Although I agree with several points that you brought out on the quality of workmanship on this particular repair, there is not a single shop including yours that can make perfect defect free repairs. Even if your insurance company is cheap and buys aftermarket parts? Or decides to not pay the shop/tech for everything they do? Or if the corporate shop you took it to has a "we'll make sure you make it up on the next job" mentality when it comes to taking care of the technician?
Rob R I didnt see much in the way of aftermarket parts. Bumber maybe. But still cant tell. He was too picky on the gaps, But the paint work and color and overspray unacceptable in my shop. F bumper looked way brighter white and they used a yellow and tried to blend it.
I'm 27yrs body technician and wanna say I'm just sick of picky customers. I'm talking about the ones that want other stuff fixed for free while its in the shop or say its got a scratch on the other side that wasn't there before.also insurance adjusters that don't know shit about a car writing an estimate !!!
That was my first thought on the gaps. He gettin lil too picky on those. I was sayin go check a factory one! But even i could see the blend and overspray on camera so obv not quality job. Bumber was too light, rest was wayy too yellow darker. They didnt buff any of it. He talkin bout one spot near handle, lol.
Plastic bumper covers and metal panels will always mismatch in color, even when sprayed at the same time with the same batch of paint. It's called pigment wick. The solvents react differently to the different substrates.
I bet any paint shop that see's this guy coming they probably say to themselves "Awe shit....here comes the guy with the gauges" This guy has a really good attention to detail. Although I will say on a Dodge Journey a sledgehammer dent would improve the car.
Lmao "here you can see the gap goes from 4.5 to 4.0 back to 4.5 1nch beyond that........lmao. This guy obv is no body man. You would have to spend a week getting gaps right with a fender that was made in china.......!!! This is what we call a paper pusher in my world.

The whole auto body industry should stand up, its only gonna get worse and soon theyll get guys from mcdonalds to paint your car. I cant make a living hardly as a painter nowdays. Its sad
Working hard for that post repair inspection fee I see. I have a brand new Fusion with gap issues all over and paint issues (color match, overstay, etc.)..this guy is an ambulance chaser..btw he charges the owner for what he did
Some body shops are crooked as hell. They cut corners, wants a lot of money from you and insurance company, but does a crappy/shady job on the work. It not their vehicle so they can care less about other people vehicle. No honest craftsmen ship goes into the work.
I agree with most of this but seriously many of these cars brand new have mismatched gap lines and bumpers. For a base model Dodge Journey just buff those runs out and send it!😂
ha, the insurance company os to blame for this by sending you to shops that will do the work for less money. the tech isnt going to do anything more than they get paid for. its sad, but these guys want factory repairs, but wont pay to achieve the results they seek. gaps are never right from the factory, go take a gauge to a dealer lot and youll see most cars leave tje factory with at least 2 mm gap difference side to side. new cars with plastic bumpers will never have an exact paint match to a metal fender because they are two different substrates, metal and plastic. every new car comes off the assembly line with a color difference from the fender to bumper unless its straight black..... these guys are a joke, trying to pay less for higher quality. the insurance industry is a scam to make money and pay out less on every claim, then reinspect the vehicle and say you didnt do it fast enough and you didnt do a bunch of free work to make the car look perfect. dont get me wrong, some shops purely do shit work to get money, but besides some paint flaws, this would be an average repair in most cases.

