I was on Tumblr for over ten years, every word of this is true, it feels foolish now, but every word of it was believed. I was told I could be only sexuality attracted to women and romantically only date men (because of internalized homophobia I know now). I considered myself bisexual, because I was told I was. Despite only sexually into women and avoiding sex with men for years. I was also convinced I was nb, then a man because I desired to wear comfortable clothes, didn't want to shave or wear makeup and had PCOS. Being fluid was the game to be liked and approved off. Admitting being a normal lesbian butch woman was outdated, wasn't attractive and openly closed myself off to men and say I would not conform. It was insidious and evil.

I am convinced that Tumblr was infested with CIA, FBI, NSA, DHS and mossad assets posing as teens in order to spread this toxic ideology. This has been planned since before I was born and I'm 60. Back in the '80s, my intuition was that drug culture was manufactured by the CIA to destroy the New Left and 2nd wave Feminism. Now a book has been written on this very subject based on FOIA requests.

It was the only vid by Magdalen that I've seen with which I've disagreed. I think she underestimated how successful such a "campaign" could be. I also saw Bret Weinstein interviewing a female reporter who had covered both Antifa & the Proud Boys, & she said there were trans "women" in the Proud Boys, which surprised her. It didn't surprise me b/c I'd seen Magdalen's video which featured the MGTOW video. It was interesting too, that she said that as individuals, members of both groups could be polite and non-threatening to her, but when other members of their group were around, that's when they become violent & dangerous. So we have a society of extremists on both sides who are driven by a desire to be part of a tribe, a feeling they are good and anyone who is against them is evil, and plain old mob mentality. Like every person in a romcom. It doesn’t mean I need a flag or label. It certainly doesn’t mean young people identifying as asexual etc should always accept that as an identity instead of questioning where this lack of desire comes from. Maybe but as an asexual myself I can attest that I've always been this way. Porn and pressure doesn't come into it. I feel the same way about everybody as lesbians feel about men and gay men feel about women. No attraction, even a deep visceral revulsion at the thought of someone having sex with me and I'm quite happy about it. It's less stress for me. No worrying about getting pregnant and I never want children either so no need for expensive adoption or IVF either. I still want romantic love even though some asexuals are also aromantic. I just want all the affection and desire in a relationship barring sexual desire and actions. Think Disney movie, shoujo manga, or clean romcom. I kinda look at male and female genitals that aren't my own and kinda get sick when I think of all the fluids and bacteria, same with other people's "holes". When I was younger I wished I could feel sexual attraction because I felt FOMO but then I realized that a cute boy calling me sweetie gave me several times more joy than the thought of climaxing. In my fantasies I loved it when I thought of boys hugging and cuddling with me but all the joy evaporated when I tried to force myself to think of sex in relation to me. Think of a lesbian having fun fantasizing about women and then feeling the joy evaporate when they try to change the imaginary woman's figure into a man's. I hope I could illustrate my point well. @bastet owl I confess I was laughing during the listing of all the varied (non) sexualities - they seem to me to be simply new labels for perfectly normal ways of being. I think the adults in their lives need to talk to them more about relationships (not just sex), since, for example, not being attracted to someone until you get to know them doesn't need a label, it's just normal. Or at least it used to be. Ditto, being attracted to someone until you get to know them. Just so incredibly normal. I'm generally anti-label. For example, at the moment I'm not interested in being in a relationship or in sex, but I just think of it as how I am right now, not as an identity distinct from periods of my life when that wasn't the case. I don't think teen girls are stupid, but I do think that labelling oneself can be extremely limiting.

Helen Joyce has written stuff about the women writing and reading fanfic, but more about the straight women, and I think it'd be interesting to explore the lesbians engaging mostly with a gay male sexual imaginary, thinking about sex in terms of male-style ejaculation, top/bottom dynamics etc.

These are all normal things that young people explore, they go through phases and eventually figure out their preferences but there was no need for specific labels that only limit what's possible. sometimes you discover you like things you didn't think you would, by holding close to a certain label it could cause you to limit your potential.

Honestly, it’s best to just provide a space where she can talk about it, because the more you push a teenager the harder they’ll pull. I think girls always have been heavily influenced by peers. I never was so never became a bully like all the other girls in my class and I was confident to have different interests. Think back to non uniform days in school and girls would still come in in identical clothes and trainers. Women in the workplace and in social settings operate like a hive mind in many situations I see. I go to Meetup’s and the heterosexual women all have the same hair do, similar clothes, don’t seem to have hobbies or interests. Yes, some gay women look similar and there are issues there, but I do find lgbt Meetup’s, the women have more individual looks, hobbies etc. 15 years ago, gay women wore a uniform of red hoodies and denim jackets so we have our hive minds, too. But I guess I see it more with heterosexuals because there are more of them so it is more obvious. Jonathan Haidt has talked about females moving as one as being how females relate, and moving as one when things are going well, and shunning one woman or girl as a form of aggression, whereas men are more physically aggressive to each other. Haidt also talked about the relationship between social media and girls’ mental health in respect to bullying which is female aggression, but also girls go to social media to compare themselves to other girls whereas boys go to social media for gaming. Girls are driven to images, boys to information and gaming, in general, hence the issues with girls’ mental health. He said the evidence is clear.

