"So the bad guy from the opening is his dad got it" DUDE that wasnt obvious, plus Vera is Hot (she's 22)
I'm i a dumb ass?
"I'm finally going to win!"
Actually, the user did win a game in season 3. In fact, it's implied he won several games as there are nulls all over Mainframe. It wasn't until Bob came that they started regularly winning games. Did the people who made this new show even watch the original?
"Did the people who made this new show even watch the original?"
Maybe an episode or two from season 1, but that's about it.
YEah, that's what I was thinking as well. They borrowed elements from mostly season 1, while ignoring the other seasons. Which would be fine, if we didn't clearly see memorabilia on the User's room that depicts later seasons and events.
they're using real life actors for show that used 3D animation clearly they didn't and don't care
The User won a game on-screen in the very first episode, "The Tearing." Megabyte's cronies kept Bob from entering a game cube. The binomes caught inside lost.
James Syrup most of the nulls came from hexadecimal's area. Remember there use to be another sister city in mainframe. Until Dot's father tried to connect to the web. That's when Gigabyte split into megabyte and Hexadecimal.
The following information has come to my attention, from a post made by an anonymous Rainmaker employee posted before the show was available to watch on Netflix, which means it is likely authentic:
"I feel you guys deserve an explanation and since I can't talk publicly about this without putting my job in danger I'll post this here where everyone will think I'm larping. Everybody that was working on this show knew this backlash was coming but Hefferon has his head so far up his ass he wouldn't listen to anybody and nobody could tell him to smarten up since he owns the whole company any idea he came up with was put in no matter how stupid, hell sometimes he brought his kid into reviews and had the kid give notes, also fun fact the main character shares a name with his kid and the main character's father's name is the name of his assistant. The production itself was a massive disaster as well, Hefferon got sold on using the unreal engine for lighting and rendering the series despite rainmaker having a superb traditional CG pipeline because the first ReBoot was the first CG show on TV he wanted to make this show a first as well so the first unreal game engine show on TV.
"To compound that problem those of us that came over from a traditional pipeline were given next to no training in unreal so we are figuring it out as we went along, the guy that was supposed to be the big know it all guy about unreal ended up being completely incompetent at his job but was great at kissing Michael's ass and creating conflicts by going behind the art and animation director's backs. Also wouldn't be surprised if a # MeToo story comes out about this guy as he was just creepy in general with the girls on the team. The project also went through a number of different art directors as they got fed up and quit due to the related issues this of course caused a lot of issues to the point where most environments in the show were just improvised off of single concept images. Also in the trailer you might notice some of the CG shots look extremely crappy and some look good, here's why that is. The creepy kiss up guy from earlier convinced Hefferon early on that reboot wouldn't need a team of lighters since "The game engine will do that automatically for us." So for the first few episodes there was no team dedicated to lighting the shots so it fell to the world builders to light those episodes and as no world building had any lighting experience you can see the results, after those episodes were complete they finally came to the realization that you actually need lighters to get good TV show level lighting so they hastily hired a team of lighters but because it was so late in the production schedule they had to hire basically anybody that applied so that means the majority of the lighters were straight out of school, and I don't think they finished up hiring that team till episode 11 or 12. Another reason for the crappy looking CG is because there was absolutely no training provided to the surfacing team on how shaders in unreal work, so you had them going in blind muddling their way through trying to figure out how to make ship work, hell the most any of us got to training in unreal for the whole project was about 2 weeks. I know to people outside the industry surfacing and lighting may not sound important but they are the subtle things that make something go from looking cheap and bad to looking good in CG.
"In summary the production was a complete cluster fuck with a CEO making all the decisions, refusing to listen to anybody just making his pet fantasy project about his self inserted son, but hey he got what he wanted, he can now say reboot the guardian code is the first ever show to be made with the unreal engine and rendered in 4k plus there is some VR stuff. Watch anytime he talks about the show he'll hit on those points, hell those are the points we've been told to hit on in the handout they gave us about how we're supposed to talk about the show in public.I'm very sorry about the product we put out there, I can't imagine how hard it is for long time fans of ReBoot to look at this abomination, if you're holding out any hope for this show don't, not only did the spit on the grave of ReBoot they did it in a badly written, badly acted show. If you're wondering if they tried to do anything to placate you guys, that'd be episode 10, they have all the old main characters in that episode but only that episode and it's just as badly written and acted as they other episodes. Do not watch this show, do not support this show or if you feel the need to satisfy your curiosity about it wait at least a month after release, netflix tends to make a decision on renewing for more seasons based on the numbers after about 2-4 weeks so the last thing this show needs is to do well out of morbid curiosity during those weeks and get another season."
Mainframe, the original company that made Reboot and Transformer: Beast Wars, made me very proud to have a local CG animation company that create original content in my home town, Vancouver, BC. Reboot was the first full CG show telling original (and great) story one year before Pixar's Toy Story. I didn't even know this netflix... thing... existed. Rainmaker, just stop, there is a reason that talents don't stay long in your company, and your CEO kept changing over time.
Also, hang in there, anonymous Rainmaker employee. Work hard for yourself, then get out when you have the chance.
Wow. This sounds alarming.
Guessing that’s also affecting production of the Sly Cooper animated series as well
No, that show is being handled by Technicolor.
Well, that's sad... I don't plan on watching this anyway. Unhealthy nostalgia is not a seller to me. Hard to believe executive would destroy their product this way, and still, im not surprised...
i think they got code lyoko and reboot mixed up
the creator of Code Lyoko agrees with you:
twitter.com/Thomasintokyo/status/966852258561273856
ha ha very funny.
Hey man, Code Lyoko was way better than this. But youre right, this does feel like that more than Reboot, although its far more terrible than either.
