The Sirens here now after the Cold War are mostly used for two Reasons: To test them regulary to see that they work as they should, so if they're needed they are available And when a World War 2 Bomb is found during Construction Work in a City for example, which btw happens all the time, where i live they're found every other Week, people get evacuated if they live in the Radius of the Bomb when it gets blown up in a Controlled Explosion. Like Joel said, guns kind of ruin horror games. When I see one I think "I can fight and kill whatever horror attacks me" which takes away a lot of the tension, I wish there was a game with a red herring gun...there's a gun and the regular ammo pickups but it does nothing to the monster. Like a security blanket being torn away, use it for puzzle solving or something else instead of directly fighting.
Horror games without any guns at all are even worse. Every encounter boils down to the same actions, running away and hiding. The old RE games do guns in horror perfectly, you should have a way to fight back, but it isn't be a braindead response of "oh, i'll just shoot it", it's more like "can i afford using the ammo? can i get past the zombie without using my resources?". Horror is at it's finest when you're managing your resources, when you actually need to think of what to do in regards to whatever is in front of you.
Proper horror games give you a means to fight back, but make that a genuine struggle to do, through resource management, the player character simply being ineffective with their means of offense, etc. That's just my opinion though. I never cared for the "just run away down the hallway or forest" type of games.
From what I understood, the gun here was also a mere deterrent, like _Isolation's_ flamethrower - Joel expended all of the ammunition given without missing and the loudmouth still shredded him, but he did do a lengthy stagger animation and fled after the first shot. It seems like that game has a somewhat legthy chain of objectives and a way to chase off the lanky mofo would help escape situations where you run yourself into a corner or need to do something before fleeing - at least a number of times it would.
A horror game called "Faith" did the weapon thing just right imo, depending how you decide to use your weapon the game answers with a different ending/interaction

Sirenhead is an original creation by Trevor Henderson. I've followed him on Instagram for probably over a year and I'm happy he's attracting the attention he deserves. His art is phenomenal
i love Trevor Henderson and all his artwork so much, and on one hand its cool that his creations are becoming more popular, because he really is a very talented character artist who should be more recognized but the amount of fan content that doesnt credit him is unsettling. first the fallout mod (i dont remember if the creator credited him later, but Trevor mentioned on instagram at that time that he wasnt aware of the mod neither did he give any permission for people to use his characters), then the allegedly uncredited games and fanart. this is a very grey situation to be honest
once you put something on the internet prepare for major death of the artist. You can't control what people do with your IP anymore. It's just impossible.

All of the charm from the artwork has been stripped away by the people on the internet trying to milk it for popularity. I do agree that a lot of things get memed the same way. But in this case there’s a much larger amount of people contributing to it than other “creepypastas” since it’s mainstream. I wish it just stayed as a cool piece of art and just one game but sadly I don’t think we’ll get that quality back.

I think if the SCP community had gotten to it first it would have been a bit better than what it is now. But it’s best form was just the artwork. And as an SCP fan allow me to say that even if it was made into an SCP it wouldn’t be much to see. Just some “oooo spooky” stuff and that’s it.

For a game, I think this creature works best as a background object the player can't directly interact with. When it starts chasing you around it just gets goofy as hell
Yeah as usual these things boil down to "oooo he's chasing you, run awaaay!" This thing would've been perfect to set only set an eerie atmosphere, even if it never does become an actual threat to the player. It should be in the background while you do other stuff, just wandering around far off in the distance making noise wherever you go, constantly reminding you it's there. It knows you're there too, taunting you, toying with you, ever increasing paranoia driving you into insanity. That's infinitely better than shitty jump scares and ice cream van music what the fuck is this.

Funny thing about the creepy sounding one where it alternates hi and low tones up and down, that's just what the tornado sirens sound like in downtown Chicago. Rather eerie, but not terrifying to me at all.

You can just run them anyway. The idea of smartscreen is that it just keeps a database of stuff people have ran a lot. If a lot of people ran it safely, it's probably safe. If not many people have used it before then you rely completely on the virus scanner.

You should look at the bright side instead: Trevor is getting noticed. If this does becomes the next slenderman, then Trevor gets to reap the benefits from its popularity. I've been a fan of Trevor Henderson for years now and it makes me feel so bad that as soon as his art makes it to the forefront (i.e. markipliers channel) he becomes a laughing stock. Emergency alerts are designed to be unsettling, to sort-of rush people.
The sound is actually a Data burst, similar to dial-up.
There are a lot of data encoding schemes that have unsettling sounds. Spend some time on a WebSDR and you're bound to find a few

Alien Isolation did that right. The pistol did nothing to the Xenomorph and the flamethrower is more of a deterrent than a weapon.

Am i the only one that thinks Sirenhead _isn’t_ ruined by how popular it’s become? Sure there’s some low-quality or crappy stuff out there about it, and people are memeing about it, but the same could be said for pretty much anything of any degree of popularity.
Also, i have a feeling the first “game” was just someone trying to scam people into downloading it. Like how there’s bootleg versions of popular movies-

Haven’t seen much of it and never really cared/knew about it in the first place so eh. Doesn’t seem like it has much substance to it past creepy art tbh (which is what it’s intended to be).
All of the charm from the artwork has been stripped away by the people on the internet trying to milk it for popularity.
I do agree that a lot of things get memed the same way. But in this case there’s a much larger amount of people contributing to it than other “creepypastas” since it’s mainstream.
I wish it just stayed as a cool piece of art and just one game but sadly I don’t think we’ll get that quality back.

For a game, I think this creature works best as a background object the player can't directly interact with. When it starts chasing you around it just gets goofy as hell
Yeah as usual these things boil down to "oooo he's chasing you, run awaaay!"
This thing would've been perfect to set only set an eerie atmosphere, even if it never does become an actual threat to the player. It should be in the background while you do other stuff, just wandering around far off in the distance making noise wherever you go, constantly reminding you it's there. It knows you're there too, taunting you, toying with you, ever increasing paranoia driving you into insanity. That's infinitely better than shitty jump scares and ice cream van music what the fuck is this.
I feel like it's just the lack of quality of the game that makes it goofy. Remember that it's just an indie game and not a AAA horror release

You can just run them anyway. The idea of smartscreen is that it just keeps a database of stuff people have ran a lot. If a lot of people ran it safely, it's probably safe. If not many people have used it before then you rely completely on the virus scanner.

I've been a fan of Trevor Henderson for years now and it makes me feel so bad that as soon as his art makes it to the forefront (i.e. markipliers channel) he becomes a laughing stock. And despite the countless other monsters he's created, now he's just going to be "siren head guy." It's a fuckin shame how the internet just ruins shit.
Oh Markiplier was his signal boost? This all makes sense now. I think Mark's a cool enough guy, but his fanbase is like every shitty 8-15 year old on the platform, no wonder Trevor's getting hammered with garbage.

The creator of Siren Head, Trevor Henderson, has had little to no control over how Siren Head's popularity has blown up online. A lot of people have been treating the character as if it were public domain and using it for both free and paid content without consulting or getting permission from Trevor.
- Siren Head is not an SCP; Trevor has stated many times that it is not part of the SCP canon despite many people trying to incorporate it against his wishes. Luckily the wiki managers have been good about respecting him on this.
- Siren Head is not free to use just because it's popular on the internet. A lot of content being put out is essentially swapping out Slenderman for Siren Head to capitalize on the sudden popularity. It's important to remember that this is one regular person's IP and so far I don't think he's seeing any compensation from people who are making money off games or videos on his creation.
- Trevor is a super sweet person and if you like Siren Head you should support his work!
