The reason there's so many New 3DS shovelware is because, unlike the old 3DS, the New 3DS has Unity support, so the barrier of entry to actually make a "functional" game is lower.
If there's a New 3DS game that could run on an old 3DS with proper optimization, then it's probably made in Unity.
I thought a lot of them looked base unity assets
The rules of the store became much more loose as well. Why not make a few extra bucks of the "dying platform", right? Nintendo didn't want Isaac on their platform either and only changed their mind with the New 3DS/2DS systems.
The dev kits are also cheaper than the OG 3DS dev kits while phasing out the old kits. I assume another big reason why indies released on it.

IIRC, the reason why there are so many N3DS "exclusive" games is because Nintendo added Unity support for the N3DS when it released. You could even download the SDK fairly easily from Nintendo themselves back in the day.
Wait does that mean you could theoretically port hollow knight to the new 3ds?
@@mightbeanerd Theoretically yes, if someone had the source code or made a decompilation project. Tbh the easiest way to play on 3DS would be to stream it from a PC, but open source Unity games might work too.
The soccer game looked like it used the default Unity bean-shaped model, so that might explain why.
It worked on the old 3DS too, best if the scope for those is limited to basic games. But I’m not aware of any old 3DS games made in Unity

Co-dev of nekobop here, game was made in like 24 hrs as a joke amongst friends, and an update is on its way to make it a professional looking, actually bearable game

Idk, probably due to it being the end of the 3ds lifespan, lot check is more lenient
The worst part about the eshop closure is that nekobop will be lost
@The Iron Duck update to the game is coming mid January, making it into an actually half decent, polished, fully fledged actually fun game

I really miss the 3DS Era I swear I won’t forget the first game that I played on that handheld, it was Super Mario 3D Land and I still have the old 3DS XL and the New Nintendo 3DS to this day

The guy who made Silver Falls is actually releasing more WiiU and 3DS games this year before the eShop closure, and just released a new 3DS game relatively recently. He is absolutely dedicated to his craft and somewhat insane, though he obviously puts a lot of love into his projects. I recommend supporting him if you like odd, experimental, janky lil games.
I love the 3DS to absolute death. And I own the New 3DS XL, and Minecraft is my only New 3DS game. I’m shocked that it functions, it’s actually kinda impressive

For clarity, the reason these games on "new" 3DS Only is because (I assume) they were made with Unity using the N3DS Packages. Unity supported "new" 3DS as a platform so that's why the game banners are all square to fit within the res of the banners, and why the game main menu smaple beeps like that. It's because they didn't implament their own sample. . I would know since I'm working on porting Baldi's Basics Classic to the "new" 3DS as we speak. But that's not to say that they couldn't run on Old 3DS. Fan made FNaF ports were made using Unity for N3DS and they also run on Old 3DS.

Reading the first half of your comment I was just going to reply with how crazy it is that Nintendo and Unity put so much effort into adding New 3DS support only for nearly every Unity New 3DS game to be total garbage.
Wasn't expecting the second half to be about Baldi's Basics haha! Good luck, I always kind of wanted to get Baldi's Basics on 3DS but things never lined up for that to be possible.

The Switch is too easy to break.
I never broke my 3DS but if my dog sits on my Switch, the screen cracks.
Sucks that the ONLY awesome game from the 3DS that got ported to the Switch (that I know of as of Feb. 2, 2023) is Miitopia. It really sucks. So many great games are on there that I’ll never be able to play unless I use an emulator or pay about $500. The 3DS is a great system (that I heard of).
It feels so nostalgic seeing the 3DS today. It’s still such a great console.

i bought one this year and modded it, BEST decision ever, i love this console more than the switch (i will play the switch more when i get splatoon 3 this christmas though)

Fun fact: The reason most of these are new 3ds only because most game engines for 3ds games now like unity only can be used on new 3ds so its not because it needs the better processor

I’m so glad he talked about Games For Toddlers 2. I played that game recently for my friends, and no I am not joking. Also, it crashed once while I was playing it, and that’s always a great sign.
Too powerful for new Nintendo 3ds, It will not crash in at least 4 console generations.

Silver Falls: 3 Down Stars (3DS) is one in a series that currently mainly exists on 3DS and WiiU, all released this year and probably worth its own video

Back before Definitive Edition came out Xenoblade 3D was seen as a very good alternative to the rare/expensive Wii Version if the player owned a New 3DS and didn't have a Wii U for the Virtual Console version (which was surprisingly likely.) As it's basically identical to the original Wii version of the game just with slightly decreased graphical quality, no Japanese audio option, and with a new gallery mode that tied into Amiibo support (that notably is the only thing that did not return in Definitive Edition.) The only real bugs with that version was that two cutcenes had messed up lighting on the character models but they where both very short cutscenes so it's not even a nitpick.
Nowadays though, there's no reason not to buy the Switch version over the other two versions unless you want to collect a physical copy of the original Wii version. And I'm speaking as someone who has played all versions of the game extensively. Plus now you get the benefit of all three mainline games on one console which is great! Though to this day I hold Xenoblade 3D as the greatest pre-Switch port of a home console game to hand held console ever made.

