Have you done any alterations this season?
Yes‼️on a brides maids side zipper it was to small.
I chose to keep the zipper in place, used small loops , inter flap with thin satin ribbon client happy because I saved her some 💵 and I was happy as well that I didn't have to worry about having to deal Satin creating runs "all done by hand"👍
Hello. Do you still manage your facebook group? I just joined but it looks like mostly people self-advertising. Thanks.
Oh. I also opened up my daughter’s cheer letter jacket to sew down her iron on patch that came loose after washing and would not stay down with glue. I did okay for most of it with a ladder stitch closure until I came closer to the top. It’s not something you would know unless you’re looking but I want to get better at hiding the work and making my finishes the best they can be.
Also, I realize the video is a year old. Your CZcams shorts brought me here.
Thank you so much for this video. I'm doing my daughter's prom dress for the first time. It's a mermaid and she is super slim. Pray for me ya'll.
You got this 💪🏾💪🏾👌🏾👌🏾❤️❤️❤️
How'd it go?
Hi… you will do great things because you are trying!! Nothing was ever accomplished by saying, “Someday I’m gonna try that… lol. If you’re a little hesitant hit a secondhand shop. Look for a top, dress, skirt… what ever is closest to the zipper, take-in, etc. that you need to accomplish. You’ve seen Monde’s projects. She chk’s it out… for the best possible solution, with the least invasive approach. Good luck… you can do this!!
And for Monde… look at the sewers that you inspire!! Love your channel!!❤
My high school had a fashion/sewing class, and I made my own prom dress as my final assignment! It was a two piece, corset top with a mermaid style skirt!!! I had the best time!!!
It’s a bummer that high schools are getting rid of those classes. I loved sewing class, I didn’t like cooking class, so I always took a sewing class, and I still don’t like to cook. 😂
i do this kind of work all the time....never thought to record it and post it. hahaha. this was beautiful. it's the Amazon monstrosities that have been keeping me in business.
You work miracles with the dresses you alter. But, seriously ! You remake these dresses many times. You have special talent. Not just making dresses fit….but, making dreams come true. You are the fairy Godmother for many lucky ladies .
Kudos to you for the alterations projects that you tackle. Figuring out how to take a garment apart and put it back together again is harder than most people understand. I think you work magic!
Finally someone purchased the correct size! Looks fabulous
PLUS the figure to pull it off!!
this is a little thing but yhank you for not sticking obnoxious music over your sewing! just.. thank you!
I really appreciated the long format. You are incredibly talented. If anything- I'd love to hear more about whqt you are doing. My guess is you don't even think about it- you just do- but as someone that can't do- additional commentary would be most appreciated!
You make it seem simple but I know it isn’t. Can’t wait to see your next project!
I couldn't see my way out of a wet paper bag, but I love watching your videos! I always look at both this type, and the before-and-after type. Can't wait for your next one!
I'm sure you have probably talked about it, but have you done a video on how and where you learned to sew like this? I'd be thrilled to watch.
Me too!
Ice work!
Loved that video that was amazing please do more
This was such a great video! Please do more educational content too!
I love watching your videos because you are so amazing in what you do. I hate alterations and would rather make something from scratch. However, I worked in the costume dept. of a ballet company and all I did was alterations.. Hooks and bars are the bane of my existence.😂
I'm glad that I found you,Monde!I like your videos and I'm learning from you!Thank you very much!
I remember being so scared of sewing zippers, in school. I can’t remember what our teacher said about zippers, but it instantly hit me…and I thought to myself, I will never be able to sew a zipper. 😂
I learned to sew in zippers by hand. It's very easy.
@@pamogirl5424 I'm a beginner. I sew zippers by hand,it's indeed really easy.
(With the machine, I still can't sew very straight, so I prefer not to try the zippers yet. x) )
I'm trying to learn how to do alterations to offer that service in my area, so I appreciate you very much! Your voice is very soothing to listen to too lol :)
How wonderful of you to share your great knowledge like this. Not many will do that anymore. Thanks for sharing with us.
i'm 2 years late to this video and don't even plan on doing any dress alterations myself, this is just SOOTHING content lol! i'd love if you tried a timelapse + voiceover video again, watching you work and hearing the explanations is very relaxing!
Hi me again! Great point to study the area that you are working on… hence, for it to look like the original design when you are done. If it looks complicated or something you’ve not seen before take pics as you go. They can be very helpful.