I remember when fandom was a real-world thing with email, including slash fandom, in the 80s and 90s. I think it avoided this splintering nonsense because it was multi-generational. Occasionally a younger woman would come out with the classic "I feel like a gay man trapped in a woman's body!" but there were women in their 60s in the room who would bring that back down to earth, i.e. "no, you're just a normal woman in a world that hates female sexuality." Now, it seems like the biggest problem with social media is that these young girls just stay in tiny knots of kids their own age and their ideas spin wildly off into left field.
And I'm glad I'm not the only person who sees that the Proud Boys suddenly began wearing dresses as an excuse to hate and threaten women and be praised for it.

Also many asexuals experience corrective rape and harassment from the typical "feel entitled to getting in your pants" crowd that harass lesbians and gay men. Asexuals need the term to build a community and help each other but since their numbers are so low, being part of the LGB in the form of LGBA is the best thing and will help prevent little asexual kids from growing up thinking that they are broken in some way and help asexuals without an in person community figure out ways to date without hurting themselves and/or others and supporting asexuals who might have experienced corrective rape, conversion therapy, or worse. 0 is the physical embodiment of nothing but it is still a number. Asexual people are few in numbers (1% of US population) but they still matter and asexuality still refers to how a person experiences their sexuality. I'm wondering why our side seems to have an issue with "asexuals"? I have no problem with people calling themselves asexual. If you just aren't interested in sex, then what else would you be? We have bisexual for those attracted to both sexes, so why not a word for those attracted to neither? I do think splitting themselves into sexually attracted vs. romantically attracted is a way to be cool, & "queer", & hip, while avoiding admitting that you are just hetero or just bi or just lesbian or gay. We used to have personalities. We used to have sexual orientations. We used to have values & character & interests that all made us unique individuals. We used to have lives. Not anymore. Now everyone is just an "identity" which is boring. No wonder they have to keep making up words & redefining existing words so they can "explain" these "sophisticated" concepts to others who don't have this special knowledge. If that's not a priest class, what is it? If controlling language, turning kids against their families, and viciously turning on people who reject your ideology (esp. those who used to believe what you believe but don't any longer) are the marks of other cults, then why not call this what it is? They have heretics, apostates, true believers, and leaders no one is allowed to question. That's no different from any other abusive religion or cult throughout history who preyed upon the trust of their followers, avoided accountability, and sought to punish "evildoers" (those trying to expose the abuses of, and the dangerous & irrational beliefs of, the cult).

I agree with a lot here. But I think we should blame young people for getting into wacky stuff that they know is wrong. We blame the two 10 year olds for murdering a toddler. Shock is one of the reasons many of the tik tokkers etc are doing what they are doing. It clearly is a way of rebelling and they want a reaction. Also, young people have been through stress before. The Second World War, the Great Depression. Is lgb people in the 1980s and 1990s. We went through a lot of stress.
I can clearly see the fact that teenage girls in the past had issues with eating disorders and self harm and that has been taken over now by changing the body with gender.
I had old fashioned gender dysphoria or as we used to call it gender identity disorder. I wanted to be a man because I had no good female role models growing up, my friends got pregnant at 14, 15 despite all the sex Ed we had, I was bullied by girls in primary school my mother was a violent bully but also a victim to my father and I was not like the girls I was around in temperament and behaviour. I wasn’t vile to other people, I wasn’t interested in clothes, I was more interested in things and not feelings etc etc, I intervened when women were beaten by men in the street but those women still went home with those men with blood running down their faces, I grew up in Blackpool where women prostituted themselves and worked in the sex industry. I saw nothing good in women. I had no good female role models and no friends at my second primary school. I saw men as the winning team, as the kind people, the fun people, the funny people, the intelligent people. I wanted to be on the winning team, not on the losing team with the sex workers and victims. There have always been females who were protectors and sought to protect others who could not see themselves as female because they could not relate at all to the females they saw with their own eyes. Many of these females were lesbian or bisexual. We need to keep women like myself in mind, who are put off being women by the women we see, not because we are scared of sexual harassment from men. I was also sexually harassed by women from around the age of 13 on a regular basis,. Groups of women would shout at me in the street, really full on stuff and offer me money for sex. Women are not innocent in the damage done to girls, including some gay women. But I would say heterosexual women have been the most damaging in my life, especially in the workplace where I have been through a lot of homophobia and it was straight women every time. I have no career because of it. My career was sabotaged completely. I have eeked out a career online teaching where I am responsible for my behaviour and my quality of work.
I know the situation today is much to do with social media, but there will still be gay women like myself who face such hostility from straight women that we struggle to see ourselves as women.

