The Scion brand was targeted towards millennial first time car buyers, and fittingly crashed and burned in spectacular fashion. The Scion xB is probably the most memorable model due to its bizarre styling. This thing is a box. There's nothing else to say about it, it's a Corolla if a Corolla was a refrigerator box on wheels. I've always liked these. They came out when I was in high school and even though I shit talked it all the time, I secretly liked the vibe but was ashamed of my closeted weeb ways. These days, anything different- anything that catches your eye in a sea of white or silver "crossover SUV" butt plugs on wheels deserves some form of respect just for breaking up the monotony.

A Company I used to work for used these as delivery vehicles. Every time I got in one I was amazed at how much room there was inside them, because they look so small from the outside.😂

There's this kid that lives next door to my workplace with one and watching the kid doing maintenance to it in his gram's backyard is one of the most wholesome things ever, kid also bought a fucking squarebody suburban recently too for some reason.
I got in a head-on collision in my xb, and I'm still but hurt. By far, my favorite car I've ever owned. Definitely not the fastest but reliable. I'm always looking for another.

There is a tach guys. Also first gen is based on the echo, not Corolla. Second is more Corolla based.
After a lifetime of driving high maintenance euro tuner cars I have one of these and it's great it never breaks and it's really simple to mod. Especially with a 3d printer you can go nuts on the customization.

I got one of these for my mom because she's 55 and had a hard time getting in and out of her old POS (2001 Saturn SL2). She loves how much space there is inside and how its like stepping into an SUV/Crossover but not so huge. Really nice how all the seats fold down and you can nearly fit a whole mattress inside.
It's a 2010 2nd gen with 141k and in the 2 years and 12k miles we've had it all its needed was a battery, alternator and serpentine belt. Putting on a new set of tires and new pads + rotors tomorrow too. Got a full set of 80% tread Michelin pilot sports, already mounted amd balanced, off a BRZ from Marketplace for $200 lol. Thinking of getting the rear roof spoiler, all the riced out ones I see around here have them and it helps balance out the shape.
Maybe I'm spoiled by my E38 but driving this thing sounds like a tuna can with all the road noise that comes in and the sound of the doors closing. The throttle is really sensitive too. Only complaints I have though.
As a 1st gen Scion xB owner... I am a drummer that hauls their massive drumset gig to gig (ARCHAEL atmospheric black/deathmetal) lmmfao! The love for my xB has grown (owner since 2013) to the point of naming it the DEATHbX, and then I got bit by the modification bug. Long story short, we're now just about fully gutted with a baby Greddy turbo under the hood because we're now in our track x/auto x phase 🤘💀 📦🔰🐌🏁
I've always liked boxy shit, but I was in my 20s when these came out and I hated on em until I got in one the first time. I could actually fuck wit the first gen. They look good when done right.
Bought an xB that sat in a field for 3 years and shockingly it started and drove 150miles with just putting a battery and gas in it. Only had to replace every suspension component, all the brakes, front and rear bumpers and the exhaust but after it passed inspection without a hiccup, as to why well eastcoast rust. Did a extreme detail on it as the windows were partially open while it sat and it cleaned up great. I bought it just to take the rims for my Sambar (Japanese mini truck [spoiler rims didn't fit]) and I unironically enjoyed driving it around. It was surprisingly fun. I never would have thought to ever own one but aside from the restoration it was a fairly fun time. Still ended up selling it as it wasn't what I would normally drive but for the time I owned it it really was a fun time.