I don't see, but I do find it interesting seeing when a small change can make a dress fit nicer and thus look so much nicer.
You are an artist. Love your videos! Have learned so much watching you .
My favorite id getting into the garment , fixing it, and getting out clean. No one knows I been there
I love your work. I also do a lot of alterations and when I get stuck I check your videos.
I am in awe of your work. You are a genius and an artist. I can’t sew on a button, but I’m fascinated by your work. Amazing!
Wow, look at that tiny waist on her. Wish I had a figure like that! Beautiful work!
Thank you for sharing, from Philadelphia.
Nice work. I am currently altering a pair of men's slacks.
a amazing talent for one so young!
Lovely material
Excellent work and teaching! 🙏🏻💙
I'd like to see more of the zipper finishing. ❤
Gorgeous result!
I love your videos! You are a master seamstress!
I just found your page and thank you for your instruction .
Watching from South Africa 🇿🇦
Started sewing last year November while holding my 9 to 5.
You videos make me think eeeeverything is possible. Love them
This was watching myself do my alterations! I haven’t ladder stitches the front of a dress before. I will be adding that! On the straps, I usually move them more to the back so the straps don’t slide off. Just saying. I love your videos!!!!
Nice job!! Looks great!
You do really good work.
Very nice educational video. Thank you!
You are brilliant!
Not me finding out you have a CZcams. What a great way to start my day. 😊
😁😁😁It's a mix of things here
@@MondesThreads I like that. I was looking at your shorts.
Nice work!❤
Love this liked and subscribing
Great information and great video!
Glad it helped
Great job.
New learner here. Thank you! Maybe I’ll explore alterations
Yess You can definitely learn how to sew through alterations. Practice on clothing you already have but don't use
@@MondesThreads Hi! You beat me to the punch with your advice about practicing your skills first on your own clothes before doing anything to others . If you take on something that's out of your skill level, you'll find your self up the creek! Clients won't take kindly to sewing catastrophes! In short, hone your skills first!
Love your voice
Thank you so much for sharing your work. It is totally fascinating. Where did you learn to sew?
I am new to your channel and I love it! Where/how did you learn to do what you do?
Thanks for all the great information! I’m getting back into doing a lot of alterations after a career at the post office. If I can ask, how do you determine your pricing? Hourly rate or by the specific project? I had to totally remake a dress for someone ( pleated crossover bodice, raise the waist, hem the tulip bottom with multiple layers etc.) The customer kept adding to the work to be done. I was at a loss at what to charge her so I just made up a number!?!??? 😮 Thanks!!!
You are so cute !!
Drop the skin routine!!!
I just have to ask you how do you get paid? One of sewists' biggest problems is getting paid a fair rate for their work. It seems that everyone today want couture level sewing at Walmart clearance prices!!!
Yes! I’m wondering the exact same thing!!
Obviously these dresses are TERRIBLE dupes of intricate garments that are probably very expensive from the actual designer.
Are these clients paying more than they would have for the original dress by going cheap with the dupe AND then having to get it altered?? If they didn’t want to pay what the actual garment costs from the jump, are they also trying to ‘save’ when getting it fixed?!?
Thank you for the video, for this dress how much did you charge her?
I can see going to prom inspection in that beautiful dress and having one of the sisters send me home for a more "modest" dress. They'd come back with the jacket or whatever that they had planned to wear anyway, but wanted to give the nuns apoplexy before they did. Of course, this was many, many moons ago.
Do u record ur consults, SOME peeps have problems when it come to payments. Or what was agreed with the outfit? My sister (RIP). Had to end up doing this.
Too many people have problems when it comes time to pay up!! I've been sewing for 40 years and I keep it a closely guarded secret to avoid being aggravated by the "gimmepigs" of society!!!!
❤❤❤❤❤
Yes that is how you would do the zipper casing if you want to have the invisible zipper
❤
I am asking to learn.. why not leave the zipper and dart one inch on each side like? Again I am a beginner but would that work? Or what about removing and inch using the seams under the arms.
Is there a way to make it more fitted without cutting the zipper and resewing?
Hi, I asking if you teach to do alterations??
Are mermaid style dresses difficult to walk in if the fabric doesnt stretch?
New to sewing any advice please x
Keep practicing the basics👌🏾
Keep your skill a secret! If you don't you'll soon find out when everyone and their momma is on you to alter or sew things for nothing!!! Trust me, been there, and done that!!
