Wait. I need to know what you did about the ‘arms’ crossing over the pool edge. Our deck comes up under the pool railing.
7:14 P.M. Central. I have the exact steps. So is a 100lbs enough?
I had 2 plastic water containers that were filled with sand, they were like1. 5' x 1.5 'x 1.5'and a large fuel container full of sand . I Know it all weighed at least a 125 lbs. It still didn't seem to be enough weight. It's possible they could have a little air in them , but they were sealed. I was wondering if 100lbs was enough?
@@kennethfowler8712 The amount I used in the video works great. I still have it screwed to my deck, the weight just keep them down.
I just bought those same steps, but didn't realize I needed to weight them down. My old steps just filled with water to hold them in place. I didn't like the sand bag idea so I was excited to see your video. This is the perfect way to hold these steps in place and I'm building them now. Thank you for sharing this ingenious idea!
Glad I could help!
FINALLY..! I looked all summer last year (2022) for a way to weight my steps. Opening my pool this week and just by luck found your video ! Subscribing and following.. great idea !
Thanks for subscribing Chris
FANTASTIC and perfect idea!!!!! Looking at getting these steps for our new pool this season. Thank you!!!
You are so welcome!
Have the same Dolphin...... It's phenomenal
Agree thanks for watching
Great idea I had a problem with my steps I put sand bags under my steps what a mistake one of the bags has a leak now sand is all in the water I'm gonna try this idea looks great and don't have to worry about any leakage
I have used them for two years so far and still good. Thanks for watching
Your pool is so clean!
When I do cement projects {crafts} I have more cement on me then the project.
The end was hilarious!
My boys and there friends are sure enjoying the pool this summer, it makes it all worth it. Hope everything is going good for you
You're definitely right.., the Better of Build back Better hasn't arrived
Crazy and I’m hearing it’s going to get worse
We’re still in the demolition phase.
We use the same type of pool vac. Works wonders. Great video. def going to consider doing this as well.
Worked much better than the sand bags thanks for watching
good idea, tired of buying sand and using those sand plastic tubs which wear out every couple of years
Thanks for watching
Great video. Im in the process of doing the same thing. great idea about using drainage pipe instead of pvc. Keep them coming.
Thanks
Hi Mr.jim getting that time again to set up the pool and maintain thank for your helpful videos hi from texas again home on elon musk for now?🚀🛸😆😇
Thanks for watching me Alexander I would love to visit Texas one of these days.
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Your welcome
Filling the tubes with pea gravel is cleaner and faster. No screwing around mixing concrete.
I guess that would work. Thanks for the tip
Seems like filling them with pool sand could be a good option too?
Hi Jim...nice video...tks for sharing the info!
You bet, thanks for watching
Hi - your pool videos are great. We are setting our steps up tonight. The directions for the steps say to fill it with sand. I'm hearing/reading all sorts of things about how not to use sand because of algae... what are your thoughts on this? Also, what is the name of the tubing you filled with cement? I would like to hunt some down. Also, how did you attach the mat to the bottom of the steps? Staples? Twist ties? Thanks :) Watching from Western Colorado.
I think this is what I used. www.lowes.com/pd/ADS-4-in-x-10-ft-Corrugated-Solid-Pipe/3221927 I attached the mat with good zip ties
@@DIYJIM thx
Excellent idea. How do you remove them at the end of the season?
Pick my steps up and have one of my boys remove the weights, or jump in and freeze for 5 min lol
How did you attach the liner pad to the steps? Glue? Screws? Any recommendations?
Zip ties
What is the best way to protect the pool liner from the ladder sitting in the pool
I put a thin blue mat I bought at the pool store under mine with zip ties. czcams.com/video/ZK8cMVQbO4g/video.html
I had my deck built as yours is... The plastic top border of pool is above the deck. What's the point of those 2 flimsy arms at to top step? Are they supposed to go on the wood deck itself??
Yes thanks for watching my videos
How did you fasten your mat to your stairs.
I think I showed it in this video. Zip ties czcams.com/video/ZK8cMVQbO4g/video.html
Do uou recommend the pool mat for the ladder?
I think it helps to save your liner.
Great video! Why did you switch over to these from the original sand in the bags? Did you end up with issues/leakage?
My original sand bag’s started leaking.
@@DIYJIM That's what I figured. I'm about to put my stairs in and didn't want to just put the bags in. They all break open eventually. was going to use two plastic gas cans, but they are a little bit big for the job. This PVC tube idea is pretty perfect. It's pretty fantastic splitting up that weight in easier to manage pieces, rather than two 50lb masses to put into the pool. Thanks for posting your step by step!
@@KipCount glad I could help. Have a good summer
How do you attach the blue mat to the bottom of the stairs?
Watch this video czcams.com/video/ZK8cMVQbO4g/video.html. Hope this helps
buy a rubber mat at the home improvement store. It doesnt float up.
Lol Just can't trust kids now days. Thanks for the great idea for ladder weight. We are getting a pool installed this month and we actually have the same ladder.
Glad I could help thanks for watching
How do you stop the algae behind the steps???
Sorry I don’t have a good answer for that I have never had that problem.
I remember when people here used the cheap Kmart weight plates which were concrete filled plastic to do this.
I guess that would work also if you can find some.
Wish I could get my hands on some of those!
@@KipCount Brake rotors work as makeshift weight plates also. Just have to find shops who throw them out.
Quick question: the cyanuric acid level in my 24’ above ground pool is showing 135ppm, which is obviously waaaaay too high. It’s supposed to be between 30-50ppm, but I think the company that opened it this year put too much stabilizer in for some reason. I’m told the only way to fix that is by draining the pool and diluting with fresh water, which isn’t really an option because my town has water restrictions in place. One pool company guy said many people just ignore high cyanuric acid levels and swim in it as is, but I read that too high a level can “lock” the chlorine and therefore the bacteria in the water isn’t able to be treated. Do you have any experience with this issue and any tips, because I’m ready to just through the cover back on and skip the pool this year, which is a shame.
Sorry I have never had that problem.
Could have used play sand.
Maybe not sure if play sand would weigh the same, plus I know the concrete will not leak out. Thanks for watching
How did you attach your pad to your ladder?
zip ties, thanks for watching
