#XBOX360 #XBOXRGH - Věda a technologie
Update: After 3 months the console no longer boots. As I mentioned from the start, RGH3 is not recommended for phat consoles. You may have success with it at first but don't count on it lasting forever. I'm not pissed as I kinda expected this to happen eventually 😂
Further update: After removing the RGH3 wiring and flashing the original NAND backup, I got RRoD 0022. Spent a day trying to resurrect it, making sure no traces were damaged, joints bridged etc. Even went as far as redoing the f up I made with FT6U6, changing to RGH1.2, playing with many different options in J-Runner, and the result was always the same - 0022 with retail dash, and nothing with RGH (just a green power led as the modified NAND cannot display most RRoD errors afaik).
Almost certainly the CPU is dead, whether or not it would have died anyway without RGH3ing I'll never know - probably. Anyway, like I keep saying RGH3 is not recommended for phats. Time to RGH1.2 my other white Falcon 😁
Get 3rl?
No. It just sits there doing nothing, power light and fans turn on but that's it. I might try flashing it back to stock, see if it still works and if so I'll install rgh1.2
@@TheRetroChannel if you can make a video about your try 👍
@@TheRetroChannel mine booted for about 2 days and stoped..light and fan came on but no boot....checked my solder joints with a magnifier and there it was! rgh wire was touching a resistor!..redone that and now its been booting very consistent around 4 or 5 sec ever time!
oh and i used a 10k not a 22k
I may be the only person on earth who still has a working launch day 360 that has never had an issue. Still works fine
Mine works fine, but the shell is old enough that the clips break off when I tried to clean it recently. T.T
I have two launch team consoles. They’re both working. Although all they do now is sit on a shelf.
@Destiny 1G Better to have a few broken clips than a dusty 360 I guess, especially when they're prone to overheating
@@carnavs Nice!
You must not use discs very much, are you sure it's a launch-day xenon? or is it an Opus (the xenons fixed with leaded re-ball) Opus are bullet-proof, but the hitachi ODD dont last that long....
just found the channel, you've got great pacing, just the right amount of information presented without going too crazy on specifics unless you have to. really enjoying what i'm seeing so far. it's great to see a variety of era's of consoles you're working on as well, keeps things really fresh and interesting.
hope you can get used to soldering under the microscope, that sounds like a really tough thing to get down.
as someone who jtag'd hundreds of phat consoles years ago, it's really interesting to see someone rgh a phat 360, really a damn shame that it died so quickly. happy to see it's more accessible to do so using the pico.
keep up the good work
Dude I want to thank you! It worked!!
Lot of memories stirred up watching this!
Nice to see inside one of these again. I probably spent more time hacking xbox's than playing games on them 😆
Sounds like every piece of hardware these days, we spend more time repairing and hacking them than playing games but I'm cool with that
Fantastic video. Thanks for sharing 😁
Thank you Scott
Good stuff :)
Cheers mate. I plan to revisit the 360 soon and do another video with RGH1.2 and avoiding some mistakes I made with this one
I really wouldn't bother messing with the SMC temperature targets in Dashlaunch, just leave it stock. Even if you have an early Falcon with a defective GPU (part # is X810480), setting the fans to run faster is not gonna prevent the GPU from failing. My Falcon has a fixed GPU and was running totally retail since I got it as a kid in mid 2008.
Yeah, looks like the CPU died in this one anyway. I just modded another Falcon with RGH1.2 and didn't bother messing with the temp targets this time
@@TheRetroChannelNice!
@@ 5:40 if you dont have a fancy tool like this, do like i did atleast my trinity model had this trick. Under that sticker /case on the left side is a a latch hidden from the top access. That latch has a secret access hole under that sticker. Feel around for an indentation then get a screw driver poke through and push. It should release the clip right away.
Love ConsoleMods wiki, made installing CFW on my PS3 an absolute breeze
which ruined the whole community for modding
Oh wow, i remeber trying to flash the dvd drive, and could not get my pc sata to talk to it. So i pulled apart the drive and the flashrom had resion on it, got the reson off, desolder the flash rom, made a harness and external socket, then modded my aopen motherboard and added a second socket and apropriate mods. Then modified the bios flash program to reconise and program the 360 dvd drive flash rom. 😂
Mother plucker, and woo hoo it worked. All while i was working 12hour shifts labouring and going out to the shed late at night and early morning 😴
Fun time and i still have the drive but the xbox died, but i have used drive on other xboxs but i tbink i had to change a key as the drive is coded to the mother board.