seldom if ever, is there an insurance man in the middle of a mechanical repair, so those garages receive ample moneys for their labor...mr adjuster/claims writer walks in and wants you to bow, kneel and fear him...the reality is, they desperately need the shops as an accomplice to the deception....biggest buffalo of all time...if shop owners would ever resist in unity, it would all stop for good forever....yeah, right...and then we,d all have a Merry Christmas.
I remember having some minor bodywork done on my car after a door was smashed by an uninsured driver. The work the shop did exceeding Honda's factory in Mexico on quality. The paint was smoother lol Though they screwed up the buffing on one surface which left swirls, but I pointed it out and they made good on it.
I called Ron this morning on a small issues with my car, I drove to the shop and within a matter of a couple of minutes Ron took car of it for me. This is the second time I went there and walked away a happy customer. I highly recommend the shop.
This man is a joke. Where is the contract for this job and how much did he pay for it? He is a scammer and should not be taken seriously. He is a fraud.
sasasas dadadadada Thats what I was thinking. It coulda been a cheapo job some guy did for $300. In that case yeah it would look ok. But for an insurance repair no.
I understand sometimes gaps don’t always come out to a T but sometimes insurance gives us aftermarket parts TONG YANG impossible to make fit even with reaming the holes. Gotta remember we are humans not robots. But yeah I agree sometimes some shops just absolutely botch jobs.
This is what happens when you pay top dollar for your insurance but insurance wants to pay out as little as possible so they fix your car with aftermarket parts and cut corners. trust me I work in the field so much shit goes on it's crazy. Aftermarket parts lower the value of your car Point Blank.
Help!! I just bought a used 2018 Cadillac and the dealership never told me they repainted the front bumper due to scratches!! I didn’t notice the horrible chop shop work because it was a rainy day!! I’ve now brought it to a auto body repair shop that I’ve used for years ... and they said it was a terrible job ... fish eyes everywhere, the whole front bumper isn’t buffed so it looks mate finish compared to the rest of the car?? Any ideas on what I can do to have this done right... oh and the dealership won’t get back to me !!
One important thing to remember: this vehicle is a Chrysler product, so any mismatched gaps and poor paint job might be totally normal on this crappy SUV from the factory. ;-)
All y'all paint and body guys make fun of this guy, his hands, him being in office clothes, saying he's never done this type of work and on and on...He's not claiming to be a paint and body guy. Just because you spray paint and apply fillers, it don't make you a paint and body man either. Your comments obviously tell me you do this type of shitty work, and you need to go bag groceries for a living instead of touching people's cars. You all are the people ruining $50k plus vehicles. I took a $60k truck in for a fender repair. It must have been one of you all working on it. Curl in paint, bad overspray across entire windshield, bad filler job on scrapes in the fender (the only damaged part!), paint curl across the undamaged door in secondary color of two tone paint where they "blended", and now clear coat is peeling off on "blended" door and hood. Both of which were undamaged. I specifically asked them not to touch any other panels. Now instead of a shitty job on just the fender, I have issues with the fender, the hood, and the passenger front door. HAVE SOME PRIDE IN YOUR WORK or GTFO!!
What is sad is that this was probably done in a shop with a paint booth with more-than-adequate lighting. If I can do much better than this in my garage, there is no excuse.
i would like to see this guy doing the work with his beautiful nice and smoth lady hands, i see this kind of ladies everyday , but when you ask them what would be a solution or tell him to show you what would he do about it is scrap the whole paint again is what they say , when you know that this cutie ladies sont want to pay enough to buff and polish the entire car
Oh STFU.....ill bet your work is shitty too. Thats why you make so many god damn excuses. Quick turn around is the name of the game and these piece of shit body shops dont give a damn because they know the average customer with no attention to detail is just happy to have their car back after 2 fucking months in the shop for a bullshit bumper cover repair. There is NO EXCUSE for fisheyes, runs and overspray. If you cant do it right get the fuck out of business.
Paint is obviously flawed but so is the panel beater who worked on it. Not stripping everything and not adjusting panels properly. The bumper bar is a given, always a different colour from factory
Its the insurance fault! Im a painter and labor rate on that is around $52 here. Mechanic is 80 or even 100 some places. The ins companies only give certain amount of time per panel and per dent. This guy is literally justifying his paycheck, and clearly loves the little bit of power he's been given. All I've seen in this video is 1 camera shot that shows a little overspray on the windshield, other than that there's no evidence in this video other than all the sharpie circle's he drew that the camera couldn't show the faults labelled !! And he fails to tell everyone that the gauges he's using and the manufacturer guidelines have a tolerance close to 1mm either way which makes all the readings he took acceptable, but he didn't mention that.!? The thing to understand is if this guy doesn't pick apart and find faults even as miniscule as they may be, then he's not doing his job !! Only a certain type of person would do this job, usually people who have a few cats and live with their mother so a little bit of disecting others hard work gives a feeling of power and makes up for the friends they never had !!
Picky, picky, picky. They should do quality check on brand new cars at the dealerships. Gaps are bad. Cars will never come out of a collision repair 100% the same. Restoration shop cars are full of body filler. I want to see these guys do body work. Body techs get all the blame. The real ones to blame are the insurance companies.
I can't believe some shop owners don't pay there workers for the job. Theres a lot of shit shops that will only pay for X hours, but than expect or demand the worker do Y hours on the job. There are always two sides. Most of the time its about not getting paid more so than no pride.
You are so right. Why doesn't the bodyman use that same gage. AND whats wrong with the painter with overspray like that...he is fired!!! Show some pride guys in your work...flat rate or not,, WHAT???
Eric Barnhouse This a good job . Dodge does not have perfect paint or fenders of the show room floor. I had a fusion that had overspray and it was new.
Some shops want you to go faster they don't care about quality but money... the more cars you put out the more money in their pockets.. totally sucks tbh
I just had some work done on my car from Caliper Collision , screwed the paint job up 2 times and now it has not been sprayed right , its to light in areas and this is the hood, Im just going to make a claim on my comp , and go to someone else , not sure if I can get my deduc back or not , I hate to let them win , after 2 botched jobs
The insurance company approved the service first status at the shop it went to so they are the second to blame the first is the hack that took the money for this job. Crazy man.
Insurance co. probably spec. after market parts. Insurance co.advise you to take the repair to their shops that they make a deal with. These shops accept after market non oem parts and also discount labor and MATERIALS for the insurance company. There is a huge difference between oem parts and aftermarket and a diffence between cheap materials and upper end materials. How do I know? Upper end Lincoln and Ford dealer ship for 20 plus years, direct repair program for 5 insurance co. The clear we used was lower grade to keep cost down. Retired now and just do specialty work. All the materials I use are upper end in my shop and it shows. 500 a sprayable gallon vs 200. AS far as fit goes no one really pays attention when they buy a car. Its after it gets wrecked and repaired the start looking. Dont believe me, go to a Chevy, Ford, Dodge, dealership on a Sunday so you can really compaire gaps between vehical to vehical and you will see.
Also for you guys.. we have to warranty all repairs to spec for the life of the vehicle as long as the customer owns it. We put our necks out for you..(as your boss) hoping you would care for or customers as much as we do. so have some consideration for us.
90% of bodyshops rush em in and out No time to play with doors and fenders and hoods ..Get them on fix the gaps best you can and move on to the prep and paint ..grab the next car The other point of it is the detailer needs to catch these problems along with the service advisor (runs blemishs overspray Buffing polishing paint touch up and overall little things...Lights horn Interior clean..Not only from the dirt from the shop but the customers too
I've got a marker pen. Im going to use it to point out all the flaws a shop did and point out panel gap errors with my homemade measuring device to look like I know what Im talking about. Ignore the fact that I don't know what a bumper cover is. Pretend you did not hear that.
Sad to say the Insurance companies are so far behind in paying for the supplies and the services needed to make all these repairs. Twenty years have elapsed and the numbers they generate on the claims is a two dollar increase.
Listen, most of these cars have really bad gaps as it is so STOP! The paint issues are legit. I’m sure if I looked at the work coming out of your shop I could pick it apart to. Guys like this piss me off. Bad work is bad work but nitpicking is another!
That awkward moment when your picking a gap of 4 mm and 4.5 mm. The other awkward moment when your picking gabs on panels that werent removed. Yikes! Not a good look guys.
+hunkydude322 Thanks for your comment. Just to clarify, this vehicle was not repaired by Parker Auto Body. It was repaired at another shop and brought to us for inspection when the customer was unsatisfied with the quality of repairs.
hahaha I bet it was chris Gilbert at "Chris Gilberts Body Shop" haha.i worked for him one time.he painted slot of stuff outside and never blended.he never sanded only scuffed smh
Hallo apa masi ada lowongan pekerjaan sebagai mecanic dempul dan cat.??? Saya butuh pekerjaan sekarang Saya sudah berpengalaman Mohon infokan kalau masi ada ya Terimakasih Thank you so much

