Rustic Prohibition Crates - Making Props For a Party

- A good friend of mine has a sister that likes to throw parties. I made these liquor crates for an upcoming event. The theme is inspired by "1920s Great Gatsby."
The label on the crates is totally fictitious. I upcycled old boards from a barn roof. The black paint on the boards is tar from fastening the bitumen roofing felt.

I've been looking for a good way to make an army style supply crate out of pallets and I think the way you've constructed this crate is just about what I was looking for!
Hello sir,
I wanted to let you know that I have probably seen every wooden crate video on CZcams and I really find that this design is by far the best. I did however use screws instead of nails.
I make these for presents, furniture, bedside tables, and I just recently finished my bedroom closet and I have these all stacked up. Looks great. Every time people come over they’re always impressed with the boxes and they ask where I bought them. On shelves i treat the wood with a beeswax and the slide so nice.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your work. Have a nice day
Adding the branding at the end really made it look authentic 😊
By far the most efficient simplest economical way to build a great box. Thank you for your time and effort. . Actually these boxes could be stacked, the bottom runners should fit into the the top of the box it is seated on pretty much exactly. And your bird nesting boxes are rippers.
What a great video, thank you for sharing. It's inspired me to go and have a go myself. Thanks again for sharing.
This is a great woodworking book, t.co/z6o0f8z2H4 . I took several classes as well as completed a one year diploma in carpentry at a local tech college; this is better than any book I worked out of during those lessons. It includes helpful pictures and goes over just about everything.?
INCREDIBLE !!!! That is some class at work there!
super cool crates, love how much the patina of the wood adds. Great video and edit too.
Probably more than 80 years since this wood was cut. Glad you like the video!
Very clever idea making the base ‘inside out’ then flipping it 👍👍
Fricking pure awesomeness ! Wow !
Those are so awesome looking! Great job bud!👍🏽
Very nice looking wooden crates.
Cheers

That must have been one hell of a party!
These look great!
Gorgeous!!!
Great video. Looks really authentic
love these!
Simple but really nice crates !!!👍
I would love to have plans to make these. awesome job
Thanks for the idea. The crate I made is an olde time "Miller High Life" bottle case. It holds a case of bottled beer & will use it for a party beer cooler.
Nice build enjoyed the video, thanks for posting
Great video and those crates would make great storage in the garage. I have a number of wooden wine cases which makes me look very cultured but I don't let on I found them in a skip. A big thumbs up.
Thanks for the comment!
Awesome, realy easy, old style and beauty....!!!
Regards and best wishes from Copiapó, Chile.
Great RetroBox!
Another great video!
I really like those, thanks
Love it!!!! Thanks for idea ;)
Hey Finn it maybe none of my business but I was wondering why you stopped uploading videos, you really have some great DIY content. It's your business I was just wondering
Beautifully done, I love seeing craftmanship at work! It's quite soothing for me for some reason.
I know that soothing effect. Happy if I can provide that for someone too!
Nice job, they look pretty authentic. cutting the stencil looks like the most difficult part of this build.
Such a beautiful end result. And much kudos on reusing old roofing boards! Recycling takes a lot of effort but patina like that can't be bought at the hardware store :)
Yes, sometimes time is the best finish for wood. I didn't even coat these with any lacquer, varnish etc.
Really beautiful
Very nice job, Thanks !
Those crates looks stunning,mate.well done.Cheers!!
Thanks mate, cheers!
Nice job Buddy. Thanks.
Beautiful work as always. You make this look so easy.
Thanks. I found the only remotely challenging part was cutting out the template for the text.
yeah that can get really tedious
Felicitaciones Finncrafted muy inspirador !!!!!
Kiitos!
Great work!
Thank you .
love from 🇮🇩
I just watched your whole playlist over the last few days. Its a shame you stopped. I hope things went well with whatever you did instead.
I always forget how nice clamps are to have around

Like that a lot
Ah now I know how I shall build a crate for my hobo cart out of palettes.
without doubt...THIS MUST BE IZZY SWAN´S APPRENTICE!!!!!
Love it
perfeito!!! show....
Bruto e rústico 👊🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Genial ! Hello from france
Great vid mate
Super excellent :-)
Great!!
This is so cool. I wish I had the materials to make this.. I want this box!!! Lol If someone cut the pieces for me, you make it look so easy, I feel like I could do it.
Go into a city and look for random palettes laying around and you will just need nails and a hammer then.
Simple &nice.
Heloo from Malaysia
Looks great, NICE job!!
I needed this for storage crates in the garage. Thanks!
A less time consuming way to transfer print onto wood would be to print in mirror version onto wax or parchment paper then smooth on.
Toner transfer method would have been my first choice, but I don't have a laser printer.
Man those are beautiful but instead of paint I'd use stencils and a wood burning pen
Nice job, nice video editing. Well done
Thank you!
Very cool
Remember when you used to make videos, yeah that was cool.
Built like little tanks just like they used to do it back then. Nowadays things fall apart if you just look at them too hard haha!
greaat ♥
que gran pasiencia para recortar ese molde
MUHTEŞEM!
very good.
Very nice
Good Job
Hi finncrafted nice rustic crates! They look good! Small little mini tip, if you back out the hole saw in between drilling; this will clear the dust or chips and might drill a bit faster or less pressure. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks. Yes i know, but in some woods you have to do it so often that it can become a drag. Forstner bit would have been better but the hole saw was closer at hand.
Oh yeah i can imagine that
N I C E .
Cool
How did you treat the freshly cut parts so that they wouldn't "stick out" compared to the older wood ?
Like e inscrito 👏🇧🇷
hi there any measurements plz ??
👍👍👍👍
Those came so cool! Did Finland ever have prohibition?
Yes, 1919-1932, with extremely poor results :D Moonshining, smuggling and bootlegging skyrocketed. That era has given birth to many legends about famous smugglers. Seems like keeping Finns from the bottle can be an impossible task.
eic stuff!
Very cool! Does anyone know how they did this in the late 1800's to around the 1920's? Nobody seems to know! I'm guessing they made metal stencils and burned it onto/into the wood.
What is the measurements for this project?
Air driven hammer in fast forward
You had me doing a WTF when you built the bottom inside out. ANOTHER GOOD JOB!
BTW, where's my invite?
I figured you wouldn't be interested since it's a prohibition party... might be short on booze, who knows ;) Thanks for watching!
Tilatttu!
wow, great idea, what font did you use ?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
guay!!
Hauska idea!
Kiitos!
Please come back! All is forgiven.
This is cool, but I would like the measurements of the boards and what size to cut them to, so I can build it myself.
What were those boards from originally? looks good
Hammering a nail into a board, inside a box... I'll be danged if that isn't the hardest way to do that one...
Hienot laatikot tuli.
Haittapuolena kaikki se hiekka mikä tuli kattohuovan mukana. Näitä lautoja ei halua edes näyttää oikotasohöylälle. Kiitos katselusta.
Joo. Siinä tulisi laudalle hyvä metrihinta kun joutuisi teriä kovin uusimaan. Mutta toimii nuo käsityökalutkin näemmä.
Where are you my friend?