Pirate Pop Plus is available on Switch and PC.
Infinite Golf has a sequel on Switch.
However, some 3DS games that came out late in the lifecycle have secret New 3DS enhancements, for instance Yoshi's Woolly World, which runs at 60fps as opposed to the old 3DS' locked 30fps. Hyrule Warriors Legends is almost unplayable on old 3DS, and maybe that's why Fire Emblem Warriors is "New 3DS only"

Yeah the new Nintendo 3DS branding for physical games was a weird and short lived product, I only saw one or two on store shelves otherwise I never saw them again

I think they should. The switch/lite are "handheld" but I really don't consider them portable. Imo, in order to be portable, it has to fit in your pocket. No more dual screen or gimmicks, I think we just need a new iteration of the Gameboy.
There isn't really much of a purpose to make one when phones exist and are more profitable than traditional console games

When it comes to the retail-available games, they absolutely need to be on N3DS, with the only exception being Runbow.
But most if not all of the digital games would run perfectly fine on O3DS.
Actually the new 3ds added unity support so they couldn't be on the O3DS even though if the O3DS could use unity it would be strong enough

It's genuinely surreal seeing Unity shovelware running on a 3DS
Honestly the New Nintendo 3DS version of Minecraft is probably my favorite version of the game, simply because it's both portable and has the old nostalgic textures that I grew up with.

It's really good for 3 bucks as well. Probably my favorite indie game below 5 on Switch.

Unity got support for the 3DS, but it's N3DS only.
There’s a puzzle game really similar to Runbow called Hue. It has the same principal of “the color changes and somethings appear while others disappear” But you can control the colors and use it to solve puzzles. :)

Even if it was just a few seconds I'm glad a recognized channel like NB's acknowledged the existence of Harold's Walk/Reborn and Automaton Lung. Those games have the potential to become cult classics and the story behind their development is interesting

the creators of ascent of kings made a series of games i loved when i was younger, when i was like 11 i bought one of their games in the series (candy please) on my 3ds. it was quite a jumpscare seeing their artstyle here again
Rebirth on New 3DS was my first experience with Binding of Isaac. Since then, I got up to Repentance on Steam and Afterbirth+ on both PS4 and Switch. Still tons of fun to play to this day.
2:00 ironically the psvita version of Minecraft was really good I had that back in the day and being able to play battle mini game on a handheld made me feel like a boss in the 2nd grade
Dude, it's surprising to see this guy go through the most of the 3ds eShop but never play gems like Yo-Kai Watch 1, 2, 3 and Blasters. Those are truly solid RPG's and are worth checking out, man.

3:38 Yeah, it's pretty clear Runbow was designed in 720p or 1080p or whatever. Just does not work well with the 3DS's resolution.
Shovel Knight, on the other hand, looks razor-sharp on the 3DS. It's really nice. They handled resolution scaling flawlessly.
6:19 Super Star is playable natively on 3DS via backwards compatibility with the DS, anyway, so, not a big loss
I actually really enjoy the new 3ds physical titles, I have both minecraft, and xenoblade, and their both really fun and fluid! (i play on a new 2ds)

Something else that sets apart the new 3ds from the original is that quite a few of the later games released for 3ds run much better on it. Hyrule Warriors, Yoshi's Wooly World, Captain Toad and the Luigi's Mansion remake come to mind. Though Captain Toad mostly runs great on the og too.

I was so excited to play Mega Man 7 on the go back in the day. I managed to get it again on my 2nd New 2DS XL just in time before the payment thing ended. While I already have the game on Legacy Collection 2 on my Switch, I guess it show just how much I love this game.

Terraria 3DS also is N3DS/O3DS cross compatible. The N3DS has a mode where you can have a bigger “expanded map” but only for N3DS. Kinda nifty for that particular game cause its a fantastic port and only occasionally lag spikes even on the old 3ds.

I still play on my n3ds all the time and the binding of issac is fantastic on it! You can draw on the map which is fun and if you have the liberty cap you can go through a doorway repeatedly until it shows the map and mark down where certain rooms are

That's true.
But also consider the fact that the New 3DS has more RAM.
Some games that make use of said extra RAM would not work on an original 3DS as the RAM would overflow, leading it to a potential crash.

0:26 They work only on the New Nintendo 3DS cuz the SNES already has shoulder buttons. So, the SNES games uses ZL and ZR for the shoulders buttons for that reason.

I have Earthbound on 3DS, Wii U, and SNES Mini. The 3DS version is my favourite to play since I enjoy the portability of it at any time. I know the Switch also has it recently, but I don't trust Joycons or pro controllers and their drifts.