My adolescence predated the internet, and I’ve only just read Laura Bates’ "Men Who Hate Women" and Julie Bindel’s "Feminism for Women". So I appreciate this video.
I didn’t know that asexuality as an identity was created by teenage girls on Tumblr who’d become sex-repulsed by porn, and led to the popularisation of gender identities. But does that align asexuals with transactivists? Not necessarily. As a way of rejecting patriarchal norms, asexuality predates the internet by millennia, and has been advocated by radical feminism, e.g. "The Asexual Manifesto" (1971) and Sally Cline’s "Women, Celibacy and Passion" (1993). Radical feminists, some of whom would describe themselves as asexual, staunchly support the LGB Alliance.
I agree with the comments that it’s condescending to laugh at teenagers’ efforts - however misguided and exasperating - to make sense of the world. And advising them to “get a job, go to uni and move our of your parents’ home” tells them ‘boomers’ don’t know what it’s like to be young today.
That said, I admire the speakers' courage. Women are being no-platformed, losing their jobs and being assaulted for speaking out about the issues they raise.

Thanks for your comment. We never said that the label asexual was created by young people on tumblr but that it was popularised on tumblr and outline some of the conditions that motivated young girls to identify into it. You have to keep in mind on tumblr there was girls as young as 12 who were still going through puberty calling themselves asexual or demisexual. They think they are abnormal or different for not being hyper sexual at such a young age. It relates to gender identity because the same conditions motivated the too.
Our intention was not to be condescending but entertaining, keep in mind some of the topics are very heavy and depressing and we did want to lighten the mood.
And the move out of your parents home comment was not to imply parents can’t relate to their children it was to encourage young people to build their own identities off the internet.

And your sympathy for young people came across clearly in your explanation of the strategies adopted by girls to deal with feeling alienated from their bodies.
I didn't mean to say that you were suggesting parents can't relate to their children, rather that many young people can't afford to leave home. @plurabelle5 Před rokem

There's a difference between radical feminists and gender critical feminists. "Gender critical" is really a misnomer because it encompasses all people who are critical of transgender identity politics - but gender goes far beyond that. There are so many liberals and conservatives who rail against "gender ideology" but believe in gender ideology, i.e. in innate femininity and masculinity, as long as there's no mention of sex changes. Radical feminists are gender abolitionists who are also critical of the sexological model of "innate" sexual orientation - see Sheila Jeffreys' Lesbian Heresy and also work by Julie Bindel on this. LGB Alliance on the other hand sees sexual orientation as innate identities, as they mention during this talk as well. Radical feminists like Jeffreys explicitly reject the idea of bisexuality, so it is a stretch to say that we are staunch supporters of LGB Alliance - at least ideologically. Within this gender critical movement against extreme transgender ideology, we are allies since we have the same enemy.

51:20 It's important to remember... that these ideas came from isolated lonely angsty teenage girls.
I don't agree. Clearly the theory came from academia, and then was filtered down and only then amplified by the group you mention. Many of those you quote are clearly in their twenties and such an age range is more likely to have acquired the Butler-lite theories.
Also I think you should jettison the whole left vs. right language. This makes little sense these days particularly in a world where both the main proponents of so called trans-rights and opponents such as yourselves are on the left. In the UK the Conservative Party is the only one holding back self ID at the moment and even there you have Teresa May thinking it's a good idea. I'm not saying you should ignore the weird cult groups such as 4Chan. They are distinctly unsavoury but the reasons transcend their being right wing. There are after all purveyors of conspiracy theories across the spectrum. JDK etc

You claim that it is totally okay to have genital preferences and I do agree but does this keep you from falling in love with a trans person until you know about that? No. So you would feel romantic attraction but no sexual attraction. And besides this special case.. You know that there are people hooking up all the time without any romantic attraction, right?

Asexual is a term which refers to amoeba - not humans. All humans are sexual. Sexual creatures have only two sexes: male and female. So there are only two sexualities: male and female. How individual people express their sexuality, as: heterosexual (normal), lesbian, or gay men, or whatever - that's a different matter. Even so: gay men are still men; they still have male sexuality. Also: a person such as a monk - who abstains from sex - is not "asexual" - they are abstainent. It's a pity the gay and feminist movements confused so many people by talking about "sexuality" as if it were a thing we are - other than our male and female essences. Because, today, there literally are men who think they're women; and women who think they're men.
In short: there is no gay or lesbian essense; there are behaviours. There are lot's of people who are so fixated on their identities that they can't see the forest for the trees.

I don't find these sorts of things funny, just exasperating, and fake laughs are great tools to fake smile, make myself "charming", or otherwise pretend to be normal/likeable (edit: even when i'm uncomfortable).
