About two weeks ago, I was in the midst of playing through Tales of Destiny again, but for some reason, I didn't feel the same way about it as I did back in 1998, so I sold it. It's not a difficult title (I beat it once before), but I felt that the areas late in the game needlessly dragged and the enemy encounters are too frequent. I sold it for $250 on eBay, before their crazy fees. I was surprised to see how expensive it got and how quickly it sold.
I bought Suikoden II when it first came out, but for some reason I sold it. I had Klonoa back in the late 90's and sold it some time later. I bought it again several years ago for only $30.
My most treasured PS1 games are Lunar Silver Star Story Complete and Eternal Blue Complete, the latter of which has the trinkets still sealed. I love both games to death and I will not part with them.

PS1 rpgs always retained their value because the ps1 was backwards compatible and the ps1 is when Jrpgs gained a big following.

That's because you never played JoJo as it was meant to be played - and I know what I'm talking since I luckily own it.
More than what was shown, it has one of the best story modes ever found on a fighter. What the story mode enables is a myriad of play styles (fighters, H-SHMUP, 2D-shooters, etc...),and the presence of locked bonuses like mini games, the full OST partitions, etc... that were the trend back then - especially because of the PocketStation.
Said mini games unlocked by an accumulative point system given at the end of the stage - with max points apoearing by REPLICATING, YES, REPLICATING key actions that happened in the manga.
Amazing, right? Now we can't even find that in current games...

I have most of these games but I started collecting these many years ago. One game I regret selling is Tales of Destiny 2. Some of these games have quadrupled in price just over the last 2-3 years.

My baby sitter was a huge gamer even 15 plus years ago.
I absolutely know for sure she played that rare platformer. Back then it was hard to find cool games. She had a magazine subscription and really early on was on chatrooms 🤣
Edit: WOW I own a game in this list!!! I have clocktower 2!!!

Suikoden II is absolutely amazing in every way. It features betrayal, 108 companions with their own fleshed out storyline, great turn based combat, giant battles, and the best bar none antagonist ever seen in a game. Luca Blight makes Kefka and Sephiroth look like little kittens with how truly evil he is. Unlike Kefka (FFIII) who poisons a town, Blight likes to do his evil work up close and personal...now die pig! ;)
Addendum- Suikoden II is one of the games I held onto after getting it during the PSX's run and man did I dodge a bullet by doing this as its price to own is astronomical right now. Actually I kept most of my games from the 5th generation and why I have built up a huge collection. I was also a huge Saturn player and you better believe I held onto my really rare gems (Guardian Heroes, Burning Rangers, Panzer Dragoon Sega, and Dragon Force).

I still have suikoden 1-5 and Tactics. I also bought Xenogears and Star Ocean Second Story for $1 each at a yard sale a few years ago. Star Ocean surprisingly isn't that expensive to buy but Xeno goes for over $100.

I'm familiar with pretty much all of these games, except the Syphon Filter 911 edition. That one was a surprise.
The first Persona game was amazing. I borrowed it from a friend for a time back around release... I wonder if he still has any of his old collection these days, dude had so many top tier titles on many platforms. Anyway, I played the shit out of it back then and got farther than he did, I think my team was in the high lvl 60s or so with some seriously OP personas, end game content. He was convinced I beat it and pissed off about it, but I never did back then.
Unfortunately these days I only have the P1+2 games for psp as well as the Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth port but not the originals. Even those PSP titles have climbed tremendously in value so I guess cool?
Edit: oh yeah, I forgot that I own Tales of Destiny 1. Another game I originally borrowed from that friend, also spent a ton of time playing and loved it. I forget I have it because it's disc only, no case/manual. That in itself is an arm and a leg if I want it.

I remember having a pirated copy of Tron Bonne that I bought in Malaysia and the gameplay was great. Wish I could've completed it but it was in Japanese. I'm trying to get a PS1 emulator up and going but it hasn't been functioning (the BIN files I've downloaded haven't worked for some reason).
