How to Separate Banana Pups from Banana Corm without Damaging the Parent Plant.
This video is to show you how to Separate the Baby 'Pup' from the Parent Corm or parent Plant.
If you've ever grown bananas then you've come to realize pretty quickly they are going to multiply...
This Video is meant to quickly show you just how easy it is to separate the banana pumps from Parent Corm or parent Plant. Separating Banana pups can be easy and rewarding, by separating Banana pips you can multiply your Banana Plants, add them to your permaculture food forest or landscaping. you could also give pups away to friends and neighbors or just pot them and sell some.
There are two types of Banana Pups, one is called a Sword Sucker and the other a Water Sucker. The Sward Sucker has a larger root and the Water Sucker has a smaller root. Both will grow into banana plants if separated correctly and grow into adult Banana Plant, bare fruit and start to have pups as well.
A Water sucker looks more like a midget plant that has wider leaves that are not pointed at the tips and are said to be a small fruit bearer and a weaker plant. A Sword sucker has thin pointy leaves and is said to be what you should save for propagation or as a replacement for the parent plant.
I always leave one Sword sucker attached to the Parent plant because after your plant bears fruit, you will need to cut it down, and if you left one Sword sucker growing that will be the replacement plant that will grow in its place and bear fruit as well.
when I separate my Banana Pups I like to get nice roots when separating them, more roots allow for your Banana plant to drink more water. for you to get some roots each and every time you separate any pups, Try this:
When I separate the pups, I first remove some topsoil from around the base so that I can see where the pups are connected to the parent plants corm, then once I see where they are joined, I can cut and get all the roots out along with the pup and not cut into the parents corm.
When you separate the pups, you should either pot them or plant them right away, in good manure soil then water therapy and fertilize.
Note Banana plants like lots of water and fertilizer, so make sure you water regularly and fertilize often.

Thank you for the quality video! I have a dwarf ice cream banana that has a pup that’s getting stealthier and stealthier. I don’t see/think a second pup will grow since the parent is over 2 years old. Since I only have one pup do I keep it and wait for the parent to fruit, chop the parent after harvest and leave the pup to grow? Or should I separate and repot the pup now? #Floridagarden

there is no need to separate the pup. just let it do its own thing.
