  • CLEETHORPES was voted the eighth WORST seaside town in the UK. It is a seaside holiday town near Grimsby on the East Coast of England, with a long beach, pier, amusements and lots more.
Also watch Skegness 👉🏻 • SKEGNESS | The WORST s...
We visit Cleethorpes for a walk along the beach and seafront to see what you think of this day trip destination and if Which magazine was right to vote it the eighth worst seaside in the UK!
Have a watch of this walk and let me know what you think. Is this really one of the worst seasides in the UK? Or do you think it has more to offer, nice people, great beach, nice fish and chips, a pier, a lollypop road train, good pubs, good cafes and restaurants, great hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs and more?
You'll find Cleethorpes on the Humber estuary in North East Lincolnshire. It's a fairly small seaside town compared to some of the other seaside walks I've filmed but I think there's still plenty to see and do for a day at the beach.
Build sandcastles, paddle in the sea, take a walk on the pier to Papa's fish and chips restaurant, nip into the seafront cafe for some ice cream or a cup of tea, pop into the amusement arcades and maybe have a game of bingo, or have a browse around Cleethorpes Market.
Cleethorpes train station here is great in that it will take you on your train journey to arrive right at the beach and seafront!
Is this the worst seaside in England? I'll let you decide! Comment below and let me know what you think!

Never been to Cleethorpes but it looks lovely. It has the traditional charm of an English seaside town, ideal for a nice family holiday or a quiet break. Looks like it has enough to keep the young uns busy and a place where happy memories are made. 8/10 👍

I've seen a few videos where people walk along the front at Cleethorpes and they tend to stick to the prom between Wonderland and the leasure centre (this is the major area of beach). If you go further down you then come to the boating lake with other visitor attractions. Walking further down you pass the closed Pleasure Island theme park, but if you persevere you can then walk through the Humberston fitties a collection of weird and idiosincratic holiday villas.

While living ten years in England we went to Cleethorpes several times a year. The train was a cheap ride from Meadowhall. It was awesome that it would take you right there in the main area. We would walk down to the Leisure Centre, catch the small lightweight railway train. Always had to stop at the smallest pub on the Planet, The Signal Box Inn. After leaving the train, we would get on the miniature street train, "The Lollipop Express," back. Fun days! I love any seaside, along with this one, a TEN for me :)

This video did not do it justice. The best part further along was unshown, Including the boating lake and the facilities, like the leisure centre, bowling alley, cinema, restaurants mini railway and sand dunes and great views of the coast. Gardens also omitted and the yacht club etc etc. The Blue flag beach also is a fair distance longer than was shown. Much prefer Cleethorpes to Skegness and Mablethorpe.

Yes can't complain with a 10 screen cinema, bowling alley, leisure centre as you have already said, yacht club area ,Thorpe park and fitties love it that end but as a resident I love it all

  • @mariner299

As I live in the area I can tell you that Cleethorpes is a great place for all if you know we're abouts to go. To the left of the pier up to the big weel is were the amusement arcades are and is the best place to go for a paddle in the sea. Not so muddy here. You can also hire paddle boards from the "Ebb & Flow" shop when the tide is right. There is a lack of toilets but there are toilets in one of the big arcades near here. But you have to pay to get in. Not sure how much 20/ 50p I think. If you want to see a different side of Cleethorpes take the Lollipop express to Cleethorpes leisure centre. Walk a little further and you will find a nice big paddling pool for kids ( Free). A little further on a sand pit for the kids.
You can take the light railway to the boating lake or carry on to the end of the line . Here you will find a big sandy bay, it's not comersialised like the North End of the resort. At night there are lots of pubs in Cleethorpes and restaurants. I give it 9 out of 10 looses a point lack of toilets.

      @malcolmhouston7932 Před rokem +1

There are Public Toilets on the Street opposite the pier entrance 50/60 yards away and of course the Railway Station. Most resorts don't appear to have sufficient Public Toilets but would agree the score. Much cleaner than it was 65 years ago when I first visited. Rediscovered just after the Covid restrictions eased.

I give it a 10 because I can't believe people voted it the worst. It's lovely and gentle and has a little bit of everything for everyone. Crazy golf, beach, pier, castle, waterfall and a lovely afternoon's worth of walking, eating, and relaxing, why not. I would absolutely visit.