That guy needs $1500 of weed to come down off all the meth... My friend's brother did his new Tacoma even worse. We referred to it as Skeletor because the fenders and interior had been removed along with any suspension travel so he could race. After my friend rescued it we told people it was a "camera car". If only we'd had a "soon" sticker.
Used to see first gen XBs fairly often until one day they all magically disappeared off the face of the earth. Based on what I see in this video, it probably has something to do with each subsequent owner being a more avid meth enthusiast than the last. Looks like they quickly became tweaker shuttles after the college kids pawned them off.
When these were not really available in Canada yet we managed to get one on the lot somehow. Mph car so clearly it had come across. Hideously effeminate Purple. I sold it to a guy who was colorblind. He thought it was grey or something idk. We didn't correct him. I do not know if I should lose sleep over that. Good riddance at any rate. I mean, neat car, but not really a mover at the time. Nostalgia has changed the game a bit I think.
Scion IQ looks like it has a better approach and departure angle than a Wrangler Rubicon.
It would look good with a lift and UTV tires.
The instruments in the center of the dash theoretically allowed your eyes to focus faster between the gauges and the road. The added distance between you and the gauges allegedly makes a difference there.

The only people I see driving Scions are either old, obvious first buyers from 20 years ago or their 20 year old grandchildren.
My dad had one of these, it was an 03 automatic, and it was absolutely wonderful, it had so much space and it was so affordable at the time. I am strongly considering one, but I cannot find one in my area under $4K with less than 200K miles
FYI, In the xBs, they come with a tachometer on a manual and automatic.

I had an XA and put 250k miles on it. At the end of its life I pulled a uhaul trailer that weighed more than the car itself from Oregon to North Carolina and still got 27 mpg. I sold it after the trip and 2 weeks later someone t-boned it running a red light. I miss that car the greatest POS you can own.

But I'd rather have an Element any day. I loved mine when I had it, fold those rear seats up and it could haul a lot. Would have kept it but at 220k miles, rebuilt title, multiple large dents... it just wasn't worth putting more money into. Now the damg things seem to be going for absurd prices. X_X
Hehe, I bought mine in '06 and the engine still runs great, though I've had to replace a few parts when I crossed 200k a few months ago. I love it. Reliable, roomy and "strangely attractive". But I'm a nerd so you might have a point there.

The second version of the scion was best. The xB I mean. My dad had a 2005 xB in black back in the day and that thing hauled so many people. It also was very reliable. We used to take it on longg road trips
I bought a low mileage second gen xB for 10k have been daily driving it for 3 years . Awesome car fits six longboard skateboards in the back .

I owned an 06 for 9 years, put 145k on it. Lowest cost of ownership, most practical (for a vehicle of its size) I regretted having to trade it in, but the wife wanted a newer car and the Kia soul was the only similar option and I wasn't going to own a kia. She got a 2016 Corolla...a perfectly good but totally boring car. The high seats, center mounted speedo, rear seat big enough for 3 adults...it was great. I fit a snapper riding mower, dirt bikes, mopeds, 2x8 foot sheets of plywood. I think my wife picked the Corolla just so I couldn't use her car to haul stuff anymore. A 40k miles 1st gen was for sale near me for $9k...I would have bought it if I had the cash. I've owned 30+ vehicles but I owned the xb the longest, put the most miles and it was just a damn good car. Toyota really screwed the formula with the 2nd gen. To big, to rounded, the bigger motor got less mpg.

I hated these things when they first came out, but now I daily a first gen with a five speed. It's a ton of fun. I'm going to import a BB open deck in 2025 when it's legal.

Help from anyone please? I have a cosmetically beat up 05 XB… would it be cheaper to buy one that looks nice or to get a couple of small dents fixed, spoiler, door lock actuators, windows get stuck, new wheels, and a paint job on my current one? Ones in good condition (much nicer looking than mine) and a few more miles can be found around me in the $5k+ range.
Driving an xB feels like driving a box truck and despite the small engine it gets shit gas mileage. About as slow as the recent Mirages, they have a hard time getting out of their own way like they were designed for short distances around Osaka. It's funny when someone makes it look like a toaster with toast coming out the top.
I bought a 2006 one for my first car and it blew up a year later with almost 300k miles on the car.
It was fun while it lasted and made me love compact and weird looking cars more, just wish I had it longer :c
