  • Honda Transalp 750 vs Suzuki Vstrom 800 DE - Part 1 | KNOX
    The Middle weight adventure bike segment is one of the most contested parts of the new bike market.
    In this 2 part series we put the latest offerings from Japan head to head against the beautiful English lake district backdrop.
    This is Honda Transalp 750 vs Suzuki V-strom 800 DE in an epic 2 day adventure motorcycle trip.
    Patience will be tested, bikes will be dropped, laughs will be had, and most importantly memories will be made as we carve out mountain pass, trails, beaches and sodden campsites all in the quest to figure out which one comes out on top.
    Hope you enjoyed this one, and we look forward to publishing Episode 2 next week!

    Beautifully shot, but not a lot of actual information. There's something interesting about abs and traction, but... kind of light on info. I'll look forward to more content rich reviews on the Transalp, and maybe in Pt 2 of this.

    Liked the video...wise move to camp near a pub in that kind of weather...From previous reviews, most have said that the Honda is better on the road, and that the Suzi is better on the off road/trails. I currently own the Suzi, and find it to be a snappy riding machine on road, with lots of torque and the ability to go whichever direction you want, when you push on the handlebar. Better tires than stock would make it a much better off road machine. Depends on riders taste and use though.

      @KnoxArmour  Před 10 měsíci +6

      Thanks Richard. If that was the feedback from other reviews, not sure I'd agree to be honest. Wait till episode 2, but personally, I find the Suzuki more confidence inspiring on road with a more connected front tyre feeling. It is also more plush on gravel type roads, but I am sure the Transalp would be more capable in more technical off road terrain and is definitely easier to chuck around. The Dunlop trailmax raid control tyres we fitted were phenomenal, awesome wet road grip and very good grip off road for an adventure tyre. Thanks, Aaron KNOX

    watch enough reviews on these bikes and you see an obvious split. Most American reviews praise the 800de and say it doesnt feel as heavy as it is. Most say the 800de is better offroad and it should be with better suspension. The British fellows love the Honda. If they think the 800 is heavy to pick up Id reckon they havent picked up a T7 or africa twin lol

    It's amazing how a reviewer can spend minutes complaining that the Transalp electronics are worthless, then say the bike is "mint." Then the same reviewer stated how heavy the 800DE was and didn't even ride it. In my experience and watching all the reviews the 800DE is easier to pick up than the T7 and as easy to pick up as the Transalp. All the Euro reviewers seam very Transalp biased and don't use ADV bikes as ADV bikes. The 800DE was the clear winner in the sand in this video review. Electronics are better, torque is better, suspension is better, but forget that...the Transalp is "mint." Lol

    • @nukezat
      @nukezat Před 10 měsíci +12

      Also Noticed too many reviews swooning over the honda, when in paper the vstrom is miles ahead. Better suspension, removable subframe, more powerful engine.

      @KnoxArmour  Před 10 měsíci +5

      When the electronics were turned off it was mint... think that was pretty clear from the video.
      I had ridden the 800DE... but you don't need to ride it to feel how heavy it is... i tried picking it up, and its so heavy! Fair bit heavier in feeling and in reality in comparison to the transalp. Thanks, Aaron KNOX

      Neither are aimed at serious off roaders. That’s where big lightweight singles come in. No such thing as a do it all bike which is just market hyperbole to sell bikes.
      As adv bikes for 95% road work, I’d take the big Suzy every time. More comfortable, better seat, and for me, a nicer gruntier engine tuned a little like the outgoing 650 making it superbly user friendly. Better suspension too. Suzuki just seem to do oe suspension so well dialled in.
      Honda is still heavy. Ok 22kg lighter but chuck luggage on it and that advantage disappears. For my money though, the DE 800 road biased version is better spec’d, has a great choice of rubber with the 2
      17/19 tubeless wheels, a better screen and I’d have one over a GS. Why? It’d do everything a gs will do at half the price and be reliable, unlike many gs’s…or KTMs to be fair.

    I test rode both and would personally go for the Transalp.
    But just for 2 reasons that are very personal:
    1) I prefer to sit "in" the bike and not " on" the bike
    2) the stock sound of the Honda is so much better and it can be a very annoying process to legally use an aftermarket pipe where I live.
    You can barely hear the sound the Suzuki engine when riding.
    However, I prefer the looks and I think the maintaining stuff (air filter, oil glass) of the Suzuki.

    The Suzuki is, no doubt, a phenomenal bike, but it just wasn't the one for me. I'm currently enjoying the snot out of my Transalp, and hope both do well enough to be around for many years. Honestly, both bikes are great additions to the ADV segment, and the Transalp is pretty much what I wish Kawasaki had done for the re-release of the KLR. The only problem I have with it so far is the near useless 1st gear.

    All well and good but when will you start lobbying for AAAA and above ratings for motorcycle gear? Or testing your stuff to the 'old' standard which was a lot higher? To many kit manufacturers are enjoying the fact AAA is actually easily acheived so you can have something with quite low levels of protection in the same group as a full race kit or handmade fitted high spec clothing. Some are lobbying hard against any upward lift beyond AAA ratings just because it may hit profit. But we want choice!

    • @KnoxArmour
      @KnoxArmour  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Thanks and appreciate your comment. There are many misconceptions about the current EN17092 standard unfortunately and some media have presented it in a bad way. It has also been presented that AAA is low level or easy to achieve, when in reality, it really isn't...
      We're committed to supporting EN17092 as we have been from the start, this has not changed. The introduction of the standard has significantly improved the offering that customers can buy on the market place and this can only be a good thing. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