Mean like a show that came out LONG ago shortly after Reboot called Zixx Level one? yea that show had the same premise but done better. Not by much but better than this haha, they really should have named this one.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought that! Not that Lyoko was bad, mind you...but it's by no means Reboot.
The problem is they clearly didn't watch/like/understand the original and think as long as the universe (kind of) matches up, it's good enough to call it by the same name.
To put it in perspective, it's like I said "I want to remake The Godfather as a TV show, but modern audiences don't want to see a story about a mafia family in 1945. So my remake would be about a teenager from 2018 who finds a magic bowler hat that transports him to the 1930s where he meets a teenage Michael and becomes friends. Together they have to navigate high school as a boy from the future and the son of a mafia don while unaware that an evil supervillain has also been transported and is trying to take over the school! I'll call the show Godfather the Family Business. It will have everything to attract fresh new fans while paying respect to the old fans by referencing the original as often as possible. Everyone is gonna love it!"
Not gonna lie... I'd watch the shit out of that show.
Can't be any worse than Godfather 3.
Just like michael bay transformers.
I didn't even know this existed until now. Kinda wish I was still oblivious to that fact.
Way to fuck up a classic show.
Sometimes they say ignorance is bliss... this may be one of those times.
Where's my gallon of mind bleach when I need it. I need to forget that they rebooted reboot.
yeah, agreed. Also, hi.
I really hoped this was some horrible joke. I really, really hoped it was a horrible joke.
I wish I was also still oblivious. The original Reboot was a groundbreaking show that took chances to be genuinely edgy. This crap is a cheesy, poorly put together Power Rangers ripoff.
My toonami childhood takes another hit.
+NyQuiiL Cold & Flu
Huh, I was reminded of that just now...
I think it took a baseball bat to the head and curbstomped
"The show is bad and I don't like it."
Perfect.
It was the most susinct description I could think of
The inclusion of the original characters, especially Enzo 01, makes me fell like this is an alternate time-line, where instead of all the cool stuff happening from the original series, a bunch of stupid stuff happens instead.
That's pretty much how I'm choosing to view it too.
+numberfourtytwo
More likely another computer's MainFrame. You forget that it was implied the original cast in the original show existed in the computer of a single user. What we are looking at could be duplicates in another user's computer.
Please let that be that case so a real Reboot show happens that just makes swipes at this one.
Honestly, if they ever made an actual follow-up to ReBoot, I'd rather this show was just never acknowledged.
I HAVE to tell myself that!
Guys. Don't forget to leave reviews on Netflix and IMDB so that the creators know how we feel. I would like to encourage everyone to leave DETAILED and THOUGHTFUL reviews talking about actual likes and dislikes. Corporate suits are very thick and we need to make it crystal clear WHY this new reboot is getting poor reviews.
That's a great point. Here's a link to the IMDB page:
www.imdb.com/title/tt6849940/
Just looked at some of the reviews on the IMBD page.
Funny that all the positive reviews (three in total - each one 10/10) were all posted on April Fools Day.
lol
true. Be sure to add on with your own thoughts and stuff.
I have to wonder if the people who praise the show have ever seen the original series or if they're bots programmed to leave positive feedback (I'm sure there are people who enjoy this new series; I'm more referring to the positive comments that mention that episode 10 gives some closure to the season four cliff hanger - and I have to ask how they can claim that if they're familiar with the OG series)
The animation team knew this was gonna create backlash and tried to warn Micheal Heffron. He ignored them. This show is his vanity project.
I just read the anonymous post by the Rainmaker employee. I'm so angry now, I'm having trouble processing it.
The only reason why I will never like the show (which was talked about earlier):
You bring in LIVE ACTORS....
INACCURATELY portraying a LEGENDARY AND BELOVED SERIES....
that was made ENTIRELY IN CGI.
Gavin Blair and Tony Jay would be rolling in their graves.
I know this stuff. I read the anonymous post. Go to the Web, Mike.
So like a Shark boy an lava girl project..only somehow more meh
I need to make a correction. Gavin Blair is still alive. Thank the User!
"Say, remember , Mike, Hack, Slash, the game Cubes, Hexadecimal dying in a heroic sacrifice, Bob being reformatted into a Web Guardian, the Net Wars, Cecil, the Crimson Binome and Gavin Capacitor's awesome pirateness, Ray the Web Surfer and his romance with the badass hacker chick Mouse...OH! And the gun-toting 90's badass Matrix? Yeah let's scrap aaaallll of that. Let's just have THESE four little cookie-cutter chodes and their real-world issues. That's what people want, right?"
MrShoebox21
*WRONG!!!!!!*
That transformer reference killed it.
This show isn't ReBoot no matter what references or characters they throw into it. At the end of the day, it shouldn't have had a connection with the original series at all. ReBoot is an extra topping on The Guardian Code that could've been left out.
Fans aren't asking for 13 episodes, a trilogy, or even the end of the world. We just want the ending to one of the biggest tease in the cartoon history.
You earned a subscription from me.
Agreed. Would have been better if they'd just ignored the original completely since they obviously weren't interested in doing it justice.
Yep. It's even sadder after reading the updates and interview on www.rebootrevival.com/ page. I always check in on that website for the ReBoot news. It is a real heartbreaker. Why couldn't they just take a page out of Samurai Jack? As Bob would say, "This is bad. This is very bad."
Yea, a Samurai Jack style conclusion would have been ideal.
This really is the worst timeline.
Sad thing is, the comic no longer exists (not thati could ever find it!)
I read it once but that was years ago when it first came out. You could find it on ReBoot Revival, but not anymore.
