I have been listening to this track for over 40 year now. It is in my all time top 10 records of all time. This record does something to me deep in my soul that I can't put my finger on its a work of art sonically and I thought no one could match Frankie. When this popped up on my feed the nigjt after the broadcast I thought I'd give it a listen knowing deep down that no one could match the original, well, how wrong was I, this is an incredible performance, it blew me away I was transfixed by the whole thing. The crowd loving it, the band, backing singers and especially the lead, absolutely amazing rendition, this guy can sing and then some. So glad the full version is up on here to enjoy time and again. It don't get better than this...
Amen, this just blew me away too, a record that holds a lot of memories of great people and friendship past, bless them all that went before, I was far to young for Wigan but it never leaves you this music, keep the faith✊🏿✊🏿

This was an incredible performance of this song. I hope we get to see more of Darrell Smith because he has an amazing voice.

Heh... the girl in the audience, right at the beginning when she hears the bass line drop... "Yes!"....."OH MY GOD!!" then... "OOOOhhh!!!!!".. hahahaha love it. This would have been the best surprise ever. I wish I was at this concert.
Honestly my favourite Frankie Valli song. This performance truley did that song justice, with the full orchestra. Just like the original track.
The fact this wasn't a hit single because of record execs is criminal, but, at least it gets the recognition it deserves today!
Blimey....chills up and down my spine. Where has Darrell Smith been hiding? In my humble opinion, praps one of the greatest BBC Proms of all-time...and there have been many.

@@MrSOLOPIANIST I watched a showcase video if his recently and seriously, if I didn't love him after this night at the proms, in the showcase he TOTALLY blew me away with a cover of an old Gino Vannelli song from the late 70's/80 that I used to play on full blast on my headphones (still have the vinyl - never getting rid of those), that would have just sealed the damned deal. Excellent singer.

The whole show was amazing but you stole it with this track.
There's something quite unique and genuine about you and you put your heart n soul into the song.

The whole Prom was great and I loved it, the singers and the orchestra were terrific and clearly having a blast. But this was the standout performance for me...
What I love is the spontaneous total uproar of the audience on this, song - everything they've been "Yay, that was great!". This, they are "Oh my God! Thankyou!"

From what my wife tells me, northern soul weekends were a wonderful time when ppl got to gather and enjoyed the music and felt as though they were a part of a family.

loved Northern Soul since I was a teenager, now im 62 and still dancing around the living room , nice to see NS in the mainstream , its been under appreciated for too many years , much better than the dross we hear every day!

Great version of 'The Night'. by Darrell Smith. Credit also to the other singers on the night & a fantastic orchestra. I cant help wondering how many musicians there were on the original recording by Frankie Valli - probably not many. Wish I'd been in the RAH for this perfomance - brings tears to the eyes!
This is so fuckin' great! I had goosebumps all over my body when I watched all the videos and listened to the phantastic sound - so tight, so authentic! Just marvellous!
There definitely has to be a live album and a DVD from this evening.
And there would have to be a big tour through Europe.
I think this shows best what I always miss when today's bands play Northern Soul songs: the line-up is simply too small. This orchestra is just amazing!
