Monolith Encore T6 Tower Speakers: $800/pr Are they that good?

  • A few years ago, Monoprice’s Monolith THX speaker line proved that they could deliver a THX sound experience at lower price points than anyone thought possible. Now, in an attempt to deliver a high-quality sound at a lower price point, they have unveiled their new Encore line of speakers that cost half of the price of their Monolith offerings. How far can the Monolith wizards go at Monoprice in producing a high-performing speaker at an entry-level cost?
    We discuss the full details about the Encore T6 loudspeakers with Audioholics reviewer James Larson. James discusses the build quality, sound quality, objective measurements, and how it ranks in the very competitive (MSRP: $800/pr) price point.

    Two points. First up: Audioholics are the reviewers of choice. Pretty much just them and ASR. Second. We are truly in a golden age of Hi-Fi. It is not so much fabulous gear at good prices - it is that plus what is lowest end requirement of Hi-Fi. A good test is the slow movement of Beethoven's 7th - the one with the great string chords. The musical meaning, the pain , is established. If you get that with low end Hi-Fi then you have arrived.
    The audio community and I owe a debt of gratitude to the input of these selfless individuals.

    With the going price of the Encore T5's I couldn't resist. At $180/pair and free delivery they are a steal. I'm measuring nearly flat to 30hz in room and bass is very tight. Subwoofer is not needed for music, I'd probably get a sub for movies certainly but these are just for TV and casual listening. They play very loud - currently have them paired with an old Carver TFM-15CB which provides them with plenty of power.

    I really wish monoprice brought a better center channel to the table with this series. The center channel is the most important speaker in theater based speaker series like these. I advise beginners to shop for a strong center channel and then look at the companies left and right channel options. Monoprice should really design a better center because a lot of people aren’t wanting to buy a different Monoprice center that doesn’t match.

    • @Audioholics
      @Audioholics  Před 2 lety +3

      An MTM like theirs should be fine if seated within 20 degrees off axis from MLP. Otherwise, use their bookshelf vertically.

      @JoshuaPeters3036 Před 2 lety +2

      @@Audioholics I’m not trying to be negative but just to be honest 20° is not very good at all and the bookshelf doesn’t have the output that is going to please many people for very long. It would be good for customers and for their wallets if they designed a better center channel.

    • @Ranguvar13
      @Ranguvar13 Před 7 měsíci

    • @JoshuaPeters3036
      @JoshuaPeters3036 Před 7 měsíci

      @@Ranguvar13 its an ok speaker but still can’t handle the dynamics like a big speaker. Those 365’s still don’t have the dynamics to listen at reference and never expect to hear any sharp unpleasant sounds. I strongly dislike speakers that feel like they are being pushed to their limit at volume levels that movies should be played at. My JTR 212 HTR plays at my listening levels without even breaking a sweat while still keeping the clarity, dynamics and output. It really is a work horse with beautiful clarity and the ability to always stay in control dynamically speaking. After finding out the 212HTR could handle anything, I chose JTR to go with for my home theater. Once I get the opportunity to get an acoustically transparent screen down the road I can run it vertically on a stand with the other 2 212 HTR’s. I truly believe that will be perfection. For me anyways. These speakers might suit some people just fine if they are on the quieter side of listening.

    I have a pair of Polk with double drivers. Simple 6 and a 1/2. I really doubted they could punch good but they do. If you combine more 6.5 drivers you start to build-up cone mass. You start running a bunch of 6.5 drivers and you're starting to get a really tight punch on the low end. If it's built for it. I'm really interested to hear these and try them. Anybody with a bargain price and they're trying to compete with the big dogs I give them a chance. When I think of the nineties these are pretty nice compared to anything back in time and today. If these were powered Then the package would be complete and all you need is a phone to connect. I really like the idea of the Bluetooth amping. But Bluetooth is not great. Wi-Fi amping. That's what we need we need IOT amplifiers. They look like a good mackie comparison. Is definitely better than klh.
