Paul Simon, one of the greatest singer/songwriters of our generation. I remember this tune , and still has meaning today. I dedicate this song for my boy who just came home along with his MP CO for a tour oversees. Welcome home, good to have you all safe at home.
Two of the most talented songwriters and singers/ musicians of my lifetime, so many gifts they have given us, so many memories in song to attach to our life stories, God has blessed us with tier talent...
Great sounds and feeling... deep on so many levels. It's sad that Paul Simon had to try to pig the limelight and grab all the credit for what was a wonderful musical combination....
natebelville - our school brass band (in Germany) is currently practising "Scarborough Fair", and I was surprised that even the younger kids (12) knew the song. At least here they are still appreciated and admired. And I make sure my kids are introduced to their wonderful music.
One of the funniest things I ever saw was the Smothers Brothers show episode when Paul Simon was a guest, years after the break up, and Tommy went on stage with him, wearing an Art Farfunkel wig And if that wasn't hilarious enough, guess who showed up and asked Tommy what he was doing? It was awesome. I'd love to see that on utube. Of course all these Simon and Garfunkel videos are great.
I'm glad I stumbled on this clip just so I can say how much I love Simon and Garfunkel. By all rights there should be just as many teenagers and 20 somethings wearing Simon and Garfunkel T-shirts as Beatles shirts. I think it must be an image thing. I personally don't see the stiff nerdy thing that others see. Paul Simon is on the top of the heap for singer songwriters and guitar players. Art Garfunkel has a haunting ethereal voice. They harmonize like a dream. What's not to love?
@@GreatGooglyMoogley16 Yes, me too. He always say, Artie, so sweet, even though the pair of them aren't friends now. I wish they'd just make up before one of them goes. The surviving one will forgive himself, if they never made peace.
in the 70s i was in my 1st grade..onto early teens at end of decade; we siblings didnt hv good relationship with ma & pa, all violence in the house. But the only soulful consoling, heart-warming, our emotional escapade among us siblings was the real, deep music during the decades of the 60s, 70s, 80s..this is our attachment for life
On this day in 1966 {February 28th} Simon and Garfunkel performed "Homeward Bound" on the NBC-TV program 'Hullabaloo!'... Sixteen days earlier on February 12th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #5 and spent 12 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #9 in the U.K. and #20 in Australia... Ten years later on November 20th, 1976 Paul Simon performed it in a duet with George Harrison on NBC's 'Saturday Night Live'... R.I.P. Mr. Harrison {1943 - 2001}...
my heart aches when i hear this song. my brother use to sing this beautiful song when he came home from a tour of duty. I lost my brother and I can still hear him singing. he was my heart and soul. I will always love him.
did notice something different from todays music videos and shows, you're right, it is actually more relaxing and effective to watch people sing staying in one place, it really seems to make the performance better, and it's easier to listen to what the artist(s) is trying to convey, great observation!
The coolest bangs ever, Paul Simon. only rivaled by that of Lenard Nimoy as Spock and Betty Page. I love the hair and the large Art fro. These guys were so good. Did they really exist. Was there music really this great & original at one point in America? Yes. Thank God.
This is great music and what they have today is not this... but thank God great music did not end with us- There's lots of good stuff still out there for us "old foggies" to listen to if we just come down off our high horse and look for it :)
We all know that back in the day the music was better. But there are plenty of bands that are amazing even today, I mean today there are so many different genres. If you're looking for something similar to this you should really listen into the genre Indie-Folk. Band's like Fleet Foxes, Iron and Wine, Junip, Bon Iver, Dallas Green, Devendra Banhart, and so on. There are plenty of new artists that are great, we just have to find what we like best.
On this date in 1966 {Feb. 12th} "Homeward Bound" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it peaked at #5 and spent 12 weeks in the Top 100... Ranked #56 on Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 Singles of 1966 chart... Was their 2nd charted record; it followed "The Sound of Silence", which peaked at #1... Reached #2 on the Canadian Singles chart... Covered versions: The Beau Brummels, Cher, Glen Campbell, Janie Fricke, Davey Graham, Jack Jones, Jack's Mannequin, and Petula Clark...
@michel1890, Amen to that my friend!! I'm part of the baby boom generation myself. The rock and folk music that came out of the 60's, very often, tries to be imitated. But it will never be duplicated!!!
I just love this. So early and so innocent. So evocative. My college years distillled. They just sang the words they wrote and "Homeward bound " stays with me since the death of my mother. They were young then so it is not the same for them as for me.
Thanks for the info that you provide in your comment. That SNL duet with Simon and Harrison was incredible! Homeward Bound and George's Here Comes the Sun were both done so beautifully with such rich harmonies that I teared up during both songs. I could listen just to Paul's intro and ending picks on his guitar on this song and be satisfied. Beautiful music indeed. I surely do agree on your final statement- RIP Georgie! You are so missed- during this insane time in our world more than ever.
that pilot didn't pick that song , just cause of its bilboards rating. .What a rough time for you and that pilot. I'd like to hear his story too. Thanks a million for sharing what so many -of the next generation- are not remembering.
It was Art's turn to borrow the moustache. If you put "BBC Homeward Bound" on U Tube you will a rendition where Paul sings this solo, accompanied only by the travelling moustache..:)
I think this was from 67- - I wasnt drafted till 70(part of the last groups) I came home in 1971.- ->>Yeah, comin home ...didnt get that warm fuzzy feeling , but it was and still is HoMe * * The show was cancelled in 1969 ,it had been problem for CBS censors because of sexual innuendos, racial overtones, and political themes Smothers Brothers had some righteous morals & it cost them- -. Love those old shows!!
I never saw it like that but you are right, he does. Slightly 70s porno even. Later I saw "artie" as having this almost ethereal beauty that Paul could not compare. Of course, in later life it gets evened out. Paul has aged extremely well.
Your post is very true indeed. So many artists nowadays do not have the vocal talent in the first place but then add lots of movement to distract from that fact.. In turn they cannot breathe sufficiently to sing properly .Very few "highly mobile" singers can do it so they lip sync instead to a studio recorded version of themselves.. Which in turn makes it more obvious they are not singing.. Mind you... You should never under estimate the stupidity of the general public!!
Now this is what I call music. The popular mess of today lacks heart, soul, and talent. Paul and Art were a class act.
If you remember- this was not popular when we found it :P Just sayin'
God, Yes!
shut up boomer
Yes 😊
if i was on a desert island i would only wish for the music of simon and garfunkle. these two get me through the days.
They were one of the best sounds, the best duos, ever. I still sing their songs also in my car, in my house.
It's amazing the very synchronized cadence they have. Pure greatness.

