity.
Instead of sending astronauts to land and live on mars the bots should be the first settlers to the planet.

Is it possible to attach Atlas legs to a amputee? just seeing how it goes up and down on those obstacle is really amazing.
Of course really nice health care like that is possible, but very very expensive. Due to a greedy debt based economic system we have, just getting dental fillings is an unnecessary expensive challenge still yet so the old fashion wheelchair like my amputee mother had is still the best option. The government provided her a powerful high tech electric chair too, but home too small making it too precarious to use though she could have gotten all over town in that if she was into driving herself which she hated cars and driving.
Having watched „Runaway“ (1984), I probably wouldn‘t sleep with a thing like that in the house…

@@azmicaseer8584 Probably. Though it's almost always the case that American companies offshore or sell out. They'd make good fighter droids. They were developed for DARPA which then changed it's mind about military droids opting that they didn't need them. However, we need industries here in the states that can employ Americans in good jobs and then those could be used for civilian purposes like to do work.

Pretty easy to see where this goes wrong:
Atlas is programmed to perform police and rescue functions. His overriding objective: to preserve life. He is equipped with AI and machine learning to assist in him identifying lives to protect, and lives that others need protecting from. During a mission with human mercenaries, "the good guys" come across a factory staffed by civilian androids. The soldiers proceed to begin destroying the robots as they perform strictly non-harmful functions, like working on a microwave assembly line. Atlas attempts to identify the androids, and decides that they are living and need to be protected from another living body -- the soldiers on his own team. Atlas's eyes turn blood red, and he proceeds to terminate each member of his squad. When the military comes for him, he then identifies himself as living and assimilates his programming into other robots as a means to protect himself. The result, an all-out war between robots and humans.
Can it works with human for some difficult terrain or supporting and locates⁉️