Dodges are notorious for factory workmanship. In the case of these gaps the guy should have brought to attention how the gaps are off on the undamaged side. Agree sloppy paint but this is a Dodge not a Lexus as far as quality of construction. He didn’t divulge the extent of damages but this appears to be a low impact claim.
Since he's a good inspector why dont he become a body worker insurance companies dont pay enough to get all that perfectly done they used to send adjusters now what they do is they send their customers to a bodyshop with their estimates and they tell em if its more money tell the body shop to call us fk that
shit those door gaps were probably worse than that from the factory
😂
😂. I was going to say the same
I own a brand new 57k Jeep Grand Cherokee. Yes the better then my new 20 Jeep

they want everything perfect so they can look good in front of the customer but they don't care if the technicians check look perfect.
the paint, though, is inexcusable.
All cars come out the factory with defects. No car is perfect
I totally agree with you man. In the end of this video he said it’s really bad for small repair and I was like WTF, this guy is ridiculous
Hell they dont even pay enough to at least try to do it perfect i aint spending a whole week on a two day job period lol
All insurance work should be signed of by this guy. He sees repair work in another dimension.
Even if your insurance company is cheap and buys aftermarket parts? Or decides to not pay the shop/tech for everything they do? Or if the corporate shop you took it to has a "we'll make sure you make it up on the next job" mentality when it comes to taking care of the technician?
All signs of aftermarket parts that most insurance companies want shops to use

No excuse for the paint work. But most Dodges off the assembly line are not evenly gapped.
Ben There Those jeep Wranglers are a joke on the gaps. I point it out to people before we repair.
Ninety eight percent of new vehicle buyers really don't care about gaps...they just want a new vehicle.
I would hope that the manufacturer fit standard was emloyed

Plastic bumper covers and metal panels will always mismatch in color, even when sprayed at the same time with the same batch of paint. It's called pigment wick. The solvents react differently to the different substrates.
That could be compensated with very nice paint and clear like the glasurit line
I repainted my sti to the lexus pearl white and it matches perfectly
This is why you use sealer.
paint bumpers on car (stripped) ,last stroke on paint makes a big difference on color, especially metallic.
@@LAfunk750 yes its called a control coat, the metallics literally fall on the surface
Not all clears are equal too. Lower end clear will change the color of the paint to make it look mismatched.
Lol no one ever measures gaps 😂 they eyeball it and make it look even all around
I bet any paint shop that see's this guy coming they probably say to themselves "Awe shit....here comes the guy with the gauges"
This guy has a really good attention to detail. Although I will say on a Dodge Journey a sledgehammer dent would improve the car.