Love the harmonies on this song. I could listen to Garfunkel do his little oooooh, ooooohs all day. They were/are great
these two are my all time favourite artists. paul is a modern day mozart and arty had a voice that made angels envious...

Ê uma dupla atemporal, na criação, na harmonia vocal e musical e rítmica. São eternos. Entre tantas lindas, adoro The boy living in New York.

Wow, can these two play sweet music together. It is so rare to find two singers whose voices meld in perfect harmony!
This song brings tears to me, too. I know what it is to be homesick. May God bless you and ease your anguish! Every day brings you closer to home!
love simon and garfunkel its music u can enjoy and relax to
And God said: "Let there be two-part harmony," and there was Simon and Garfunkel!!!
'Sure'. [Boredly Shrugs this Example before continuing elsewhere instead]
Wonderful song, wonderful kind of music ... directly from the heart.
I listen to this song 100s time and this version is today found here.beautiful.

Pure inspired genius...
"But all my words come back to me
In shades of mediocrity
Like emptiness in harmony
I need someone to comfort me"
It was brilliant to emphasize the word "home" that way. When you look away, you realize that it is necessary musically.

Lololol never knew he had one before. And I love how Paul always calls him Artie!!! XD

Brilliant! I long for this kind of music. Don't see it much nowadays.
These guys got me through my teen years. Paul's lyrics were so comforting when I felt like shit.
They're so good it hurts !
12-27-1969 ?
I think that I seen this on tv live in color back in solid state hifi!
love it and Thank you
this is when music made you feel good inside, at least it does me. S&G songs take me to my happy place.
wow this song still moves me even though i heard it a thousand times.

thanks for letting the rest of us know how painful and mixed up a time it was.
@cboncklis you got that right. A guitar and their incredible harmonious voices, on stage, with a mic, some lights...you get perfection.

Regardless for or against the war, I just wish our country had given you and the rest of the vets a big home welcome that you never had.
They were outstanding!
Perfect harmony.
they were great on this show, I believe they even participated on some skits and always with smiles and willing to play along, great episode.
Music that speaks directly to the heart.
i'm study in England and i miss my home in Vietnam so much :(
almost crying when listening to this song...
Perfect message. There's a lot of excellent stuff out there. watching network tv is definitely not going to uncover it.

Back when the priority wasn't about
Fame, & money it was all about lyrics & Melodies that we, the listeners, could connect with in our own lives 💗
A favorite duo band of mine.
I saw them recently in Nagoya, Japan, and it was my highlight of the year! Brilliant, without compare. Art's forgiven for the moustache here! Ha!
that good im going to watch it again and again and again

music that calmed the savage beast in me in times of trouble and doubt
I am loving all the Artie love on this video.
