Something that was left out of this movie that is important to keep in mind for Catching Fire: Peeta lost his leg as a result of his injuries in the Games. Throughout the next movie, remember that he is a recent amputee. When he is clumsy or slower or when people are worried about him - that’s why! They had to keep those attributes for him because of plot reasons but movie watchers often don’t understand why.

@@TricameralPerspective some districts are better off but richer all districts produce something some produce food so they can eat more. in the books some districts made schools and train for the games and have people volunteer

Ive seen a lot of reactors talk about the shaky camera 😭
I didn't even noticed it moved that much when i first watched this movie. Glad you kept going tho, there's no shaky camera in the next movies.
If im not wrong, that strategy was used for keeping the movie R13:) yk keeping the blood and d-word kids at the minimum.
Can't wait for you to watch the next one! ❤

The electrified fence in the beginning was a masterfully bit of subtle world building. It gives a hint that the Capitol’s power is all based on illusion and fear. The electric fence was likely never intended to fully work, it was meant for people’s belief and fear that it worked to keep them caged in their zone.

It was mainly due to the fact district 12 was left alone by the capitol cos their district trade had become so unimportant. Their technological advances probably led to coal being less and less desired. Because of this, district 12s security and overall budget was a lot less than other districts. When Rue talks to Katniss about district 11, Katniss actually feels grateful about being in 12, cos there is very little capitol interference. As long as they meet their quotas, the capitol don’t care about them. Whereas with district 11, they produce a lot of the food going to the capitol. So security is much stricter. The fence in district 12 was rarely turned on cos the district barely had electric

The dream sequence shows her dads death in the mines followed by her mam withdrawing from everything including self care and care for her kids due to the intense greif. That leads to them almost starving to death until Peta throws her the bread. The warmth of the bread kept her going till she got home and they feasted on the bread and she foraged in the woods for the first time for things to go with it the next day. She saw a dandelion (or daffodil) symbolising the start of spring, so she now associates them with Peta. Doesn't show it all in the movie but thats the gist

In case you were confused about what Katniss and Peeta were supposed to be when they were riding into the tribute parade, they’re lumps of coal that ‘caught fire’. District 12 deals with coal production, so while abnormal to tradition, the spirit of the display was still true to District 12.

Quick tip the name of the first movie is The Hunger Games (second movie is Catching Fire) and since is your first time watching it will help with views if you put that in the title.

I agree with the comment above. When I saw catching fire, I went to your page to look for your review of the first one. I almost didn’t watch because I thought you skipped the first one 😅 and was like he’s gonna be so lost. Then I watched first part and saw it was the first one.
Hang with this series. You’re insight is actually very spot on. Not many pick up on the disparities even between districts. So please keep with these movies. The rest are great! And the director is different for the last three. 😊

The books were published by Scholastic Books to teach young students about politics and war. Shaky cam was used to keep the movie PG for younger viewers. So your criticism is invalid based on your own discussion.

Wasting time to tell me all the other movies you've seen the actors in and then complaining about the use of a handheld camera in action scenes is a no for me. I quit about a third of the way through your reaction.

    • @TricameralPerspective
      @TricameralPerspective  Před 9 měsíci +2

fair enough. I still don't like handheld action scenes. I consider them the easy way out when filming action. It takes a much more skilled and confident director to make action scenes engaging and not use shaky cam. Thanks for watching though.

@@TricameralPerspective I agree it's a matter of taste and opinion, but I wouldn't want to take a useful tool out of the hands of a director by categorizing its use as "lazy". I wouldn't want to see it used where it wouldn't be appropriate - for example, passionate love scenes or panoramic establishing shots. But for shooting scenes of 12-year-olds being brutally dismembered by machetes and making me feel like I'm an unwilling part of that action, I find it quite compelling. It's not the goal of the director to carefully show you the details of how an expert swordsman can most effectively behead a child; the goal is to create a series of images that instantly conveys the horror of the Games.
I understand that people can have different opinions on this topic, but you dismissed the movie on this minor point, saying it was a "no" for you. That's what prompted me to comment.
Best wishes on your reaction channel.

@@crairdin To you it was minor, to me it was not. I sat down to edit this after watching it and I found it even more distasteful because it was used excessively. However, that does not mean I dismissed the entire film(that would be ridiculous). I still enjoyed it for the most part. I am also in no way advocating that it be removed entirely as a filming technique, just that it should be used appropriately and sparingly.

@@crairdinto be fair, it’s a pretty common take that Gary Ross overused the use of the handheld camera. Had he executed it well, it would be fine - but the shaky cam didn’t add to the movie overall, it hindered it. Look at the reaping scene and the “I volunteer as tribute” bit. There’s a literal jump cut right there cos someone messed up and they didn’t get the right take, so they mashed 3 takes together and it looks weird af.

@@davidfairweather3301 Fair enough, but I've watched these movies multiple times prior to watching any reactions on CZcams, and never noticed the handheld camera until watching this and two other reactors. Since the time this discussion got started I've watched a dozen other reactors and nobody else has mentioned it. It's just a filming technique and it works well in the scenes where it's used in THG. But - it's all a matter of opinion, and that's what we're here to see.
