Sweet interaction between Gerard Way and father of a teenage fan

- At NC Comicon the floor was opened up to questions and an incredibly sweet father, Kevin Hawkins, spoke up to tell Gerard how his work has had a positive effect on his daughter, Lauren who also struggles with mental health.
That eye contact, dad to dad. He was touched. If you know anything about Gerard. You can see see he obviously has heard this before but happy he’s still having that effect on others.

Well, I think this is kinda new to him. I think mostly its the kids/fans personally who tells him these things, but this time it's from another point of view, from a fathers.point of view. I wish my dad could see what various artists or bands have done for me over the years.

I met them for my make a wish. The most beautiful and kind men I ever met. All of them (didn't get to meet bob). I will forever be changed by this interaction. They sung two songs to me. Summertime. Bulletproof heart (in my top 3). Though they can sing them to anyone, based on tome spent with me and our conversations, 9 years later, it still forms me each day. I'm thankful to them to be alive. I'm thankful mcr created music to live by.

God I broke down in tears. Everything that his daughter went through I did too. I have struggle with daily headaches as well. Gerard got me through so much and I can’t thank him enough. I am lucky enough to go to the reunion show in LA. I’m so happy the band that saved my life is together again and I get to witness them live. Thank you to Gerard and the rest of the band for being such amazing people. They truly save so many lives

I think people misunderstand his psychology here. He isn't annoyed or bothered. He probably feels awkward having such a pure and touching moment be televized, when that is something more intimate, and he might not know how to react. When you have really bad social anxiety and depression, you hear good you've done and your brain immediately says it's wrong, and you shutdown. But he's fighting through it to try to share the moment with the father, because he knows it's a really heavy one.
He isn't being aloof, I would say. He's just not sure how to handle such a heavy moment. He still struggles like he always has, you know. He has just gotten better, but that doesn't mean it doesn't still eat at you.

I got depression and anxiety attacks, whilst in boarding school and Gerard and his music was one of the people who helped me not to get worse than I am right now. And I wish I could thank him in person for possibly saving my life.

I recently discovered MCR music and the story of Gerard as he went through his struggles. What this gentleman has gone through and how he succeeded is truly amazing and unique. You sir not only saved yourself but also saved so many countless other souls along the way.
Your actions ha e not gone unnoticed.
The whole band helped me through some things. The personalities and the fact that they were willing to be themselves loudly and unedited helped me do the same. Then after they moved on all have gone on to do other things, showing that you can live through major change gracefully, that people can have more than one talent.
gerard connects to peoples emotion and has deep empathy towards others. he admitted that in an interview. what a beautiful soul 💖💖💖

Gerard was this person for me too when I was a teenager. I was going through some awful times in my life and MCR's music really got me through each day. That dad gave Gerard a message that many people would love to give to him. Thank you so much for that.

My very first concert was a My Chemical Romance concert about 14 years ago. My parents bought the tickets and let me bring a friend. We were both HUGE fans and still are to this day. I will never forget how supportive my parents were with my music taste and interests. This band got me through my childhood traumas and foster care and I continue to blast their music in my adult years. I cannot thank them enough for sharing themselves with the world giving us fans a creative outlet like no other ❤️❤️❤️
I’m not a fan of his music just by matter of my opinion, but I know Gerard is a great guy with beautiful intents despite his own personal struggles. Much respect and love for the guy.

I almost cried, this was amazing
I was 24 in 2005 when I took my sister to the Warped Tour for her 16th birthday. We went to the front of the stage where MCR would play early on (they had hardcore fans back then, but they weren’t the attraction at all, they played very early, one of the first bands). The band came out and Gerard said “Ladies, if anyone tells you to lift up your shirt, tell them EFF YOU!” And then they went straight to performing. I’ll never forget that, there is so much groping and violating behavior at these festivals it was so great to hear MCR promote that message.
And I tried to post this comment but it disappeared because I said the full word and not eff. So he didn’t say eff. He said the F bomb.

As a male teenage fan, his songs also helped in some of my worst days that might be more worse. His music helped me to relate and understand that it's not only books and school life but there's a world outside of that. And understand things from others perspective and the value of literature and the people who teach this subject