Still pretty cool to find new uses for these stationary console systems when so many have either moved on to handheld consoles, mobile phone apps and/or deeper into high powered PC games with insane graphics cards. There really is significant value that can be had on these systems still and I'm not sure how much longer Microsoft will maintain their online service. It's nice to know we have options.
When you finish flashing, do you have to leave the wires soldered to the board or can you heat them up and remove them?
To anyone who won't buy an x-clamp tool for onetime use, I recommend using a pair scissors
Something I found when copying discs to my Trinity system is that there are some games that MUST be installed using GOD format. I had one with an illegal character in the file name (allowed on the DVD format, but not the hard drive file system), and one where the file name was simply too long. (Many subdirectories deep.) Ripping to GOD format solved both problems.
Do you use solid core wire or stranded wire? Is solid core easier or not worth it because it might break when bended? Thanks for this video, very informative.
30AWG solid core, it won't break from bending unless you force it to.
@@TheRetroChannelOk thanks! I might have to go with stranded 28awg, having a hard time finding solid core in my area.
Honestly I would recommend ordering some solid core stuff online if you can't find it locally. The stranded stuff can quickly become a hassle when trying to solder it neatly to those tiny points on the board.
@@null643look up kynar wire
Nice very well and informative video
Period good job
Absolutely spot on with the update info
JTAG is 7371
Possibly even some higher according to octal450
I broke this point 17:15 is their anyother place that i can solder to that will make it work
I did this late last year with a Phat Falcon V2 360. Still works great though I keep offline even with a stealth server installed on it. Mostly use it to play japanese imports that were region locked since it's cheaper than buying a working japanese 360.
Neat. I'm yet to explore the Japanese exclusives, got any recommendations?
@@TheRetroChannel Otomedius Gorgeous is a pretty good start. It's a shoot em' up style game and a prequel to Otomedius Excellent we got here in the states. The game has japanese menus but there's an english patch out there that translates the menus.
There's also the region locked No More Heroes Port. The game was released on Wii here in the states but they released an HD port of the game on the 360 in Japan but never released it on other regions and left it region locked.
Hi I know I'm late but I need some help.
I already had a jailbroken xbox just like the one here. I don't what happened but i think the files have been deleted do i just download them again?
When i connected the xbox 360 to a tv the screen stayed blank no matter how many different screens and cables i tried. I still have not seen the Xell screen to get the ip address or cpu key.
Is diode needed?
Trying to do this never soldered before solder keeps sticking to iron and clumping
Hi, hear a question, why did you take the point (FT6U6) and in the videos I've seen or the installations I've done we always take the point (FT6U7) does it have something to do with it or is the point (FT6U6) more effective? Could you get me out of it? the doubt.
Bye
FT6U6 was a mistake which I soon realised later on in the video
What is recommendation for non hdmi phat model
Steps you have followed will work with it as well ?
EXT_CLK for Xenon
RGH1.2 for Opus
Both require a glitch chip and programmer so the method in this video will not work
Can I also flash my Xbox360 Zephyr with it ?
What cheep soldering iron do you recommend mine doesnt qork has good anymore even though i replaced the tip but qhat would you recommend
I hear the TS100 and pinecil are decent options if you're on a budget. I haven't used either myself, the one I use is an Aixun T3A which is a bit more expensive. You can find some info on it in the "tools and kit" link in the video description
@@TheRetroChannel is a 90w soldering iron enough for a lead free rosin core solder cuz I found a pretty good deal on Amazon for one it's $30CAD and it's digital max temp for it is 450c is that decent or na
i wonder if its possible w/ a Slim E
Hi, my pico pins pre-installed, but they're at the back of the flasher, yours are on the front, does that matter?
Nope
Does modding the 360 remove the disc requirements for games already saved on the HDD?
Yes, a program called NXE2GOD does that.
@@firstsurname9893 Thanks for the tip!
