    There was a story told in the Late Nostalgia Critic's The Lorax Review. It went: while the new adaptations of timeless classics may be crap they also draw attention to the past and if some are optimistic enough that past will be seen by new minds and creators that will make a better adaptation or spiritual successor or even a brand new idea inspired by it in the future.
    We can only hope.

  • @dragonstormx
    @dragonstormx Před 5 lety +10

    Identity Crisis is also my favorite episode of the season. While we saw Dot take charge in earlier episodes, this was the first time we saw somebody besides Bob act the hero, unless you count that episode where Enzo was cleaning up a mess he started in the first place.
    Megabyte wasn't very successful in his acts of villainy, so this episode showing us what Mainframe would look like if he won was jarring with just how horrifying the city would look under his rule. My only issue is that the show treats Cyrus' betrayal as a big twist even though it was really obvious. That is one thing I feel this show gets wrong, when there is a traitor is always really obvious.

    • @GeteMachine
      @GeteMachine Před 4 lety

      I always liked that episode because it really shows how important Bob was to protecting the system, even though it seemed goofy and that Bob just did everything on the spot. Yet the episode seemed like a big foreshadow of what eventually happens in season 3. Especially with Dot fearing she failed to stop Megabyte and the sectors he infected. Yet he didn't do exactly that in Season and ended up destroying Mainframe anyway. You also get that foreshadow of Matrix in Enzo. Yet he ironically turned out that way because of how much he hated himself for failing as a guardian. It was pretty deep.
      I do agree about Cyrus though, he didn't by any means look like an innocent character at all, and he looked obvious as a villain, he just fooled the protagonists because he pretended to be naive. He just looked obvious to the viewers. Though he later redeems himself as an actual good character, which was nice.

      I mean...as much as I like Reboot, the reason anything Pixar did gets a pass is because the absolute worst their animation ever got in anything the average person might have seen is so far beyond Reboot that it is an absolutely insane comparison. Early pixar was not great by modern standards; early Reboot is the worst CGI most people have ever seen. One is something you *can* choose to overlook and thus won't necessarily affect your viewing experience, while one just isn't, in much the same way a person can look past Standard-Definition VHS-quality video, but doing the same with something from the Silent Film era is much more difficult.

      Apparently the reason the CGI looks so bad in this new show is that the Unreal rendering process was just dumped on the animators. The pinned comment in my Guardian Code review video goes over an account of one of the animators working on the show who described the process as pretty chaotic.

    "The TIFF" was probably least favorite episode from the season, but it's saved from the "Starship Alcatraz" game Bob & Dot have to play in the latter half. One Dot's most bad ass scenes is when she goes full Rambo in the corridor as the camera cuts between different angles.
    Other than that, I agree season 1 was pretty solid. "Identity Crisis" is probably my favorite, although "Racing the Clock," "Wizards, Warriors, and a Word From Our Sponsor," and "The Crimson Binome" definitely give it a run for it's money. I think "Identity Crisis" appeals to me the most because the 2-part format allowed for a more fleshed out story, and it's arguably the first story of the series that shifted to a darker tone -- the dystopian "Megaframe" was very apt at creating a sense of hopelessness, defeat, despair, dread, gloom, etc. Very uncommon for Saturday morning cartoons to depict such a dark world for the heroes, but then IMO, modern kids' TV has become so kid-friendly, it makes the original ReBoot look like it belonged on Adult Swim.

    • @BullSession
      @BullSession  Před 6 lety +2

      The TIFF was probably my least fav that season. Not really bad per say, just the least best. Identity Crisis really is in many ways a precurser to what the show would look like tonally a few years down the line.

    There's something very special about that era, long gone now, when you could do a show that was vaguely themed on something that the audience knew very little about, and cared even less for accuracy to.. so you can just use random computer terms, slap them on a bizarre fantasy world, and call it "this is what's happening in your computer" and nobody minded one bit.

      There's like 4 different Picard binomes. The best one is the one in season 3.
      EDIT: Oh, I remember which episode it was. I think it's from AndrAIa. When Bob comes in at the beginning of the episode complaining about how sprites don't know how to play games. The two binomes are Kirk and Picard. Season 2 episode 5 or 6.

    The funny thing was that the whole censorship thing was true and lead to the downfall of Mainframe Entertainment, because of one guy. The thing was that the guys behind Reboot would end up calling their little Company Mainframe Entertainment. And when having there fight with ABC, one man on ABC's side took Mainframe Entertainment side against ABC. He would later quit his job on ABC and would be hired by Mainframe Entertainment as a result of his issues with ABC/Disney, and then take over Mainframe Entertainment and slowly kill the Company with one decision after another. And then sell Mainframe Entertainment to Warner Bros. He was also responsible for the horribly bad decision of Transformers falling Mainframe Entertainment's and Hasbro's successful Transformers: Beast Wars with the garbage many Transformers fans still deny ever happened Transformers: Beast Machines. Beast Machines was so bad that Hasbro ended there contract with Mainframe Entertainment. That with many other bad decisions lead to Mainframe Entertainment being taken over by Warner Bros. And that guy was Dan DiDio who is kinda the head of DC Comics with Jim Lee. And after so many bad decision at DC many Amazon Attack, and not letting go of 52 with Countdown and so on, he now holds back and takes care of the DC Comic fils...
    Never mine the DC Comic films suck right now.

    I gotta say, your retrospective is WAAAAAAAAAAY better than Pokeprof's ReBoot retrospective. His was decent, but he used the same retrospective style as Linkara, which didn't really work for this kind of show. It didn't help that he just kind of leapt into the show without giving a firm explanation of it's history or why it is so important to the world of animation. You did a much better job at that, and did a fantastic job of interjecting your own opinions and views into it. Overall, your retrospective felt much neater and tighter than Pokeprof's video series overall.

    I would say that my top favorite episodes are; Medusa Bug, Enzo The Smart, and Identity Crisis.
    Though I do have some favorite moments in season one of ReBoot.
    I rewatched it recently.
    I recommend ALL of ReBoot, but you don't need that recommendation.
    I know Max Steel is out of date, but still worth a review for both series.
    SWAT Kats, Scooby Doo, Farscape, Stargate (ALL), and yeah I could give you a list.
    And I gave you two hard recommendations; God knows Scooby Doo and Stargate has a lot.
    Ghostbusters I would love to see simply because I've been reading the comics recently. I would love to see a full review that includes the three movies, The Real Ghostbusters, Extreme Ghostbusters, and the Ghostbusters video game. The 2016 Ghostbusters wasn't great but their introduction in the comics has made me like that version more espcially with how the other series are canon.

It's "The Trias Effect", which was a series of ads that acted as a sequel to the original ABC airing of "The Medusa Bug". Basically, the original ABC cut of that episode ended with everything turning to stone again, resulting in Bob having to fix it (again) Surprisingly, this was never aired again or even put on DVD, and the only known copies of it are crappy VHS recordings you can find on CZcams.
