  • In freakin' avocado green!!! OEMed by Whirlpool, this vacuum definitely lives up to its title of Sears Best.

Avocado green and woodgrain... what better way to say early 1970s ??
That was hilarious when you included the clip from Shango. I watched that TV resurrection video when he stated "Daddy Bear puts it in the dishwasher and it comes out looking like brand new". I burst out laughing, because it is the truth. Never would have considered putting electronics or motors inside a dishwasher like you do, until I saw the results... amazing !!

That's a unique looking vacuum! Funny how we sometimes make fun of stuff that's made of plastic, but vintage plastic is nothing like the stuff we have now that gets all crumbly after a few years.

This was the first and best vacuum I ever owned! The next vacuum was also a Kenmore. That one just passed on. Lot of years between them. From 1975 to present day, only 2 vacuums! I’m about to buy my third.

Spats Bear I have this same exact model only in the two tone blue and it is a dynamite machine!!! I love the power it has and the 9 foot hose as well... I had gotten it off of E-bay from an estate sale and it was hardly used, when I opened the box it looked like brand new!!! I use it twice a week and simply love it!!!

Dang! It's like the Wagon Queen Family Truckster vacuum cleaner. Avacado green _with_ woodgrain! Noice!
Family had a blue Sears canister vaccy in the '80s with the 'Magicord' spring-loaded reel.

Avocado green + faux wood grain = always a good combination! What you said about modern vacuums with a screaming 12 amp motor is true. I bought a bagged Dirt Devil Featherlite back in fall of 2006, and that thing would scream when it was on! My parents had my 1989 Kirby Legend II that my mom's friend was throwing out in the summer of 2005, and they were using it until 2010, when I got it. I also have a 1998 Hoover Elite I bought from the local Goodwill, and I also have a 1989 Hoover Concept One I found at Habitat for $5. I mainly use the Concept One because it has the "Quadraflex Agitator", which I think is the best brushroll design ever made!
Dyson and all those other bagless vacuums are notorious for throwing dust back into the air when emptying them, so I like to stick with bags instead.
Lamb Electric is owned by Ametek now, and I find their vacuum motors in lots of commercial floor care stuff, such as floor scrubbers, wet extraction carpet cleaners, wet vacs, and many commercial vacuum cleaners.

Try out a modern Kenmore Elite, either the 700 Series or 800 Series. They have a 600 air watt motor that I guarantee will impress you. I love all things Kenmore and have a genuine fondness for this era of Kenmore canisters but the Elite is special. Can't argue with the power though. I have been running one for 12-13 years now, since they first came out and non problems. The motors in them are solid. I have used Kenmore branded Style Q synthetic bags in it since new and the bag chamber is still nice and clean. Great vacuum and durable.

My Grandmother had a similar vacuum, in light blue, up until 1989. Replaced with a Hoover Concept 2. Hers didn't have the tool caddy, but once you removed it, I thought OMG I remember that four ring logo! I remember she once had to get a replacement power head in tan, to replace the original blue one. Very cool to see this! I remember her vacuuming this house with it so many times. I hope you find the missing/damaged accessories! Thanks for sharing, this really brought back some good childhood memories for me.

When 16 was actually the department number for Sears. Almost every single Sears Kenmore vacuum cleaner starts with 116. Elecktronicks where 61 which is why Sears branded their Electronic's brand LXI. LSI is the Roman numerals for 61.

My parents had this vacuum. Unfortunately they sold it at a yard sale even after I explicitly told them I wanted it 🤬
Btw, that tool caddy can be stored inside the case on top of the bag compartment (iirc it can also be operated with it inside as well).
Also that vent to the left of the blower port originally had a block of sound dampening foam that dryrots to the point where it disintegrates just from looking at it wrong. If so Inclined for authenticity, it be replaced with cheap aquarium foam cut to size.

After Whirlpool stopped making vacuums Panasonic Continue to make Kenmore vacuum cleaners for Sears. Unfortunately Panasonic sold their vacuum division to a company in Hong-Kong which has recently acquired Suffered the Kenmore floor care division. Only the Kenmore elite upright and canister are still left over Panasonic designed machines. I believe everything else is not.

    • @philsalvatore3902
      @philsalvatore3902 Před rokem

Not Hong Kong. Panasonic passed the baton to Suzhou Cleva Electric Appliance Co Ltd of Suzhou China, about an hour and a quarter drive from Shanghai along the shore of Lake Tai. It is actually a resort area. I've had lunch there at a nice lakeshore restaurant and taken a boat ride to see some of the old shrines on the lake. Some family members are buried near the lake. I will probably never visit there again unless there is a revolution and the communist party is thrown out.
Suzhou Cleva was an established supplier of Craftsman shop vacs in addition to their own Vacmaster brand so it was a natural transition for them to make Kenmore vacuums. While I am harshly critical of their government and their trade policies I will admit that if anything Suzhou Cleva has improved Kenmore vacuums. The power nozzle wheels are now on steel axles and don't fall off ( yay !) (btw, that new base can replace the old base when the snap on wheels finally fall off) and there are improvements in motor sealing. The bag chamber lids don't flex inwards like the lids on these old square 1970s Kennys do. They still use steel wands in a world where even Aerus uses plastic wands. For the price they are still hard to beat.

@@larrylaffer3246 Kenmore rides herd on their suppliers. Kenmore doesn't actually manufacture anything. They contract with appliance makers to make appliances to their specifications. If you look at the model number on every Kenmore appliance and Craftsman power tools, the first three digits before the period are the manufacturers code. Kenmore works with the manufacturer on the eventual design of the appliances that carry the Kenmore brand and they seem even today to still care about quality.

I have one just like this. I bought it right after I got married in 74. It works perfectly and I've used it constantly. only problem that I have now is the bearings for the beater bar. When the belts break because something gets stuck, like a string or a piece of carpet, I have to pull out the beater bar to put on a new belt. Doing that enough times over the years has messed up little square pieces that are on the end of the beater bar. Trying to find those two square pieces some more belts and a thing that's called a bearing that's on the end of the beater bar. If anyone knows where I can find the parts? I have the part numbers. Please let me know I really love this vacuum. Also all the parts are on there except for one it was for cleaning clothes that had a brush that spins. And the two covers that go over the small and large attachments for cleaning the floor. So it looks like Lamb's wool cover to keep from scratching things

so if you went into Sears in 1975 and bought this it was over $1100. That would be like buying a Sebo or Miele today....I wonder if, back then, what were considered TOL vacuums...example, instead of going to a big box store in 1975... you went to a vacuum shop... I wonder if then the prices in a vacuum shop for a vacuum may have been more than $2000

Electrolux, Royal, Kirby, Rainbow, Filter Queen, Compact (later Tristar), Airway Sanitizor and Fairfax would have been the top of the line metal bodied last a lifetime and pass it on to the kids vacuums. Kenmore was affordable quality a very small step down from the all metal machines with better features than GE/Premier and Hoover had at the time and in some cases better features than some of those metal bodied machines had like direct connect hoses (no pig tail cords from the hose to the canister or to the power nozzle) and better power nozzles than most.

@@kennyloveland1267 When that is the case, we *DO.* As shown in other videos. We grease and service ball bearings as well. This Ametek Lamb motor on this canister has a sleeve bearing and a sealed ball bearing. The sealed bearing is due to its air-through design, If we can pop the seal to clean and then re-grease it afterwards, we will. If we can't get it off, it's sealed enough against water intrusion. If it's too gummed up AND too sealed, we replace it. We've been doing this for decades, we're not some CZcamsr kids randomly throwing things into Mom's dishwasher.