How has it been going? My advice is to do projects that excite you, because you'll be more motivated to keep working on them when they get hard. Also, I found that I naturally started with easier projects and worked up to harder projects as my skills grew.
@scorpioninblue I love sewing for other people! If it's a small/ reasonable project for a friend, I'll sew it for free. If it's a large project or for someone I don't really know (often requested by someone who doesn't know how long sewing can take), I will politely decline, or give an estimate of how much I would charge for my labour.
Hi! You have my highest admiration for sharing your skills with others.......most sewists don't like sewing for others or doing alterartions. The majority of non-sewing people have no sense of the time and patience involved in eiher creating a well made garment or skillfully altering one to a clients wishes. They are always looking for the cheapest way out with no regard for paying a fair rate to the sewist/dressmaker. Its just a matter of time when word gets out....... that a novice sewist will encounter the 'gimmepigs' who will try and take advantage! All I'm saying is beware who you reveal your skills too!!......@@AnnAnonyme
Unfortunately, trying to take it in at the center back will screw with the hang of the skirt. Should be taken in at the side seams.
Sometimes yes, but as you can see it didn't in this instance. Taking the taper all the way down helps.
Personally, I agree with you and would've taken in the sides, but I will try almost *anything* to avoid resetting a zipper.
@@daisukidatotoro Yeah, she did taper more, but then you can see where it's pulling and wrinkling at the waist. That's just it, if you took in at the side seams you wouldn't NEED to reset the zipper! And, it would fit better at the waist. But then again does such a cheap, wear only once dress deserve the proper treatment?
@@kristinedoty7876Probably not, but the unsuspecting client does 😊
@@kristinedoty7876 I'm curious. Have you ever done and posted any of your work and processes on similar dresses? 🤔 If so, please share. I would love to see what you mean and how much of a difference doing things your way would make.
@@kristinedoty7876 Would love to see how you would alter a similar dress. Please record and share.😊
The alteration looks a little uneven at the top by the zipper!
Why you don't take the 2 inches from the sides instead of the zipper? I think it is easier
When I’ve tried to take dresses (or any top really) at the sides, it alters the armscye (armhole) which can mean even more changes.
@@robinborsos2368 thank you.
It makes sense now
I have had somebody that I have sewn a dress for and she purposely gave me the wrong measurements so that her sister that does alterations could have the fabric now that's a waste of my resources and it was wrong of them to do
Why did you take up from the back, I would take up from the sides.
I love your videos but shouldn’t you use a thimble? It helps you to hand sew much more quickly and saves your fingers. If you’re charging a flat rate, it’s even more important to sew fast by using a thimble.
There have only been a couple times in life where I’ve ever thought “I wish I had a thimble.” This dress looks like a very light fabric and a thimble wouldn’t be necessary with a fabric like this. It’s a personal preference for sure, but if I’m trying to keep a thimble on when I don’t need it, I spend more time trying not to lose the thimble off my finger than it would ever save me in the long run. YMMV, of course.
Thimbles don't fit me. Wish sometimes that they made thimbles for children.
I don't have the attention span to make proper alterations. I will run a seam in it and be done in 15 minutes.😑 I can also do a full quilt in 35 minutes😉
SEW, not see (darned auto-correct!)
I really wanted to know how to make sure your hand stiching isn't going to come undone. I don't trust it 😢
from an amateur opinion: tiny tiny stitches, short lengths of thread di uf a bit comes undone the whole lot doesn't...
I thought that was called a slip stitch. I would be terrified of putting something like this under a machine. I'd rather have the control of going by hand but... small side eye, why aren't you using a thimble? You know it not only saves your fingers but makes your stitches look a million times better. Just saying
I’ve sewn for over 60 years and I never used a thimble. I could never get the hang of sewing with a thimble. Always seemed awkward to me. Don’t see how a thimble could make your stitches look better. I’ve made everything from home decor to wedding dresses.
@@annseabolt6645I know you won’t but using a thimble helps you sew much faster and saves your fingers. Historically, before the sewing machine, people used thimbles so that they could sew more efficiently. It’s objectively better and I don’t say that about a lot of things 😂
Thank you!!! I need this!!!! I do alterations as a side hustle. What's your Facebook? Need to be in your group. Keep up the good work 👍 Robin N Otis -Clayborne