Well Cleethorpes gets a 9 from me. It's our go to for a day at the coast. Although some things have closed there is much more to see further on. Papas is great. It used to be a theatre, and we have seen Charlie Williams, Tony Christie, and took the youngsters to see Animal Kwackers there. The old pleasure Beach used to be a zoo and we saw one of the horses that took the part of Black Beauty there. Gosh must have been going to Cleethorpes over many many years. Much better than Skeg. Never feel safe there. Another great video Neil. Keep walking. 👍👍

What 's wrong with the place ? A traditional British Seaside town , hundreds of them around the coastline of England ,it's clean , great railway station ,the moaning minnies will bellly ache about anything no matter where they are . These Seaside towns have got a good reputation for value for money ,i.e , you don't get stitched up ,great for Families that don't possess deep pockets ,also long live these resorts because when they are gone they will be gone forever .10 /10 for me. [I I like the cover the pavement along by the amusements in the event of our famous weather ]

It had attractions like roller coasters, bumper carts and a haunted ride. Some gift shops along with a tiny mushroom village kids could run around. They also had a arcade area and a water slide.
I think is just a bar now though

My favourite beach in England. Lived here during covid and was the best time in my whole life. People are lovely, weather is always nice in the summer. Lovely traditional beach. Been going here since I was 5 years old and it’s my favourite for crystal, shells and pebble foraging😅 keep going further down the promenade and you find a side of the beach which mostly locals use as the main gets filled with tourists. Worth the visit if you haven’t been!

Cleethorpes is a great seaside town. Spent many years of my youth back in the 80s / 90s there. Could probably walk around most of the town with my eyes shut. 🙈😁
Back in the day we used to stay in the Parkinson’s holiday rentals (lovely family) on the seafront and enjoy a fantastic milkshake in the old cafe, as well as buying the odd model car or 2 from Mr Parkindon and his wife. #happytimes
It’s great to see how the council have put money into the town as it’s certainly grown from what it used to be. From the big wheel onwards was looking a bit bleak at one point, so it’s great to see how that’s changed.
    10/10 from me 👍🏻😁

Over the past 40 something years I’ve been to cleethorpes lots of times , it is what it is , I wouldn’t say it’s the worst , decent fish and chips and amusements , it’s lacking decent gift shops and shops in general, and it’s a shame the pier is no longer a pier - the station is cute and love the fact it literally brings you straight to the beach - I’d rate Cleethorpes 6 out of 10

As east coast seaside resorts go, it's as good as any. A typical seaside resort with plenty of fresh air, sand and sometimes even sun! If you kept going, you would have gone passed the Leisure Centre, (where there was once a bathing pool), and along the side of the boating lake where there's a miniature railway that once took you as far as where Pleasure Island used to be. Keep going and you get to the Humberston Fitties, which consists of a large community of holiday camper vans, mostly permanent. Score-wise, I'd give it a solid 7 out of 10.

From this I can't see why it was voted one of the worst, that might depend on what it is like at night though. It just looks the typical seaside town. All the usual amusements, fast food/junk food. etc. The only difference from this and every other average seaside town is the beach station. The beach looks OK, plenty of it for people to spread out on. From what I could see everywhere looked clean and no litter. There isn't anything special or unique about it to entice people but nothing obvious to put them off either. Would I visit? If I was in the area (not an area I am familiar with) possibly. It is so average my first thought was to give it an average score of 5/10 but that feels mean so maybe 6 or even 7. Can I settle on 6.5?

I did a Cleethorpes drone video for my channel on a day trip last year. (Just re-cut it to be shorter and better as I've learned more) Clean Cleethorpes doesn't really deserve to be among the worst.
I suppose it depends on what that survey's criteria is. Different people want various things.
Unlikely I would stay for a week-long holiday here, but I'd rate a solid 7 for a day out ticking the boxes of British seaside town, sandy beach, rock and chips, ice cream, crazy golf, arcades.

Best to check tide times first . It usually stops in around 2.5 hrs either side of high water . I don't go to cleethorpes unless tide is in .

We went for the day at about the time of your video, I'll never go again. I suffer from IBS and when we got there the main male toilets were closed . And none of the amusements or cafes had toilets the public can use.

0 out of 10 for Transpennine express they have ruined Cleethorpes this season.

Worst 10 UK seaside towns and villages are:
Skegness, Lincolnshire - 48 per cent
    Clacton-on-Sea, Essex - 48 per cent
    Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset - 49 per cent
Bangor, County Down - 49 per cent
Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire - 54 per cent
Bognor Regis, West Sussex - 54 per cent
Great Yarmouth, Norfolk - 55 per cent
Colwyn Bay, Conwy - 55 per cent
    Southend-on-Sea, Essex - 56 per cent

If I were a kid, I would love it there. As an adult there are too many people and dogs. There are probably a lot of dog poos and too many seagulls to get pooped on. I don’t like crowds. It also doesn’t seem to have a lot to offer for a long strip. I give it 6/10