In the last update you cna paly games from the hard drive or form usb sticks too if you don't run different systems on the xbox or use it for coding or homebrew don't fuck up your console it's not worth it....
hello, how are you, look, what happens is that I made RGH3 to an xbox 360 fat Jasper board, but when it comes to turning it on it takes approximately 20 seconds, other times it turns on immediately, I did everything you say in the video, the only thing is that I did it with the 1.2 volt regulators and the points are different I did the installation as in the video of (TecNobit) could you help me and tell me what could be the problem Goodbye
RGH3 boot times will vary a lot on fat 360s and may eventually fail to boot at all, hence why it's not recommended for Falcon/Jasper. Change to RGH1.2 if it bothers you
So I have the Xbox 360 E (released in 2013 along xbox one) So it will work?
Depends on if it is a Corona or Winchester revision. Please check out octalsconsoleshop website, there's plenty of excellent guides there including how to identify your console revision. He also offers install services if you're in the US
@@TheRetroChannel Pretty sure all E are post-Corona, but I think there was a hack for them also
I want xbox 360 slim rgh3 tutorial (both trinity and corona).
Well I do have both a Trinity and Corona so maybe it will happen. No idea if either of them work, I don't have the power supplies at the moment
What are specs on Diode and Resister? just basic?
It differs for the 3 different motherboard versions
Hi, thanks for the instructions. Is there any other mods for X360:
- upgrading the RAM to 1GB (Dev kit has this amount of RAM ant will it work)?
- breaking the limit of 2TB for disk?
- connecting second disk via SATA (replacing DVD for example)?
I don't believe there's any way to upgrade the RAM but google is your friend there.
The 2TB limit has been broken recently by Eaton, and I believe the patch is included in the latest versions of JRunner. I haven't played with this myself so don't know exactly how it works.
Not sure about the 2nd disk, again google is your friend there
@@TheRetroChannel well, I've search a lot, but few years ago. Last time there was no any options to break all those limits. And, probably, they are still exist. Except disk size. 16 TB i enough:)
If it will be possible to little increase performance for the console to make some games run on stable FPS. Just dreams. Sooner we will have stable and fast emulation in and powerful enough integrated graphics for running Xbox games ;)
@@TheRetroChannel have you ever heard anything about being able to put an SSD in the 360?
Not that I've heard, but I haven't looked into it
Id be so happy if this worked on my Zephyr model.
It destroyed the console tho you read the update..... how good for some peopels that can just fuck up a working old console without a worry at all i have a 2207 falcon model and i'm afraid to mod it i don't want to fuck it up...
I wish I didn't throw my xbox's out :( I still have a jasper JTAG, but I had a falcon that had a bad flash on the dvd drive that I could have saved with RGH but I just threw it out because they were selling for 20 dollars on ebay and I couldn't be bothered to mod it at the time. I threw others out too but they were mostly busted. Various RRoD issues and a corrupt nand with no backup.
I think we all have those regrets, but that's what happens when they're a dime a dozen. Good thing is they're still cheap and fairly easy to find if you want a backup console
“It’ll be harder if the console hasn’t been open”
Me watching my console disassemble itself 😮
Do you have to take xclamp off
Not necessarily, but you should change the thermal paste if it hasn't been done recently
Same error pico xell no xell
I have lost hope that somebody will find a way to hack Xbox 360 with Winchester motherboard...
i like cars they're cute
Why does all these videos only show how to do this with the Pi Pico? Why can't it be done with any small ARM-based computer, like the Banana Pi? Isn't just some GPIO pins and maybe i2c (or SPI) all you need??
Pi pico does it properly by actually implementing the SPI protocol versus bit banging on a regular raspi, this means the pico actually has better performance.
@@MattBeaver A LOT of devices have real SPI. The ESP8266 and ESP32 comes to mind. Even Arduinos have SPI. Why only the Pico?
@@dtesta it's cheap as dirt
@@MattBeaver No, it's not. The pico is 10 USD+, while the esp8266 is like 2 USD.
@@dtesta Pico has a faster processor, more ram, and an easier development environment then.
Hi
I can on raspberry pi zero
Falcon. yikes...
Not being funny a lot of faffing to just load up games 🤫
Why are people modding xbox360 in 2023?
Why wouldn't they be? It's fun
Why not ? I find it to be very interesting to me.
I am really worried, Latin American countries commonly resort to piracy, because they are poor or fifth world countries. In the USA or European countries they are rich, they should not modify the consoles, they should buy original games
The xbox360 is very old and no one makes or sells comercial games for it so piracy isnt really an issue as the developers/publishers arnt losing any money by people copying 360 games.
The games are worthless financially now, my local recycling centre always has a pile of them you can help yourself to for free. No ones buying them anymore.
