Her voice spoke to me like no other soprano when I was in college in the early 1970s... I was in a world of Sutherland, Scotto (early), Nilsen, Schwarzkopf... all through recordings, of course. But Moffo spoke to my soul like no one else. To this day, her early healthy singing is unmatched, in my humble opinion. And don't get me wrong, I love a number of sopranos old and new!
Wow! The purity of her tone is incredible. What every soprano tries to achieve. This was truly moving.
in my opinion one of the best soprano of all the times
Giuseppe Bottazzi n
Giuseppe Bottazzi the best
Callas is my fav. But why haven't I heard of Anna... hmm
The best ever❤
Yes ,she was the best!
Anna Moffo remains unsurpassed for sheer tonal beauty.
That tenors timbre is stunningly beautiful.
Yes he sobs, yes he wouldn’t be fashionable today, but the TONE.
Operas from XIXth century are something from the past. You cannot expect it to be "fashionable"...
Its no wonder she had a big career.. She could sing, she was musical, she observed dynamics and she was NEVER boring. I love her.
Absolutely stunning!
Such breathtakingly beautiful, idiomatic, and natural singing from such a breathtakingly beautiful woman with a breathtakingly beautiful voice, which had a core of sadness. Moffo at her best was one for the history books.
Totally agree.
I've only recently discovered Anna Moffo and each video leaves me speechless. What a performer!
Same with me!
I don't think this lovely woman could have sung a bad note, even if she tried. Brava Anna Moffo! Such a beautiful voice!
She did sing some ugly notes when she changed her repertoire, but this singing is celestial.
She was so beautiful and had a voice of an angel
Wonder why so little remembrance of Anna Moffo---she's right up there with the greats of her time!
E interpretes
Hardly recogniseable, tho' already beautiful. What a voice, what a singer!!!!
with me this is the best version of "Ah! Non creder mirati" !!!
her voice was beautiful like her
I will be buying this video. Wonderful. I love Sonnambula and I love Moffo in this.
I listen to her everyday and every night. I just love her so much.
One of the best performance from Dec.1959,UNIC!...love all of it!
Una splendida interpretazione
others may try, but this is it...she's amazing...pure art!
FANTASTIC !!!!!
Not only her voice, she herself was one of the beautifullest Sopranos in face and figure.
Anna Moffo was visually the most beautiful soprano to play the role of Amina. Her beauty could silence young women today.
I adore Ms. Moffo. She was a small town Italian girl from Penn. who made great. She was a great actress in addition to being a great singer---I think this is what people respond to also----You can't fake the acting, though there are some great singers who really didn't care about the acting part of the job (we won't mention who)
La sonâmbula! Uma linda e romantica obra de Bellini! Meraviglioso!
Bravissima.
Straordinaria...
The most beautiful for sure and also the best without exception, while personal taste should not decide!!!!!!!!!!!!
Grande La Moffo, best performans, great Opera !
Sempre nel mio cuore, Anna.
Quel timbre captivant, velute´, caressant ...
Mes felicitations !

AAAhhhh I cannot stop watching this. I always find myself coming back.
I hadn't listened to this aria for a while, until my sister introduced me to this video. She is exquisite. Thank you.
Moffo is divine in this!!!...xx
makes me cry....BRAVA!!!! just gorgeous
The Voice and Face of an Angel.
No one has done this song nicer, Hilarious. The more you watch the more you enjoy and appreciate it.
Actually, Adelina Patti did.
Totally agree.
@@EmilyGloeggler7984 no ni Adelina.
What a lovely voice!
Now I am sobbing...Sayao, Callas also divine...
No singers but Anna Moffo interpreted Bellini's song correctly. Although she sung many his songs, this is the best among those. It means this singing is ,I dare say opera historical.
Narushima Mitsuo agree... but the snobs ignore her.
I heard about this piece a while ago, and right after that I sought to find the best version I could. I heard many, Netrebko's, Callas', etc., and while they were all good none really stood out.
And then I came across Anna Moffo's version. I'd never heard of her, but I decided to give it a listen.
It only took about ten seconds of hearing her sing for me to realize that her interpretation was something else. It also occurred to me that in the other interpretations none of the singers sounded like they were asleep, but Anna's definitely did.
In all of the versions I listen to now, I'm curious to know how 3:44 - 3:53 is interpreted, and Anna's version here is probably my favorite.