Dude, have you really seen the show? He's not banging on the Enter key, he's banging on the Shift key. Which is, arguably, much worse actually...
Good lord, you're right. That is much worse haha
Oh no, he might activate the dreaded sticky keys!
HE GOT DA STICKY KEY VIRUS
well he is a shifty person
No, not the shift key! That will cause what he is typing to be capitalized giving the impression that he is speaking very loudly. That monster!
Episode 10 seemed to on the one hand want to somewhat appease older fans but at the same time also gave us the middle finger. I'm not sure how the basement dwelling nerd ReBoot fan knew about Mainframe and why he wanted to play a game that could kill and damage mainframe and it's inhabitants even though the guy seemed to be a fan who had posters up all over the place? It doesn't even make sense. Just thrown in there to insult older ReBoot fans.
Yea, it's a bit all over the place in that regard. Sort of like they're saying "Hey, check it out! Here's the old characters back! Isn't this awesome? Didn't we do a great job!? Alright cool; now get lost you fucking loser."
I haven't seen the episode (it's not available in Canada Netflix yet), but I can kinda tell from the clip shown here that it was more middle finger than anything.
As I mentioned in the other comment on this thread, the easiest way to handwave this was to make the hacker the "user" from the original series. This "reboot fan" appears to have been thrown in explicitly to give the middle finger to the reboot fans, as not only does it look like it was tacked on at the last minute, it doesn't even fit any of the logic that could have been used to salvage this. Like to put things in context, software didn't come on CD's in 1991 (and ye gods, they used an Xbox 360 disc cover on what should be a CD Jewel case that everything came in up to the PS2), they were still floppy discs. Internet access was not a thing with home PC's until 1994 (with Windows 95), though many of us had modems to connect to BBS systems at the time, only universities had "net" access, as ARPAnet (the internet's predecessor) and Unix was around before Windows ever became a thing. ARPAnet didn't officially cease to exist until 1990, which is when the Reboot TV show was being developed. So the internet underwent some rapid changes just during the time it was being created.
But this show seems to completely fail at all the goals the original show had (for one, every woman has agency, every named character has goals), and doesn't even understand what the original show's goals were. Once the original show got to S3, any pretense of it being a kiddy cartoon was thrown out. So for the developers of TGC, sorry but no, this reads like a TV-series length commercial for a mobile game.
I couldn't have said it any better, Yuki.
+Kisai Yuki
Are *_any_* of the ten Season 1 episodes of Reboot: The Guardian Code on Netflix Canada yet in time??? (I'm just curious about this, as I'd like to be able to watch at least the first episode or two, so that I can watch them firsthand and personally see on how bad in which it really is there.)
Not yet, they're supposed to be available in June (on YTV) by which I presume they'll be available on Netflix.
If the User was real... and he knew about the Sprites, and he knew how hard it was to win... that means he played KNOWING his victories killed sentient beings and destroyed sectors in the computer.
Does anybody else thinks that Megabyte looks like a rejected Ratchet and Clank villain?
a little bit yea, haha
Well, Rainmaker did actually made the Ratchet and Clank theatrical movie so that makes perfect sense.
Ratchet and Clank came AFTER Megabyte, Gator.
Steven Barden I know, I’m just saying that his “upgraded” form looks a bit to much like some of the robots from Ratchet and Clank.
Now I feel like crying.
Let it out, it's ok. We're all in this together.
mrbtrn Don't blame you this idea really is bombing and I suspect someone really was on the killer blow and dope thinking it's good.
With the updated graphics; why do Bob and the gang look somehow worse than the original?
Seriously - watch Bob talking - why is the inside of his mouth blue? (same applies to Dot and Enzo - there are white teeth; but the inside of their mouths match their skin pigmentation).
This new series is rendered using the Unreal game engine, which is incompatible with the original character models. Since Bob, Dot and Enzo are not going to be regular characters, they didn't bother putting much time into modeling them. It's lame, but that's the reality, unfortunately :/
God, that sucks. What a horrible way to treat such a beloved franchise.
The only consolation in all this is - if all the feedback that has come in thus far is accurate - this joke of a series won't see a second season.
yea, I would be surprised. Unless it does exceptionally well with kids
Here's the thing, with how Netflix has it as "Season 1", they'll make a big to do with the remaining 10 episodes being "Season 2". There is no true "Season 2", as the first season order was for 20 (actually 26, but it was reduced for unknown reasons). But yeah.... they're gonna make it seem like it was renewed despite the "haters".
Reboot Revival - too bad for them that people (specifically the fans) aren't that stupid to buy into such an obvious ruse.
I'm a school janitor, and I find holographic walls all the time. Kids don't know how to hide shit.
according to this series logic, im qualified to be a navy seal because of my achievements in pokemon go
Rainmaker: "what's the worst way we can tick off fans of the Reboot series?"
"Reboot the Reboot series?"
Rainmaker: "go on"
"Make the Users actual people and do scenes in live action?"
Rainmaker "yeeeeeees?"
"and um...also make it like power rangers and that Code Lyoko series?"
Rainmaker: "I like where you're going, but it's missing something"
"Let's have a stand in for the old school fans be some stereotypical man child who lives with his mom"
Rainmaker: "GIVE THIS MAN A PROMOTION!!"
The original ReBoot was one of the major factors in getting me interested in computers. I built a ReBoot fanpage in the 90s... It was such an amazing series, especially the third season.
This new show hurts my soul.

