- Taurine is an essential amino acid for babies. Adults can make their own taurine, but there are high amounts of it in meat and fish. Taurine has many functions in the body including working as a neurotransmitter in the brain.
In this video, Fiona Chin and Emily Cahill explore the various aspects of Taurine definition, the mechanism of action of taurine in kidney disease, and also explain how it can improve kidney function and protect against kidney damage.
Firstly, Emily discusses the connection between taurine and diabetes, highlighting how taurine can improve insulin sensitivity, reduce inflammation, and lower oxidative stress in individuals with diabetes and kidney disease.
Moving on they talk about the potential consequences of low taurine levels, including impaired kidney function and a higher risk of developing kidney disease. She then covers the causes of taurine deficiency, such as a poor diet, chronic illness, or medication use.
In addition, Emily discusses natural sources of taurine such as seafood, meat, and dairy products, and its potential drug interactions. She also mentions its use in alleviating hot flushes
Overall, Emily Cahill provides a valuable overview of taurine's potential benefits for individuals with kidney disease. It's a must-watch for anyone looking to optimize their kidney health and improve their quality of life.

I was diagnosed with left ventricular cardiomyopathy . I started to take Tauine and L carnosine supplements together with Magnesium, and that really helped me with cardiomyopathy symptoms

Taurine, Glycine, Magnesium, Zinc, Berberine, Ceylon Cinnamon, and Ashwaganha.
Mine is Taurine, Magnesium, NAC, Glycine, Ashwagandha, Apigenin and Luteolin.
I've read taking zinc, magnesium and melatonin together before bed helps with insomnia.
I'll try the ceylon cinnamon before bed, thanks.
Are all these safe for someone with kidney disease?
Magnesium and Zinc can compete with each other for absorption in the body. When taken together in high doses, they may interfere with each other's absorption. It is generally recommended to space out the intake of these minerals if taking them as supplements to ensure optimal absorption by the body.
Makes me feel mellow and sane.
Better sleep.
Amazing stuff !!!
Thanks! :-)
Life saving information thank you
You are so welcome :-)
Excellent video by extremely competent presenters.
Thank you :-)
Wonderful content. Thank you. The recent (July) Science paper on Taurine and conservation of muscle into old age would be interesting if you were to review.
Its a great study I have seen it. Conserving muscle mass as we get older is key in preventing a lot of degenerative diseases as well as staying younger for longer. I will add it to the list of videos to do. :-)
Could you do a video discussing the role of nad+ levels, supplementation with NMN and NR, and CKD. Thank you.
Taurine increases NAD+ levels
They totally missed out on the role of Taurine in following: 1) Bile salt synthesis 2) Liver & gall bladder health 3) glutamate regulation 4) libido & sperm uptick 4) bone & teeth health & tracecmineral uptake 5) Synergy with zinc and zinc absorption
My favourite amino acids are Taurine & Glycine. Taurine gives me energy boost & Glycine relaxes me.

I have used taurine for tinnitus 1000mg 2x daily and cut sugar

Hi Monica, did the taurine help your tinnitus, please let us know❤
I'm reading it can have helpful effect on stem cells and telomeres.
Sure can
Had a urinary test done to check all neurotransmitters which showed very high taurine levels and I only took 1,000 mg a day in the morning (but not for 3 days prior to test along with other foods that needed to be eliminated before freezing the urine for send off) because I felt like it kept my heart in rhythm. After the test I cut it out totally and now several months later my heart is jumping all over the place, my blood pressure is up😮 and so is my blood sugar, so contrary to the results of the test I am going back on a capsule of 1000 mg of taurine per day after listening to your podcast 😊 Do you know if a.m. urine is an accurate way to test your taurine levels and how they interact with your other neurotransmitters?
That is a great question. Urine will show what your body is expelling from its system, so it may not be 100% accurate as to the actual levels IN your body, but rather the pathways that are mobilising and using it. You could either be expelling taurine faster and more than your body needs resulting in a taurine deficiency. I think the best way would be to test blood and plasma levels of taurine. There is a test for that but I am not sure if it can be done via insurance and you may need your GP to write a special test out to have it done. That way you would know your actual levels in the blood / plasma VS how your body is expelling it.pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2403070/
Serum levels/urine/ blood do little to give you a comprehensive view. They only tell you what currently circulating in your system in the last few days. You have to go to the cellular level
@@titaniummaster1532and how would I do that? I know insurance won't pay I didn't even try to submit neurotransmitter test.
@@l.c.345 let me check on that for you
First do Keto diet with IF . Mere supplementation is not sustainable way to improve and stabililse your health
I watched the author of the June Taurine paper and he said people with CKD had high Taurine levels because the Taurine in their system (from food) was not being extracted. I interpreted this to mean that those with CKD should not take Taurine supplements - Am I wrong?
Taurine is well indicated for kidney disease unless they are end stage - so stages 5. Then you need to check levels first before supplementation. It is a bit like magnesium and some of the other nutrients that the kidneys fail to clear but only in end stage renal failure. AND I would 100% avoid drinking things that have taurine fortified in them if you have any stages of renal disease, as these are usually in energy drinks and they are very bad for kidney function due to all the other ingredients in them, not just the taurine. So your question is specific to end stage renal failure only. :-)
Not one study was cited nor included in the description that validates any of these statements
There are so many studies on Taurine - maybe this post will help which has some links to studies in it. If you want specific studies let me know and I will give you the links. Or a simple search in Pubmed will also give you a plethora of studies on Taurine - www.kidneycoach.com/associated-conditions/taurine-and-its-role-in-chronic-renal-disease/
Is it helpful for thyroid
I would like to know if a person had high blood pressure and was taking medication for it, for some reason had to stop the medication because her blood pressure went very low. Would it lower the blood pressure even more if she started taking taurine?.
Taurine can lower blood pressure, yes. It is one to monitor closely. That been said I have low BP naturally and take taurine and it hasnt made mine go lower. It seems to work more if blood pressure ie elevated via the sympathetic nervous system feedback loop with the kidneys to lower BP.
BP meds can remove magnesium, potassium and other nutrients that you body needs to keep it in normal range. If your doctor isn't a pill pusher, you should discuss other alternatives
It's good to see that other recognize these unique healthy things, I thought I was the only one(others trolling or telling myths that it's bull urine 😂 instead of researching its importance for our body).
It's an amazing very healthy molecule, a supplement everyone should use, it's very cheap aswell! My mothers bloodpressure stabilazed when she started to supplement it, and she doesn't need her bloodpressure meds anymore and her bloodpressure is normal.
It even works against anxiety, depression etc. It makes caffienated drinks(Teas, coffee etc) a lot more tolarable without jitters.
Been using it for many years (with breaks now and then) and I feel that it really helps me staying healthy and helps my mental issues and stress. It protects a lot in our organism and the liver aswell.
Protip; do not obtain it from evergydrinks since they(99%) are bad for your health and the sugarfree even worse. I buy 500g pure taurine for 15-20 USD, it lasts like a year and it tastes like nothing. Put it in yerba mate or black/green = healthy evergydrink.
Thanks Dimitri, glad you enjoyed the info and have had great results with it yourself. :-)

