Happy New Year! Thank you for all your support this year. See you in 2024
Ok not being able to show Goombas biting in their debut is obvious, but for them to take until 2023 to say "ok NOW we've achieved the tech!" Is kinda funny
That is funny 😂 I think it would make more sense if they said "we didn't really think to add that until now"
Shed a tear for all the Goombas sacrificed in the pursuit of knowledge.
Goombas were harmed during the making of this video
i fucked one gonna be dead honest
@@TheMentokNOOOOOOOOOOO
no one thinks about the minions anymore.
@@TheMentokSadge. 😔😔😔
I had an idea to call the Firework Bob-ombs Ooh-ombs or Ooh-aah's or something silly like that.
But someone gave me an even better idea. Pop-omb, since they're like little poppers.
The enemies in this game are really unique and really fun. I hope I see more of them in future mario games Impossibly A Mario movie sequel.
Yeah as much as I love the normal enemies (Goombas, Koopas etc) they were cooking with some of these new ones. So hopefully they build on what they made here
The blewbird having a nearly identical back to yoshi, as well as similar shoes, and the fact that dinosaurs are very closely related to birds make me think that yoshis and blewbirds might genuinely have been meant to be related
I’ve always wondered what the new firework enemies were called. If I had to give them a name, probably pop-up
I'm surprised it never got an English name up to this point. But it's cool to see all the suggestions people have come up with in the comments.
I named it a Firecracker
_"Remember, if you don't watch the Super Mario Bros Supershow, you're gonna turn into a Goomba!"_
Mario does turn into a Goomba in SMB Wonder. Well, well, well, how the turntables.
Mario doesn’t watch his own show. Sad!
I love that you include the names of the enemies in other languages!
Tausendschlänger is also a tripplepun.
Tausenfüßler is the german word for Centepide. So it hits the bugs.
Schlange is for Snake, obviously.
Schlänger is very simelar to Schläger, aka, a ruffian, someone who punches around.
Thanks for this! Makes a ton of sense, especially with the ruffian part. The wiki missed all these details.
Damn, really got give to the Germans and their wordplay
The Dark Koopa Troopas are actually an enemy from Paper Mario with the same name. They even wear sunglasses in that game, so it’s cool we ALMOST got a Paper Mario exclusive enemy in a mainline game
I started calling the Hanabihei “Firestackers” or sometimes “Firewhackers” because I thought it was clever and fit them, but I feel like Nintendo would take a more creative approach on it.
Takebo _are_ related to Goombas - the suffix -bo does mean 'boy', but it also follows the same format of the Japanese name for Goomba: Kuribo (Chestnut Boy)
I'm willing to bet that if we ever get an official English name for them, it's 100% going to be "Bamboomba" - it's so perfect.
Yeah, I gave them a quick mention again during the Rrrumba segment. It makes sense since they stack like Goombas too. Hoping we get an official English guide/art book or something to square away all these new names!
The way you pronounced "Biceratopo" made my day. Belive me that explaining how it is pronounced is not easy at all
Now that I'm consulting Google translate, should it have been (for lack of better spelling) "Bicch-era-tohpo"? 😂
@@TheMentok yes, but watch out for how you pronounce "topo", from a part of a bull-like creature's name to "mouse" in Italian it's nothing
I think I would name the firework Bob-Omb "Brob-omb".
It looks exactly like I just stuck an R in there, but I specifically chose it based after Brocade fireworks, which the enemy itself has a similar pattern to. A slow ascent that lingers in the air, then explodes into thinner, sparkling branches that shimmer in the sky for a moment.