I was very concerned The Moment I Saw teenagers. Nothing is improved by teenagers and most things are ruined by them. The moment I truly lost faith in this so-called reboot was what I would like to call classroom 9 3/4. This new show is basically the bastard offspring of Harry Potter, Tron, and the Power Rangers. The real insulting part about all of this is that they could have just followed the exact same model and done a sequel series. I even would have been cheaper to do because they already owns the rights to everything they would need to do that. If they wanted to do a one-to-one reboot of the series they could have just used the exact same characters gone along a different route with it kind of like an OVA it could have been the Brotherhood to reboot's Fullmetal Alchemist. If they didn't like that they could have made it even better show as they would have creative Liberties that the original Mainframe team lacked.
What happened to good story-telling and directing? My goodness, when ReBoot was around we had "Shadow Raiders" and "Transformers Beast Wars". What did Rainmaker think it was going to accomplish 20 years later after such shows that were ahead of its time dominated the young-adult market? The DVD collection is better quality put forth. When the series ended on a cliffhanger the short comic that was available online should have been made into a short-movie like how Mortal Kombat Legacy was done. There is no excuse for what Rainmaker attempted to do here, I recall they were in need of cash flow a decade ago to get the 3-part movie into theatres, that never happened. So did they do this intentionally to blame fans of the original? Seeing the clips made me feel as if I were watching Super Human Samurai Squad or JEM and the Holograms. The original show/characters "acted" with personality and character, something of which the ones in this version seriously lack.
From what I understand, this show is the brainchild of Michael Hefferon, who was strongly adivsed against making it by most of the people who work with him.
Then they really should have done a test panel to see whether this would get the greenlight. I did not know his crew opposed him.
NYTOC
Good characters and good story telling is what helped the original ReBoot cartoon withstand the test of time and had a strong fan base, despite it’s dated animation.
Bull Session
And he still went through with it.
NYTOC
Would you blame them?
The late Mr.John Grace would be rolling in his grave at the sight of this, rest his soul.
Turn Reboot into a piss poor version of superhuman samurai syber squad? I DON'T THINK SO!
Oh well, at least s.s.s.s. is getting a seemingly good reboot from TRIGGER...I think.
you phrased that weird but i think i know what you mean by it.
Well, it's being marketed as being a sort of animated reboot of s.s.s.s. and its Japanese counterpart, Gridman. It is being handled by the same people who worked on animes such as Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, and such.
It's Superhuman Cybersquad meets Reboot.
Literally Exactly this.
Superhuman Cypersquad, which was a ripoff of Power Rangers, which was a "ripoff" of Super Sentai, which was a ripoff of Voltron.
So it's true: there are no original ideas anymore..
It was actually Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad. Also, thanks for reminding that SHSS-S exists. Time to go gouge out my minds eye.
Kilo Kahn yo.
thank you. glad i wasn't the only one thinking of the show
ReBoot the Guardian Code is not cannon in my book.
It could have been good but they told a story that was not ReBoot.
yup, that's pretty much where I've settled on it too. It's still too bad about that cliffhanger though :/
I legitimately totally forgot about Reboot being, well, rebooted.
And despite how much I missed the show, I think my forgetfulness was for the better at this point.
"Hexidecimal's face moves now"
Nnnn...nnooo....no!
It's bizzare too, because *sometimes* they keep up her classic manerisms where she'll pass her hand over her face or the camera angle will change or something to facilitate a facial transition, so like, they're clearly AWARE that her face isn't supposed to move... but sometimes it moves anyway.
Very confusing.
Crazyivan777 They ruined the greatest coolest imaginative underrated female villain !
*SPOILER ALERT*
To be honest, I was skeptical at your comment about Hex' face at first, because in the original show, Bob defragment's Hex' face and she then joins "the good side".
But, with your comment on the fact they kept *some* hand-waving and mask replacement, AND her face moving normally, it shows the show creators/director had no idea who she was or her backstory.
I'm one of the pissed off fans, as you cab see.
This
@@politikh i know i'm with you on this!! PISSED!
SO glad I didn't watch this crap.
Yes, the first season of Reboot was very 'kiddie-fied', as it was truly a saturday morning cartoon. When it went to Canada, however, they stepped up the story to where it became some good Science Fiction. I was hoping for a return to that Reboot, not the kiddy version.
You are right, though, the voice actor they got for Megabyte was an almost perfect replacement for Tony Jay ^_^
Yea, his performance was the one highlight of the show. Makes me sad we couldn't get him in a proper ReBoot continuation.
ReBoot was always Canadian though to the best of my knowledge. The step-up in quality occured because the showrunners caught wind of rumours that ReBoot was going to be canceled, so in season 2 they completely disregarded most of the restrictions that had been placed on them by network censors in season 1, and it ended up paying off in a big way.
Yes reboot is and always has been a Canadian property.
I'm surprised this video didn't mention the fact that the original writers and team actually did want to restart the series from the cliffhanger but the higherups at rainmaker studios told them to eat it and that kids nowadays don't know reboot so it's much more safe and easy to just make a whole new show.
Long story short though you got it right. This ain't reboot, just "power rangers mainframe" lol
+Bull Session
Actually, it wasn't until *_Season 3_* in where the step up in quality occurred there, as the original series started get darker and serious in tone (plus there was a step up in the CGI that was used from there on out until its eventual cancellation in 2001).
+Steven Villman
There was another, bigger step up in quality for the thrid season, yes. But this was because they moved to a new network/timeslot so there were far fewer restrictions on what they couldn't do.
In season 2 however, they were opperating on full "fuck it" mode, since they knew they were about to be imminently canceled, which is why we get some stuff like the web creature, a marked increase in (often obscure) pop-culture references, and that bonkers ending where Bob gets betrayed and launched into the web.
Reboot has always been since day 1 a Canadian show which is awesome, for once I can say we have 2 of the greatest shows ever that were Canadian made (Reboot and Trailer Park Boys).
