Had a chance to hear the maroon school live back in 2015 and it was literally shaking the ground, even on their lower notes. It looked like the gentlemen weren’t even trying and that was the most scary part.
These guys the school across from them and SU has the top three sousaphone sections in that conference. Good stuff from both. One gave you the high notes and the other gave you the middle and bottom of the horn and both matched intensity. Good battle to both
JSU was def the better band over all. But as far as this tuba battle BCU tubas are solid . Dark rich sound. They pumping from over 100 yards always. JSU tubas missing notes in upper register .

Intonation, balance, blending, etc, all of those things can easily ruin a band if they aren't properly maintained. JSU is well known for blasting their horns and over playing other sections within their band. That isn't a good thing, especially since college bands are held to a higher standard compared to other educational institutional bands. BCU consistently maintains a full and balanced sound with every song.