The Join Killers meanwhile, would be "Cluster Carl", since they're multiple explosives bundled together.
awesome vid
i love the sheer variety of enemies in super mario wonder, even ones that are technically "redundant" like the armadillos/snails/sea turtles. sure maybe it's not groundbreaking that we have a few enemies that are fairly similar to koopas in function, but it does WONDERS for the environment and worldbuilding because it really *feels* like you're in these locations, the enemies you're facing are just part of the wildlife and thus fit the environment
I would personally localize the Uminoko as Aqua-Koopa or Aquabeetle
Commented the above before you actually *asked* for Hanabihei's potential localization, the same day i came up with Aquabeetle, i also named those guys Bub-lasts
I like Aqua-Koopa. Wondering if we're getting an official English guide here with all the updated names. I'll have to make an update to this video if we do
This game got an unbelievable amount of new enemies wish the sams could’ve gone for the bosses tho😔
Oshidashi is also one of the finishing techniques in Sumo, which consists of pushing your opponent out of the ring without a belt grip
you mentioned konpeito, the Star Bit-shaped candy - but konpeito has actually been in Mario even before Super Mario Galaxy - because the "Rock Candy" from Super Mario RPG is called "Konpeito" in Japanese.
Outtamyways being Ninji goombas are so cool I love them
19:39 THAT PERFECT CUT
I really liked all fhe new varieties of enemies. It feels like aside from Mario Maker we hadn't gotten a lot of new 2D Mario enemies in so long!
Personally I like the Blewbirds and Maw-Maws. And Missile Megs are great because they remind me of Torpedo Ted. I also love the Firework Bob-bombs.
Maw-Maws are a really cool idea (and they're kinda cute too). The way they run at you reminds me of the Chargin' Chucks when they first popped up in Super Mario World
The firework enemy should be called something like "popop" or "poe-pop" because fireworks pop and the enemy resembles a bob-omb so it should have a similar name. Also, bloomps being related to bullet bills is hilarious and I love it.
For the firework enemy, how about bambob-omb? It's based on Bob-omb, subtly references the similarly-stacked bamboo-like takebo, and combining them turns it into "exploding bamboo", referencing early fireworks and firecrackers made with bamboo. Plus, it has 3 syllables all resembling exploding onomatopeia, like how it explodes 3 times.
12:27
Crackle-Ombs
22:53 hmm yes, my favorite Mario enemy
E X P E R T
W O N D E R H O P P I N
Very interesting. I don't even have time for video games most days, but I'd watch some gameplay of this Mario game.
It’s what I’m here for
The first Galaxy game had shadow mario races, Galaxy 2 and 3d land had cosmic clones which practically behave the same as dark mario.
Great list of interesting enemies! I especially love how you got into the names and their meanings. Happy New Year Man!
Excellent vid. Keep up the good work and have a happy new year!
Happy New Year to you. Thanks for taking the time to watch my content!
Ngl, the 'So many creepy-crawlies...😰' voiceline is the best in this game.
It's just the flower's uttermost fright of these very much not dangerous snails and the naming 'creepy-crawlies' plus the delivery via the voice that gets me rolling everytime.
For reference: 4:01
5:05
Pakkun. If you're thinking that sounds similar to PacMan, that's because they're both based on the Pakkuncho. Yeah, Pacman is essentially "Eating in One Bite Man". Which explains what he does, scarf things down in a single bite.
14:30 omg I always wanted to figure out the name for these candies
I LAUGHED SO HARD AT THIS HELP 5:30
heres a video idea the many references to Super Mario in other media
I'm very happy with all of the new enemies. Wonder shows that there's still imagination left in 2D mario.
I hope they expand the lore
Join Killer (the segmented bulls-eye bill), i think should be called Dragon Drew. Alliteration, common names, and leaning in to what it looks like.
I always used to think mario was allergic to the sides of a goomba
I hope you do "Return To Krokodile Isle" soon. It's a really good video and I know how much you love K. Rool. I would love to see a breakdown made by you with your unique flare
Great video! One thing I will mention is the goofy red and green snail, which may have actually came from Lep’s World.
I think Bob-Booms would be a sick af name for the firework enemies
Hey bro nice video. I thought goombas were a poison mushroom lol. I was in the live stream chat
1:40 I NEEEEEEED IIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!
