If you are Canadian or Mexican and want to work in the United States one of the first Visa choices that you should look at is a TN Visa. TN stands for Trade National Visa and the TN Visa was established as part of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) between Canada, United States and Mexico. The Agreement was renegotiated in 2019 but the immigration aspects did not change.
The Visa is a great option as it does not require company sponsorship. In order to be eligible for this Visa, you must be one of the professions listed under the NAFTA agreement and that you must have a job offer from a company.
One advantage of the TN Visa is the speed at which it can be obtained. Also, the Visa is unique in that it does not require sponsorship or a formal petition. For Canadians the visa can be obtained at the border. Also, there is no Cap for TN visas.

I got a job at washu in st louis and I signed the offer letter on 25th October and I am still waiting on when I could travel to states on TN. It is now December, the university tells me that there is only one person for the whole medical school that's is why it will take time. I am wondering how much time. I have my offer letter and education qualifications so why can't I go to the airport and get it done. What does then employer need to do that is taking so long on this. I am getting a bit anxious cause it's been 2 months. I am assuming it should be resolved in January. The HR Visa manager of the university replies slowly and not giving me details about the overall process. Can you give me more insight how long it actually took you for example 1 month since
I have national and state licenses to practice respiratory therapy. I am applying for TN under Scientific technologist (ST). Criteria for ST includes:
1. Proof of Canadian Citizenship)
2. Two year associate degree in Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy
3. Work under direct supervision of medical director
4. Theoretical knowledge in biology, chemistry and physics as they apply to respiratory therapy.
5. Not a construction type of employment.
6. Job offer from US employer.
How difficult is it to obtain a TN Visa in this category? It does not seem as straightforward as other TN Visas.

There are about 14 specific ports of entry that are "recommended" where CBP have trained staff to process TN applications. Going to another port of entry, can be OK providing you are very confident that a lack of training would not affect your chances.
Going to other than the 14 POE shows you did not read their recommendations.
TN visas are very straight forward visas that are easy to adjudicate. We have processed hundreds of them at multiple ports and interestingly enough some of the ports on that list have been problematic. One of the most popular ports told a client that there was a specific salary requirement for a TN. (which is not true). On the other side, we have had very weak TN cases go to Ports that were not as familiar with TN visas and approve them. This is what our comments are based on.
On a TD visa: am I able to work for a Canadian company, remotely, which has no subsidiaries or customers in the United States, earning Canadian salary to a Canadian bank account? Are these conditions okay under the TD visa? (Spouse on the TN1)
If you are on US soil, you need a visa to work unless you are on a short temporary visit

Hi I am Canadian and have bachelor of civil engineering (4-year program) from Pakistan and a master of civil engineering (2-year program ) from Japan.