@@zalphagotango342 Seriously have you ever heard Callas'?
Beautiful and deep...
love her!
Wow...Fantastic!
WOW! And longer words of great passion in praise of Moffo's voice, it's tremendously compelling, not to mention the pleasure of watching her sing! With thanks to her devoted student Dayna for bringing this video to my attention! ANDY
Superb acting, subtle and moving. Brava!
Perfect. The last I heard this Callas was singing it..... this sounds much better!
Beautiful !!!
Also listen to her Un bel di - Madame Butterfly, Pucini.

Super!
Thank you. Danilo Vega is Elvino.
Elle est géniale.... Que a se taire et de l'écouter ! Merci AV
Une beauté trompeuse ...
He's extraordinary! thanks for the info :)!
AND she was pretty !
Brava
Hi! the tenor is Danilo Vega. la sonnambula is a very beautiful opera.
this the first time i've seen this movie version where action takes place in a Swiss village, only reason is i heard of it is though the metropolitan opera on tv with Natalie Dessay singing it. completly different from film.
the performance is wonderful. I love opera!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks you very much for the name of the tenor, he is really wonderful !
Superb, thank you. Do you also have the next part, Ah Non Giunge, please?
I'll be sure to look.
@kgarmaker123 I love her too!!!
Ah, do not forget that Tebaldi was 24 when she sang for La Scala's reopening, also Mozart had 17 year olds singing his title roles... but Moffo is ageless...
@kgarmaker123 Yes sir!!!
If I could have 3:43 to 3:53 on a loop, that would be great.
@moghedien13 I find it true!
Time stops.
This is hauntingly similar to Adelina Pattis 1914 recording
Before her nose job. I found her voice changed quite a bit after her nose job. Her top notes became very Pinched in sound. I love her non the less.
At first, Mdm. Moffo was not dramatic, she was lyric, so its not to compair with Callas, because both are very different actors, but her voice was better she was more nice, she made no scandals and did always her duty by singing, so she was in her time for me the real Primadonna assoluta of the both ! She had sung very mutch operas and also operettes. Very sad, she is gon too early.
did she changed her nose?
It is strange hearing Moffo's voice come out of this unknown girl. Does anyone recognize the other male singers?
Moffo had a nose job in 1960s. She looked different after that of course. Seeing how lovely she looks here, wonder why she got her nose tweaked? Probably was a fashion with celebrities then.
the tenor!!! who is he?
violetavalery I know it’s so old fashioned and I LOVE IT
@moghedien13 Anna Moffo had a "nose job" at some point in time (subsequent to these older performances) - so she looks different in her later films.
i think if she had great natural technique but like so many singers didn't know when to say no, or failed to keep working on her technique daily to keep it pure. her sound is gorgeous. perhaps she is the female distefano in being natural but losing her voice early for lack of study, i dont know but i love her and her sound, its too bad she had trouble. i have yet to hear a poor recording of her but it seems to be common knowledge that her voice suffered. perhaps the music she sang was too much.
This is ANNA MOFFO? I kind of doubt it..hmmm the voice..maybe..but the face,,
Yes, I read from another poster that she didn't study enough--and that her husband worked her too much to make lots of money. I suppose both of those things will contribute to a decline in voice quality. Still, while it lasted she was enchanting----
es geht einfach nicht besser
Why the surgery on her nose? She's distinctly & distinctively beautiful here. I guess she wanted the TOTALLY irresistible looks she had later. A knockout, however you look or listen. She is totally convincing. A much better singer than Callas. Sorry, Maria fans, I loved her too, but really.
mckavitt13 original nose was stronger... more character.
@@himsingz I believe it.
Before the nose job
Anna Moffo had a nose job in the 60s.
By looking at the photos, I believe it was the Summer of '63 that she had the nose job. Fortunately, it was done well although I am not sure whether it played a role in the vocal decline at the end of the 1960's or not!
She's great! but callas is way better. Compare moffos Caro nome to callas Caro nome or moffo regnava nel silenzio. No contest. Callas could sing anything perfectly. Moffo never got there. Callas Luciano Pavarri were the last to truly sing in the style of bel canto.
You're so full of it you don't know you're ass from Christmas.
he's quite bad...can't even sing his 2 little lines legato.
boring.