12:31 fireworks felix
I just noticed how often Bowser is associated with rock music. It's all the more fitting that Jack Black voiced him in the most recent Mario movie.
Happy new year Mentok! Personally, if I had the choice to name those firework bombs I think I would just straight up steal Rocket Ricky from Russia’s dub lol.
Mushroom Forrest background music spotted best music ever
Ooo fun happy new year 😊 this helps a lot since I have no plans to get this game 😅 I’m content with my two-in one Mario game for now
I’d say wait for a sale but Nintendo rarely drops their prices 😂
12:26 I'd name it Ramone Candle. This combines the name of 'roman candle' fireworks that launch tiny fireballs at regular intervals with the name Ramone in the same way that Bob-omb mixes the name Bob with the word Bomb.
Here’s a list of all the unlocalized enemies and the names I came up for them (except for one)
Erin: Topple Tot (It topples over when you kill it)
Snail: Gascargo (Gastropod + Escargot)
Shiumiu/Chin Anago: Sea Cucumburr (They look like sea cucumbers and have spikes, AKA burrs)
Suppoko/Uminoko: Naval Troopa (Pun on naval trooper and Koopa Troopa)
Houhou: Hoot Swoop (Hoot, the sound owls make, and swoop, the enemy’s behavior, also rhymes with Froot Loops)
Hakandoru: Zuckerbird (It’s a bird with a sucker foot, and also is a little reference to Mark Zuckerberg)
Lakitu trio: Lakitriad (A triad team of Lakitus)
Jump Toge: Krzzap (Onomatopoeia for getting shocked)
Hanabihei: Whiz-bang (Sound made by fireworks, structured similarly to the Bob-omb’s name)
Takebo: Bamboozo (From bamboo, the enemy’s appearance, and bozo)
Dark Mario: Unchanged
Tsubochan: Pothead (Thanks to TheMentok for coming up with the name)
Moving Door: Deadly Door (Alliteration)
Dark Nokonoko: Dark Koopa Troopa (Literally the same)
Slidon: Unchanged
Fire Spike: Scorch Spike (Keeping the trend set by Snow Spike and Stone Spike using alliterative names based on their projectiles)
Morocon: Hopcorn (Get it? It’s a pun on hop and popcorn)
Meramera: Ignitor (Fire ignites things)
Rumble: Magma Bubble (Related to the Lava Bubble)
Mecha Koopa Mk II: Copta Mechakoopa (It’s a Mechakoopa with a helicopter propeller for feet, also formatted like the Blasta and Zappa Mechakoopas)
Join Killer: Cluster Cal (Keeping the trend of an alliterative name based on the type of projectile and a three-letter given name set by the Bullet Bill, Torpedo Ted, and Missile Meg)
Note Piranha Plant: Blazin’ Beat Piranha (Referencing Bowser’s Blazing Beats)

Enemies Like Big Snootle

Or Others
Speaking of Goombas biting, that's what they do to you in Super Mario RPG. And we didn't have to wait to 2023 because the original RPG on the SNES had them biting you.
They HAVE to call the Morocons, Hop Corns. Because they jump.
I love that name
Haiden is so clever
Hiding, and haidi
You Mean Smackerel
I know I'm very late to this, but I think a cool name for the Firework enemies could be something along the lines of "Fi-yai-yars" So like the progression from Bob-omb because they shoot three times
“BULrush seems like a crossover of a dinosaur and bison”
Higherwork for the bomb enemy.
Finnaly. Someone does it
the Firework bomb-ombs reminds me of the Blocks from R.O.B's add-on called well Blocks lmao
shovas really be pushin them 🅿ipes
Personally id call the fire work dudes Fran-kracker
Phirework Phils!! spinoff from Bullet Bills
"Ka-rackle" for the new fireworks Bob-omb. Because fireworks crackle. Or maybe "Pop-ombs"? Because their bombs pop up.