QUESTION: Why would drinking milk induce a mild depression after approximately 24 hours?
What is being depleted in the body as a result of drinking milk, that may be related to depression?
May be the clearance of milk opioids
Could also be a food sensitivity to the proteins in milk causing a rise in cortisol and effecting your microbiome and serotonin production.
It has taken nearly 40 years to determine the cause by process of elimination. But I would love to find a remedy that would allow me to drink milk.

I've always bought taurine powder for my cats when I make some homemade raw food for them. Didn't consider if it had much benefit for humans since humans make it and cats need it in their food. But now I'm giving it a try to see if it works. With diabetes and kidney disease so common in cats these days, I wonder if they are getting enough? I can start adding a little extra to their commercial brand foods as well.

How lipids are effected with Taurine use. Anyone dealt with lipids ?
What is the effect of Taurine on Polycystic kidney disease????????
I will need to go digging for studies, but since hypertension is such a common side effect of PKD and taurine is so great at reducing BP especially inside the kidney tissue I suspect it would be useful. That being said it is not one of the first nutrients I think of when I am treating PKD. www.kidneycoach.com/associated-conditions/taurine-and-its-role-in-chronic-renal-disease/
Would it be a good idea to take it with stage 4 kidney disease?
You can run a test first to make sure you dont have high taurine levels and go from there. But yes we have a lot of stage 4 CKD using taurine, especially if elevated BP is an issue. Always check with your health care provider first before adding in any new supplements.
@@KidneyCoach thank you!

Absolutely, just check it doesn't interfere with any other medications that you are on.
Taurine is also the antidote to MSG.
Some interesting information. 😅 There is no such word as “ dosaging “.
Also, we would not be recommending that people take 6 Grams of a single amino acid. Especially not people with kidney disease. But maybe you know something we don’t. 🤔
Things change, it’s inevitable. Language especially, especially English.
Dosaging surely is an acceptable word since now that men can get pregnant.
Does taurine help with diabetes type 1 or 2 ??
Yes it will help with both.
Is it safe to snort, smoke and inject ? What route gives best results, does anybody know ?
Powder dissolved in liquid is the best form to take taurine. It isnt one that you would inject, smoke or snort. It needs to go through the intestines for absorption.
@@KidneyCoach haha I was kidding. Yea I put some in my cats wet food and I drop powder in my drinks also, and glycine.

Is it safe to take taurine while having kidney disease
Yes there is a lot of good information on taurine and how it support kidney health
Since Taurine is originally created by the body, does that mean when supplementing, our body becomes lazy in producing it and supplementation becomes necessary?
Not exactly. The body just regulates how much, so it you take in excessive amounts it wont produce as much, if you reduce intake it starts making it again. The problem can be some SNPs and genetics can mean we produce less taurine, or certain health conditions and diseases require more of it, which is where supplementing it can really help.
I have Hurd bad things about zink.
What is you are hypotensive already?
I have low blood pressure and still use Taurine, it hasn't made my blood pressure any lower. :-)
Taurine cured my anxiety by increasing GABA levels. Anxiety is caused by too much glutamine in brain.

Taurine increase estrogen in female body ?
Physionic did a review of a recent study "193" (czcams.com/video/PNJpM0ac0GU/video.html) that showed an association between higher taurine blood levels and worsening kidney problems in people who'd previously had kidney disease. The higher the taurine the worse the condition would become. This is worrying to see for someone with kidney issues who had hoped taurine might help. Can you comment on this please? Thank you.
I have just gone through the whole video and there is NO mention of kidney function in this video? Where did you pull that information from? They actually say how good taurine is for blood sugar control and Senescent cells, which contribute to kidney disease. If I missed it please let me know the time stamp where they talk about kidneys and taurine.

A few years ago, I read a study that Taurine causes pancreatic cancer. I cannot find the study unfortunately
If you had looked for taurines anticancer effects, you might have found something.
For example:
"taurine not only mitigates the side effects of chemotherapy in cancer but also possesses antitumor properties, including inhibiting cancer cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis in certain cancers by differential regulating proapoptotic and antiapoptotic proteins."
Actually, we know that taurine is beneficial for the pancreas.