I am still fucking ANGRY that my cliffhanger to the end of the movie (later turned into Season 4) My Two Bobs has NOT BEEN RESOLVED. No some stupid ass comic years later DOES NOT CUT IT.
I want a proper fucking conclusion to that cliffhanger, I have been waiting since 2001 for fuck sakes. I am sick of this shit.
No one asked for this dumb gay ass show, why can't Mainframe (now Rainmaker) figure that out???
Hex's face moved when she was virus after Bob fixed it when he merged with Cliche. Then she was changed into a sprite.
Really? I don't remember that, but that's interesting. If this were another show, I'd say that the change was intentional in this new one. But I'm not giving the creators of Guardian Code that much credit.
Yep, but after she became a virus again to fight Daemon her face returned to its usual form. So, she had to use her hand to switch between expression. It is only until Bob returns to Mainframe does she receive a cure for what ills her and ONLY after meeting Daemon does she return to her old form to kick some virus ass.
I'm not sure if he was able to fix Hex under difference circumstance without being bonded with Glitch.
"I infect the entire net. I have spread through systems, peoples and cities from this place: Mainframe. My format: Virus."
Thanks for the info, also on a mistake I made over call I mean Glitch not Cliche.
I saw these episodes as well, and can confirm. Hexa had some amazing character growth at the end of the original series.
I always felt like Hex, as a virus, and even as a sprite wasn't all big and bad. I would say the character with the major development was our young companion Enizo who became Matrix. Hex, is always gonna be Hex, she does what she wants, and not everything she does is bad. So, if it suits her fancy with assisting Bob and his companions then she will do it.
Felt like someone just took a dump all over my childhood. Thanks for watching and recapping this so we all didn’t have to. Sigh.
This show looks completely devoid of all the style, substance, depth, and character that ReBoot had, kind of like almost all children's programming these days. This show couldn't even make back it's budget in toys and merchandise sales.
And I hate to repeat something that I'm pretty sure we've all either said or heard, but this show is being marketed to a demographic that likely doesn't even know what ReBoot is. And judging from that fanboy character, the studio doesn't seem to think very highly of us, so that implies to me that they'd just disregard our opinions entirely.
If this is the kind of treatment of not just ReBoot, but it's enormous and passionate fanbase, then I don't want ReBoot to come back. If they want to make money, then they could just release a dvd or blu-ray box set of the series that includes the digital comic, a voice-acted motion comic if they really want to butter us up, and that's that.
Unfortunately, due to the way that the old ReBoot was rendered, a blu-ray release in hi-def would require re-rendering everything from scratch, which would be very costly and time consuming. I'm not sure of the technical details, but that's what I've heard.
The complete series is available on dvd though.
Fair point. I guess the only real way to get the entire series from start to finish would be the dvd set and trying to find somewhere that has the digital comic available.
Emphasis on almost. I've seen a couple of gems over all the garbage that normally pertains the TV industry, both from the West and the East.
Also, they made toys and merchandise for a show that most outside of this fandom don't even know it exists? -_-
This show would have been fine with no live-action, fewer episodes, and a first season to steadily recap a younger audience and getting them invested. And if live-action Users was something that absolutely had to happen, we know it could have been done a lot better.
I really liked Reboot when it first aired and after watching this video I am very glad I have not seen this corrupted version. The most apparent thing is that whoever is driving this thing has next to no knowledge of how computers function and no grasp of what titles such as TRON, Reboot, or other computer-centered themes were trying to do. They are told from the point of view of the programs, not the users!
Any of the kids in this show are NOT Guardians, they are USERS, by the definition of Reboot.
If entering the computer world makes them weaker than Megabyte, and yet the hacker on the outside can inflict god-like manipulations on the digital world and make Megabyte submit, then WHY go to all the trouble to enter the computer, stay gods and work your influence from outside the computer, just like the hacker!
That is the much more evolved concept of the original TRON, which this live/digital series is closest too. Users = God and what happens when humans have God-like powers. It could be a great character study, but we get a Power Rangers approach that totally misses the concepts of actual responsibility, consequences of actions, and more sophisticated concepts of morality.
Some may have forgotten in the original Reboot when the entire Mainframe goes down, huge hovering letters appear in a field of black asking the never shown user if they wish to RESTORE FROM BACKUP Y/N?... there is a flashing cursor and a drawn out pause...
Then the simple Y appears from nowhere and the entire world is remade anew! Deus ex Machina indeed. The User has the power of a god and yet is also shown to have the same faults of any petty, vengeful, or callous god. Making these students susceptible program Guardians weakens them and sidesteps the fact that they could make substantive changes as Users. Now that is where the real story is.
The choices they make to stop the Hacker could then be shown to have effects, some good, some bad. But the lesson of responsibility are there, just at the level of gods and not incredibly dense high school students.
Wow, that's a terrific point. I never even thought of that...
Hexadecimals face changed after Bob fixed it in Season 3, so that isn't as sacrilegious as you say. Though this just messes up the time line of the new show more, as you said Enzo is still version 01.
Yea, I'd forgotten about that. Which means it's time to rewatch the original series!
Best reaction I’ve seen so far that was fairly balanced.
Thanks! I always try my best to give everything a fair shake, and give credit where credit's due.
no it wasn't
Crazyxl elaborate?
Regarding Enzo's pre-upgrade appearance:
If memory serves, at the end of Season 3, Bob & Co deliberately caused a system crash, forcing the User to reboot. Mainframe was restored to it's original "season 1" form, albeit with a few unusual side effects: There were now 2 Bobs and 2 Enzos -- the post-Web Bob, the pre-series Bob, the adult Enzo and the pre-series Enzo. This explains why Enzo's number is "01" instead of "10."