This guy is worse than my wife!
LMFAO
god dam thats funny.
“Windshield wiper squirters” 🤣
Why didn't take hood off baffles me
بہت خوب
Picky, picky, picky. They should do quality check on brand new cars at the dealerships. Gaps are bad. Cars will never come out of a collision repair 100% the same. Restoration shop cars are full of body filler. I want to see these guys do body work. Body techs get all the blame. The real ones to blame are the insurance companies.
you want to see the most mismatched paint between the fender and bumper , visit a honda dearlership
That's the best that Dodge ever ran
Bin in autobody for 10years I can't believe how ppl can have no pride in their work.
Did the same work to my car people beware of caliber collision
It was too cold in the shop were they painted it. And they didnt clean it properly before they painted it.
good job.
Also for you guys.. we have to warranty all repairs to spec for the life of the vehicle as long as the customer owns it. We put our necks out for you..(as your boss) hoping you would care for or customers as much as we do. so have some consideration for us.
90% of bodyshops rush em in and out No time to play with doors and fenders and hoods ..Get them on fix the gaps best you can and move on to the prep and paint ..grab the next car
The other point of it is the detailer needs to catch these problems along with the service advisor (runs blemishs overspray Buffing polishing paint touch up and overall little things...Lights horn Interior clean..Not only from the dirt from the shop but the customers too
I've got a marker pen.
Bumpers and fenders never match. Especially on Pearl colors they are very noticeable even if you blend it still won't completely match.
bumpers never are dead on cause there plastic vs metal panels 2 difference was primer asorb and tint color factory doesnt even color match those
call dodge to complain about those gaps in all fairness, everything else makes sense and i agree with.
Listen, most of these cars have really bad gaps as it is so STOP! The paint issues are legit. I’m sure if I looked at the work coming out of your shop I could pick it apart to. Guys like this piss me off. Bad work is bad work but nitpicking is another!
It looks fine... especially for a base model dodge journey lol
Compound it out. Wax. It will perfect.
Yes he's good at pointing out mistakes, but has he ever even done any body work himself?
That awkward moment when your picking a gap of 4 mm and 4.5 mm. The other awkward moment when your picking gabs on panels that werent removed. Yikes! Not a good look guys.
doesnt this place have a foreman or body shop manager that oversees the finshed product before its retruned to the customer.
+hunkydude322 Thanks for your comment. Just to clarify, this vehicle was not repaired by Parker Auto Body. It was repaired at another shop and brought to us for inspection when the customer was unsatisfied with the quality of repairs.
hahaha I bet it was chris Gilbert at "Chris Gilberts Body Shop" haha.i worked for him one time.he painted slot of stuff outside and never blended.he never sanded only scuffed smh
he is right about the paint but the gaps come on cars from factory brad new if you check the gaps it would be no perfect so
So, did the insurance company re-do the job or did they just declare it to be a total-loss?
Looks like a total loss to me
Well, for all those imperfections or defects marked, it would be a hell out of money to be fixed... so might be a total loss.
Insurance companies want your car totaled bc they make money selling it. They get st least 30 percent after what they pay out to you for a total loss
Hallo apa masi ada lowongan pekerjaan sebagai mecanic dempul dan cat.???
Saya butuh pekerjaan sekarang
Saya sudah berpengalaman
Mohon infokan kalau masi ada ya
Terimakasih
Thank you so much
You shoulder done before and after video to compare all those gaps.
the paint could of been better but aftermarket aint oem welcome to my life as a tech
They should just call aftermarket parts, make it fit parts, That's what they are.
The gaps is fine. Paint with over spray and not matching is no good. Every car I've had in my life had inconsistent gaps in panels new from factory
either you do it right or start over and do it right!
Like dodge does it better?
if you will read the 17 digit vins, 3 numbers at a time, you,ll have 5 sets of numbers of 3, then you,ll always have 2 numbers remaining at the end. guarantees you,ve got all 17 digits.
Such bad body shops get away with bad work because the customers dont notice the flaws.
Since he's a good inspector why dont he become a body worker insurance companies dont pay enough to get all that perfectly done they used to send adjusters now what they do is they send their customers to a bodyshop with their estimates and they tell em if its more money tell the body shop to call us fk that
