CentOS 7 is very close to EOL, so I think we can expect explosion of systems migrating from CentOS to Alma

Looks like those 4 clusters mentioned in the video first came out on the top500 list with Almalinux in June 2022. There was a blog post on almalinux website about it.

Yes, I came across this blog post too when doing research for this video. It’s just the ranking that has changed.

Thanks for the video! Do you know why they prefer Alma Linux instead of Rocky Linux? I know both of them are RHEL based, but I don't know why you would prefer one over the other.

Even I had the same question 😅 but since both are RHEL-derived there is no difference technically and indeed there are some clusters in top500 as of June 2024 which run on Rocky linux. Apparently, it is just a matter of taste when you see it technically 😊
However, Almalinux community has actively participated and engaged with its HPC users unlike Rockylinux community. They have recently announced an HPC and AI SIG which I haven't found in Rockylinux community (yet).

Thank you for providing this observation:)👍

@Adrian-ql5yz and @pranaypallavtripathi2460 Those four clusters specifically are manufactured by MEGWARE, which seems to have partnered with AlmaLinux (AL). That's another reason why these four migrated to AL. But at least 5 clusters in Canada that have not been manufactured by MEGWARE still chose AL. So, you have a point with your observation!

@@juliaifrank and @pranaypallavtripathi2460 I see. Thanks for the explanation! I was curious about it and didn't know where to look for more information.