Didn't even know they were doing this until this video popped up in my recommended section. I wish I was still ignorant to that fact. ReBoot was one of my childhood shows, and they shit on it.
They say ignorance is bliss...
Also didn't Hex get defragged at the end of Daemon Rising? Why is she still alive?
Why is Dot also in her S1 outfit?
DID ANYONE WORKING ON THIS SHOW ACTUALLY WATCH REBOOT?!
I'm guessing they watched one or two episodes of season one and that's about it.
Someone actually posted a fan theory that this ReBoot takes place in an alternate timeline that follows after the episode "Medusa Bug".
Info: Megabyte steals a secret object from Hexadecimal, which proves to be a dangerous bug: the Medusa, which spreads throughout Mainframe, turning anything it touches into stone.
It's wishful thinking to me.
That would be way too cool to be real.
Here is the link to it; twitter.com/Protoman/status/981991234343460864
I came across it last night and thought it was super badass. It would make sense why Mainframe was offline.
that is pretty neat, but I doubt it was ever the intent
Bob looks so mad in the thumb, lol I love it. He's like, "Da fuq is this shyet?"
Literally no one would have watched it without the ReBoot name attached though
Alan Turing high? That sounds like a scary place given the history of the person it’s based on.
No no, you see, when you graduate they force-feed you an arsenic-laced apple...
NewExile or the chemically castrate you.
Let's not rule out the possibility of both
Austin Trench
Who’s Alan Turing?
It's named after the Turing Test, which is a test to prove an AI is sentient or so that people can't tell the difference between it and a person
I just recently found out about this reboot show the other night! Was about to go to bed then saw the title... The symbol passed over me as I only tried to somehow make sense of it with the first few minutes of the start...........It made no sense to me. I couldn't really bare to go on after that in fear that this weird awkward acted out thing would be related to a show I actually enjoyed back in the early toonami days! Reboot was already an odd lookin show! But it was fun! I am glad I never went past the first episode!
Glitch! The "Unsee Guardian code" button!
I love that this Canadian show airs on Netflix worldwide, except Canada. That's like icing on the cake.
I makes sense that the show would be distributed through YTV in Canada since they hold the rights here; what doesn't make sense though is that it isn't airing on YTV until June.
I thought Enzo got lost in the net, got old and all Snake Pliskin/Mad Max like, got a girlfriend and then eventually got back to Mainframe and found Bob. This series almost completely ignores the events of the original Reboot ending.
not just the ending. Enzo upgrades his look from what is depicted in this show as early as season 1.
"Hexadecimal's face moves now. Heresy. Heresy!"
.....
Exxxxcept for the fact that in the first half of season 4 (aka Daemon Rising) we see that hexadecimal's face actually does move and creates expressions (pre-virus curing).
yea, I had forgotten that at the end of season 3 Bob fixes a crack in her face, after which she is able to move it like normal.
I have a question for you I tried to look up the Axel show on CZcams but I cannot find it do you mean to tell me that's not even out yet or is it out but CZcams won't allow it it's I really want to watch it it seems interesting to me so can you please either send me a link or let me know why I can't watch it
If the show you're referring to is ReBoot The Guardian Code, you can watch it on Netflix from pretty much anywhere unless you live in Canada, where it will premiere in June on YTV.
To be fair the fact that Hexadecimal can move her face IS actually cannon, as Bob repaired her mask which was damaged in the final season and as a side effect merged her separate expressions together allowing her to emote like a normal human. Although didn't she die by sacrificing herself to stop the mega virus near the end as well?
Correction, Bob did cure Hexadecimal, but in season 3, not season 4. In season 4 she became a sprite before opting to become a virus again to defeat Daemon (and rescue Bob). After Hexadecimal's encounter with Daemon, as a sprite, her infection came back, so when she became a virus again ( via core ) she reverted back to a previous state. She could NO longer move her face without the gesture of her hand or the shaking her head rapidly.
In the episode "Sacrifice" she did sacrifice herself and became a benign virus.
In a sense ReBoot: The Guardian Code does not have a connection to ReBoot.
What I thought about "The Guardian Code"? Well, I couldn't watch beyond half of the first episode. I honestly don't care if it's good or bad, my problem with it is... it had little to nothing to do with ReBoot and worse yet, what little there was of ReBoot, has been altered, twisted into some stupid show. Don't get me wrong here, the original series wasn't perfect by any chance, but at least it wasn't stupid to the point of being insulting and didn't contradict continuity in any major way (Phong broke the rules of the world a few times for character building purposes).
The most painful thing was the cliffhanger. When rumours were out there that a ReBoot reboot will come along I got excited to find out what happened... and it seems nothing happened. The User must've formatted the computer before shutting it off 20 years ago, everything's lost. Thing is, "The Guardian Code" came and went. Beyond the trailer reactions, I had trouble finding any reviews and a couple (this one included) I did found weren't good. I think that this might kill ReBoot for good now, as the brand is being destroyed, omitted and forgotten once again. This might be the flat line of ReBoot, friends...
it's a shame really. If ReBoot wasn't dead before, it certainly is now.
I agree, I absolutely love Code Lyoko (which this is based on way more than ReBoot), but I'm not willing to give it a chance because I believe they are purposefully using ReBoot as a marketing tool to give this show attention, not caring if it angers the fans. If they hadn't made it a ReBoot "sequel" I would absolutely give this show a chance, but now I'll never bother watching it.
I still like Megabyte’s S4 design better.
Thanks for taking the hit! Now I don’t ever have to watch any of it out of curiosity... I’ll just cuddle up to my ReBoot box set while singing “I’ve Only Got Eyes For You”.
