    LYRICS
oh dont let it get you down no
we gettin more than we can handle we live a dangerous scandal
no love no no love no
kids afraid of being shot up
shooter drills are how they brought up with e gonzalez we all stand up
we call bs though no love no
the left wing and right wing the flex and the fight
afraid to speak up when we know this aint right
thoughts and the prayers they dont help if we die, time to change it
    we all living like strangers
we aint living like neighbors no more no love, only anger
how low can we go how low can we go
the upside down is now the future friends dont lie but damn they use ya if social media dont choose ya
you just a shadow so shallow
money and greed dont get chya what ya want its beatin us down we dont want it to stop
out here just spilling our blood for the top but we about to feel the drop
instead of tryin to forgive we all got something to prove
instead of fighting to win we out here choosing to lose
instead of calling for peace we out here yelling for war
instead of setting hopes high we got our face to the floor
instead of speaking our minds we aint got nothing to say
instead of showing some love we got a heart full of hate
instead of breaking from lies we out here bending the truth
instead of fists in the air we got a nazi salute.
what more can i really do? just goes on and on and on
wouldnʼt expect me to put up a fight cuz we just strangers after all right?

This and History Of Violence both perfectly replicate what is going on in today’s society. It’s a constant struggle between the good and the bad.

We need to go beyond politics and start thinking as a whole, by force, if need be. I'm waiting to see how QAnon plays out, if it isn't what I believe it to be I'll be out making the changes.

Theory of a Deadman - Strangers - Lyrics
    [Intro]
The dark side of the city
    Sirens are the stereo
The dark side of the city
How low can we go? How low can we go?
    [Verse 1]
Don't let it get you down, no
We're getting more than we can handle
    We live a dangerous scandal
No love, no, no love, no
Kids afraid of being shot up
Shooter drills are how they brought up
With E. Gonzalez we all stand up
We call B.S. though, no love, no
    [Pre-Chorus 1]
The left-wing and right-wing, the flex and the fight
Afraid to speak up when we know this ain't right
Thoughts and the prayers, they don't help if we got
    Time to change it, yeah
    [Chorus]
    We all living like strangers
We ain't living like neighbors no more
    No love, only anger
How low can we go? How low can we go?
    Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh-whoa
    Low, oh-oh, oh-oh-whoa
    Low, oh-oh, oh-oh-whoa
How low can we go? How low can we go?
    [Verse 2]
The upside-down is now the future
Friends don't lie but damn they use ya
If social media don't choose ya
You just a shadow, so shallow
    [Pre-Chorus 2]
Money and greed don't get ya what you want
It's beating us down, we don't want it to stop
Out here just spilling our blood for the top
But we about to feel the drop
    [Chorus]
    We all living like strangers
We ain't living like neighbors no more
    No love, only anger
How low can we go? How low can we go?
    Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh-whoa

erforce2s I totally agree with you. I just get tired of hearing people bitch about their bands “selling out” because they want them to have the same exact sound forever and ever. Life is constant change. For godsakes, we waited 13 years for a new Tool album and people still bitched about it. It’s art. Even if it’s not someone’s thing, one is able to find the good in everything if they just open their eyes.

As soon as they drop one new rock hit they’ll jump back on the bandwagon lol.

History of Violence caught me by surprise when they transitioned music styles. Honestly, I'm not mad at all. It took me a while to get into it but I grew to like their new singles a lot, especially this song. As somebody who feels heavily for topics in the lyrics including mass shootings, politics and the media/news, and other issues our nation currently deals with tells a message and wake up call (pun intended) that we should come together to make change for the betterment of our people. Rather than being divided by our own self inflicted opinions. If people don't like the new style, it's fine. I care more about their compassion for music and sharing them into creating a form of art 🙌

If one side is blaming all of our problems on individuals (like all Jews, gays, immigrants, or black people), and the other side is blaming systemic institutions established through history (like corporate corruption, neverending war, a backwards justice system, and lack of access to education), then...
Sorry, I'm going with the logical analysis of history over an emotionally generalizing entire groups of people.

    • @shadow_of_thoth
      @shadow_of_thoth Před 4 lety +2

0:00 The red and blue represents Republicans and Democrats, but it also has the double meaning of a police state, if you notice the beginning of the song, where the sirens on the police car are red and blue.
Then, all of the bombs, tanks, and guns throughout the song represent the military actions America takes regularly around the world.
0:35 is referencing Big Pharma. You can see the rod of asclepius (the medical symbol) over money signs, held by a skeleton making an Uncle Sam pose. Basically saying the healthcare industry is killing Americans for profit.
After that is obviously Trump's border wall. "We ain't living like neighbors."
1:15 is Lady Liberty with surveillance cameras.
1:18 is a voting booth on fire. Self-explanatory.
1:38 those tiki torches were involved in a far right protest where they were chanting "Jews will not replace us" over and over again.
At the end, the fist is the "resist" fist, used by many civil rights activists throughout history. It's also somewhat of a left-wing anarchy symbol.

Thank you for always being meaningful in your music. These lyrics ring so much truth. I wish you would have played it in Belvidere, which was a fantastic show by the way! It's funny, the last show we went to in Joliet, IL at the Forge, right after you released Rx. Was great to hear that live this time around! Thanks for the heart you put into music.

I dont necessarily like cookie cutter music. I just don't like pop. And its hard for fans to watch one of their favorite rock bands no longer play rock. The last album just didnt hit me the same way some of their other stuff. It just means theyre attracting a new audience with this new sound and some of us miss the old sound because what those were really spoke to us.
