SMASHING PUMPKINS "1979" live acoustic piano & vocal cover

- The Smashing Pumpkins from suburban Chicago, led by guitarist/vocalist and main songwriter Billy Corgan, were one of the signature bands of the mid/late 90s, enjoying enormous success for several years around that time. The melancholy & contemplative "1979" transcended their core audience to become a huge mainstream hit in the autumn of 1995, and and probably remains their most recognizable song. Special thanks to Sean O'Reilly, whose interpretation of "1979" finally taught me how to play it after years of futile attempts; i highly recommend listening to Sean's version, which is easily found on YT. Also a big thanks (dyakuyu, spaciba!) to whoever put this piano at Paysage Alley in Kyiv - was a genius move! No commercial use.

Was born is 79. So this will forever be my birth song
Man, I’m blown away by your covers.
This song was a hot radio hit during my high school years. The music of the decade can transport me to a time where the future was far down the line.
Now I realize the biggest offense was thinking time was something to be treated lightly and tossed away like rubbish because now I’m at the edge of forty and can’t believe 1997 is so far behind.
Life begins at 40 , no point wasting anymore time pining for the past, just be thankful we grew up with this and not the rubbish on the radio today

Came from your post on the Daily Show as I'm a CC and SP fan and was intrigued. I always follow links with low expectations but curiosity - and then heard this and was blown away. Really touching version and the location/acoustics are amazing. Fantastic work, sir. I might even dig my dusty guitar out and play along.
Wow, sounded great! I bet it sounded even better being there right in front of that beautiful view!

I had originally posted this comment on the actual song where you posted the link here
Good job, I’m particularly interested in the backdrop you used.
I wasn’t very old when this song got lots of airplay, a kid at 8 years old but I do remember the song quite well when it was new.
One nostalgic feeling I personally get, growing up in Brampton, a suburb of Toronto, there was a nice park, with both playgrounds, with a man made lake and wooded areas not unlike the picture you used…..for some reason this song takes me back to that kind of era when this was what we looked forward to as kids. Back in Summer of 96 when this song still got lots of airplay and video play.
In the days before any of us had ever seen a single webpage in our life.
Came here from Colbert. Love it!
Acoustically that must be quite the spot with all that brick to reflect & reverberate the sound. You even had a walkthru audience! Never heard this song but as usual your picks are spot on & you remind me I haven't listened to enough music lately.
Hope you decide to go check the smashing pumpkins out , you won't be disappointed

Your is version is a cool version of the original, in the 90's I am more on Cranberries, Nirvana and Spin Doctors, I also listen to Smashing Pumpkins but not that much.
Pocket Full of Kryptonite is an early 90s favorite song of mine.