Thanks for saving me from destroying a cherished memory. I'll just forget this show ever existed and go watch the original Reboot again. Cheers!
Love the Zero Cool reference.. also I watched about five minutes of the first episode and just couldn't bring myself to keep going. The disappointment was too thick.
Hackers is a gem of a film. This however is a turd of a television show.
I feel like my child hood was just kicked
I think the best part of this was the the casting of the guy who replaced the late Tony Jay as Megabyte.
Thanks for saving my time. I was just passing the time waiting for the Bob from my childhood to come back. Turns out he's dead along with the latter😢🥀👻
how did he not see how much the code suits look like halo spartan 4s from halo5
I've never actually played Halo, but I just googled it and yea they do haha
To be fair, it's impossible to make functional looking sci-fi armor that looks totally unique. Look at things like Starcraft, Starship Troopers (the book), and Warhammer. Halo was nowhere near the first to use that style of armored mobile-tank armored suit.
They destroyed reboot, the main thing that grabbed my attention besides the nostalgia, is the fact that reboot was about the user vs the programs, and viruses. Now its just another power rangers shows, and I had enough of those. In the old reboot you got to see the daily lifes of a program and their many troubles. Now its just more human vs human dilemma(the hacker vs the kids).
Remember to rate and write a review on Netflix........ Burn this to the ground.
I KNOW! LET'S REBOOT, REBOOT and make it nothing like REBOOT
I thank you for this public service of subjecting yourself to this so the rest of us don't have to.
You're welcome! It definitely wasn't fun haha
Bleeeh. It would have been something if the digital realm were actually populated with characters like in the original series, or like TRON or anything like that. They could have stepped into a proper world. With only Megabyte and his drones or whatever there was nothing to make me care about what was going on, it didn't feel like much was at stake when all you really see of note otherwise are kids at school. They left out what distinguishes Reboot and the show only came across as barren and soulless to me. It was perplexing to see old characters and not have them the least bit concerned at being the only ones alive.
I couldn't stand the whole iron man thing going on either, It's pretty jarring to constantly jump between live faces and cg characters.
That's a good point. There are basically no other characters living in the world besides Siri in that one episode.
Let me get this straight, the producers placed the Original Series, Tron, and The Last Star Fighter in a blender, and it resulted in this crap.
I just learned that there was a Reboot reboot ^^
Thank you for sparring me the pain of watching that heresy...
You gained a subscriber from France ^^
You left out VR Troopers and Superhuman Samurai Cyber Squad. :)
Pouncer Lion
That’s the best way to describe it!
How does the CGI in this show look WORSE than the original from 95??
At least it almost gets entertaining in the few moments the main characters aren't on screen
I agree with everything except one thing. The guy that was waiting for Mainframe to come back online really did have to wait for the system to be back up to run any software on it (not counting things like porting and emulation). Before there were servers in way we think of a server now, there were mainframe systems. Mainframes were giant behemoths of processors and storage and where the backbone any IT infrastructure back in the day. Users on a mainframe were connected to it on a dumb terminal and any programs they ran were run directly on the mainframe itself. No processing was done at their dumb terminal besides taking their input and giving the output of the mainframe to them. Dumb terminals could've also been located anywhere, not just in the building with the mainframe as well.
The applications that ran on mainframes were usually proprietary and hardware specific so you could not, in many cases, take a program (or even a game) from one mainframe and expect another mainframe to run it.
What they were (very badly) trying to show in episode 10 was a guy sitting at a dumb terminal watching Mainframe boot up so he could run programs (in this case a game) on it again. Without mainframe online any software he had for it and his dumb terminal would both be dead in the water. With all processing done on the mainframe itself he would have no way to use any of his software or hardware since it's tied to a specific mainframe system.
This is one the most important differences between a traditional mainframe system and the modern client/server systems we're used to today.
Huh, interesting. That definitely could have been communicated better though, yea haha
It's not the worst thing ever. Hell, some of the episodes aren't even the worst ReBoot ever! (Sorry, but the "My Two Bobs" half of Season 4 blew. What the hell happened to Dot's character?!)
The 1st episode of Guardian Code SUCKED! It was definitely NOT ReBoot. It was warmed over Superhuman Samurai crossed with Last Starfighter.
The 2nd episode is where it begins to ReBoot. Megabyte's new voice actor, while not Tony Jay, does a decent job and they got the character right. It's probably the best episode for old ReBoot fans. We're just crossing our fingers that MB gets his revenge on the Sorcerer before the series dies.
The 10th episode.... it's a toughie. It is WONDERFUL to have the original character voices back! It also introduced a couple of interesting bits that can answer questions from the old series (Mainframe being an actual one, maybe it only had enough power to play one of these games at a time so the users had to wait in a 'use queue?' This would explain why sometimes the games would come down too quickly). That said, WHY is everything back to original character models? What about Hex's sacrifice in "Daemon Rising?" Why does 'Fan Boy' have all that ReBoot merch? Why the fuck is the CG so bad now (that's on a lot of CG cartoons, really)? And, most importantly, CAN I GET THAT MIKE THE TV PROP AFTER THE SERIES GETS CANCELED?
Micah Mcgaffin Daemon Rising and My Two Bobs were tv movies true but they were made to be split up into 4 episodes each and shown as season 4 here in the states.
my childhood cried....
My friend and I watched the first episode out of curiosity. Dead ass thought it was a Code Lyoko remake. I was so confused.
I wouldn't give this show 10 minutes of my time. I watched Reboot when it was on TV on the weekend morning years ago and thought it was GREAT! And they canceled it and I'm convinced it came out 10 years ahead of its time. I bet if they rebooted the original show and updated it - it'd rock.
I forgot about Zixx! Thanks for reminding me.
no prob!