I would call that bom-omb relative Fireworker
Hanabi-hei could be Firework Fred. Would fit right in alongside Bullet Bill, Torpedo Ted, and Bob-Omb with the alliterative names.
never seen you before. good video
Welcome!
Pokipede may also be related to Pokeys, even being a sort of link between the two species
Small correction: Slidons are not also the english name, Slidons are still unlocalized.
I'm helping a friend with a mario based pokemon region, and this is helping me a lot
Kinda sucks that, months after the game released, Nintendo still hasn't given official names to like half of the enemies
Agreed. Nintendo of America is slacking on this. Since instructions booklets are a thing of the past, there's less pressure on them to name them. 😂 Hoping for a full guide or behind the scenes book in English that squares all this away.
I only knew what Mera Mera meant thanks to One Piece lol
“Born suffering”..aww, they do look miserable. 😂
When playing Wonder for the first time seeing the Missile Meg name made me laugh hard.
I think the Revver’s “leash” is supposed to be a pull cord. Like those cat toys that look like mice.
If birds and dinosaurs are distant relatives, the dart birds may very well be distant relatives of Yoshi, both having koops like shells on their backs... Js...
Fun fact: In Mario galaxy 2, there is a variant of Cosmic Mario that isn't for racing and there were always more then one
The fireworks guy, Romab-Omb
tsubochan reminds me of a noko, a small but rare snake dude who does nothing but be useless and get drunk, they are the embodiment of something rare thats not worth the effort
Hanabihei's english name will probably be either Popp-ow or Krac-kow to tie it in with the Bob-omb family, and i'd be pretty happy with either!
@10:11 is wildly similar to Queen’s Funk song in one piece
when i found the little bob-omb fireworks i just called them battery-bolts and i have no idea why
I would name it Pot-op. Pop-Top, maybe. It’s top pops and then the fireworks go pop. It works.
I like to call the firework guy a firehou, after the phrase “fire in the hole”
The German word for snake is "Schlange". The enemy's name contains "schlängeln" which is a verb meaning something along the lines of "to meander" or "to wiggle".
Chorochu is such cute name though. Choro can refer to dashing about to and fro.
Is it just me,or is it weird the other Koopalings didn't appear in the game? I mean, the game has a small music theme going, and the Koopalings are literally named after musicians,I mean,it practically writes itself.
one thing to the tausendschlängler.
the name is made up of two (or even three) names. And is an allusion to centipedes.
"tausend" = thousand
"Tausendfüßler" = centipede (but literally a thousand feet‘ler)
"Schlange" = snake
"Schlängeln" = to wiggle / to curl / to meander
the word "schläger" is also woven in, which means beater.
THE RISE OF THE RRROOMBAS
Singing Piranha Plants Are The Best
12:32 Bob-work
I would’ve sworn the pacifiers on the Slidons were supposed to be noses
I miss the cast list style ending like they had in Super Mario World, would be so great in Wonder.
Poppy or Flambo? In a sort of hey, they'll be a partner. Hopefully, they won't attack something three times trying to open a path for you or anything!
Also rocket Ricky is my favorite.
the pokipede is obviously a koopapede in actuallity, the koopa version of the human centipede 😰
the name just has been bastardised from koopapede to pookapede* to pokipede
_*) a cruel, sadistic pun on the poo-/kaka-related issues in this disturbing lab experiment_
The join killer should be called Homing Hank
I would name the fire work enemy fieries because they throw fireworks and they look like batteries.
I kinda hope the English name for the firework dudes ends up being Crackle-Jack. Also hoping the Moving Doors get officially called Screamoors in English
12:29 i'd ether call them "fire worker" (mix of fire work and worker) or "cella breda" (like the word Celebrate and the a name being Breda like how bob ombs have a name with what they are)
Bob-works
Bob-ursts
(no relation)
3:55 (not so) fun fact: Snails are based on zombie snails infected with parasites :)