The funny thing is Rainmaker and a few other companies worked on Zixx and it was the first to use a game engine for animation in a TV show.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zixx
So basically this show took a modified version of the teen titans go approach
I've seen Teen Titans Go mentioned a lot. Only ever saw the original. Wanna TLDR a guy up?
Bull Session basically the new one is the teen titans doing a bunch of stupid things by themselves, almost never doing anything super hero related, with the main cast being insults of the old characters, all for the sake of being kid friendly, probably kids 4 and under. Plus there is at least 3 episode written just to insult the fans of the original, probably more.
wow that sounds lame :/
I would say that Reboot is worse at least TTG kept the main characters instead of relegating them to cameos for vastly more generic power rangers rip-offs.
This show needs to be forgotten like it never happened or at the very least become a bad dream for one of the characters, then restart the show properly from the cliffhanger.
That would be fantastic.
The inserts from South Park and the original Transformers movie made my day!
It's a shitty version of Super Human Samurai Syber Squad, look it up... at least they had Matthew Lawrence
Yea, a lot of people are drawing comparisons there. I had never heard of it before this.
Micheal Stewart
And Tim Curry!
And somehow that's getting a more proper reboot...I think.
The show's name is Reboot but the the four main characters can't reboot.....Why!!!!
That's a very good point. I didn't even think of that.
I am 12 and my dad had me and my sibling watch the original show and it's a great show! I have great parents
That's awesome!
I saw the original show decades after it originally ended and even watching this show when it came out I felt like I lost several decades of my life.
Two decades later and the lip syncing is *worse* than it was in the original show.
I got a really bad wes craven "Deadly Friend" vibe from vera, and those tekken eyebrows. I do agree megabyte was surprisingly good but instead he is designated to conducting the situation of the day. Hacker man must of said impossible a dozen times. And really I think bob meeting the users would of initiated some conflict, like the game cubes have killed and destroyed their systems for pleasure and it's barely glanced over. well that's it it's dead.
Yea, you'd really think Bob would be a lot less friendly towards the merciless god figures who have been slaughtering his people for years.
Yeah...no. -_-
I kinda felt like a ton of Vera's lines sounded vaguely threatening.
Didn't even know that this was a thing.
On a completely unrelated note, I finally fully understand the saying: "Ignorance is bliss".
At least we got to see Bob again...ya so much for optimism
I wanna know why a game that would be played on such an old computer is in a box that looks like its from an xbox game, and hell the computer only has a 100mb Hard Drive and I'm supposed to believe it also had a cd-rom drive?
*and* also has DRM apparently.
I can do better than what they did with Reboot. Because I'm reviving Jurassic Park Chaos effect. But I'm plan on Chaos effect to not be part of Jurassic Park series but as it's own thing. I like the concept of the mutant hybrid dinosaurs but I think it will be better as it own thing so it can have room to grow.
You know, that's actually *almost* what Jurassic World was? The original pitch for Jurassic Park 4 was Dino-human hybrids.
I know about that but Chaos effect was in the 90's and suppose to have it's own cartoon czcams.com/video/vud5f5gs36M/video.html
oh wow, I don't remember this at all. Cool!
because I see potential in somethings
I was unaware that this show existed. I will continue to believe that.
That's a good strategy. They say ignorance is bliss after all.
As a reboot lover, I understand the pain dragon ball fans felt over dragonball evolution
It feels like a Power Rangers Reboot... Literally.
KingDrewski9000 looks to me like someone on the writing staff saw too many episodes of VR troopers...
Mark Rance
And not enough episodes of the *real* ReBoot!
they don't know how to use Maya
The best part about Reboot The Guardian Code was this review.
D'awww shucks... thank you!
Thank you, good sir. You have spared me the horrors of watching this show.
As a Reboot fan, I needed to know, but did not have the bravery you've shown here.
I will, however, hold my breath and watch Episode 10 just to see the old cast again.
You're welcome. It wasn't much fun haha
DRM in 1994 existed, and it was every bit as annoying as you've described, having to have specific disks etc.
Oh why oh why!
REJECT!
Hexadecimal's virus face moves near end of season 3 and toward season 4 before she turns into a sprite and it was because Bob fixed a crack on Hex's face and removed her insanity. I don't know if RainMaker thought about the ending of that third season from Mainframe Entertainment or reminding the audience of the time Hex became a good person when she was cured to bring this back into the fold in the final episode of season 1.
I am pretty sure RainMaker bought Mainframe Entertainment (I don't think it was RainMaker before it was bought) and since it is no longer Mainframe Entertainment, decided to make a television show based on the original show just to cause tension and hatred toward the entire franchise that happened those years ago.
What would be more interesting than this Guardian Code? How about a remake of the entire Reboot seasons (all four) or at least a brand new show, this time with a user who apparently gets sucked into a computer into the World of Mainframe (like a lightning storm), gets confused when he enters the computer, binomes and sprites initially thinks of him as a threat (as a callback from season three System Crash episode), and it takes the entire seasons to a bit of a change than the original for him to find a way to leave the system to get back into the real world because he doesn't belong there. What's worse is that Megabyte learns about the user inside the system and takes advantage of the situation by preventing him from leaving the system and trying to make him his puppet because he learns that users are very powerful. The user eventually gets help from the binomes, Dot, Enzo, AndrAIa, Frisket, and little Enzo and experiences everything that happens in a computer and when he leaves, he gets amnesia that makes him forget everything that happened while he was inside. Custom created without any use of other franchises. Either that or season five where it shows what happened after Megabyte "WON" after capturing the Principal Office.
Reboot was such a great pop culture show I am so sad at what they did to a classic that was so ahead of its time.
