My problem's that my handwriting is actually really really good, but my pen holding technique is bad. My hand cramps up,, I can't write for long because my technique puts extra pressure on my palm.
We have the same problem i can see a hard and thick line in my palm when i write long notes and then my teacher would litterally tell me that im a slow writer but actually I'm fast I just take some short breaks because of that :')

This is the only video I've seen of anyone writing the way I normally do. Everybody always thought it was strange but I find it to be easier because the pressure is evenly balanced on the pencil. Nice to know someone likes this way too 😛

Try doing it often and try to write something using his technique.

Appreciate this. I have a lot of trouble with cramping and now I have confirmed that it is because I hold the pen too tightly. But this shows why the pen itself makes a big deal about your writing, too. After all, you can't write well while holding the pen loosely unless the ink flows out really well. If a pen requires pressure to work, you are going to be obliged to hold the pen wrong. This is probably why people like fountain pens so much.

So I’m 16 and left handed. Starting this year (2021) I am learning to write with my right hand, to hopefully become ambidextrous one day. I’m basically starting from the ground up. Wish me luck, I feel like a pre k student lol. 😅

I know many use your way of holding the pen, and it is a very good way. But you should not write by forming letters with your fingers or hand. Your fingers and hand should remain firm, and you should form the letters by using the large muscles in your forearm, and even in your upper arm.
This allows far more consistent control, prevents cramping and fatigue, and allows you to write for hours at a stretch.
I know this takes some training and practice because very few are taught how to properly write in today's world, but it really is worth learning.
I had no idea that I have been using bad form in writing.

Since childhood,I didn't know how to hold pen that's why I was not able to finish paper within time .I tried a lot to write fast but my fingers started paining and my speed of writing fall down.this video gives me a idea of holding pen in a right way. Thanks for this lesson! I had really nice handwriting a while ago, then it was like I have forgotten how to properly hold the pen or pencil. Since then I've struggled to find a comfortable and firm grip. My thumb, in especial, seems to be harsh and constantly pulls the pen from the other fingers. I just don't know how to relax the thumb and at the same time improve my grip for a firm and precise handwriting.

I have been experiencing the same thing but I am trying to recollect myself again ,,
I was suffering from tendonitis when I tried to hold pens in this way some months ago, since then I have been much more comfortable and got much more stamina and concentration in working.
Now I can just do more and better work and of cause, earn more money.
Maybe you just made a video that not everybody likes, but you could have improved a man's career greatly, really appreciate.

Here I am at the age of 27 years still preparing for competitive exams. Finally realising the importance of a fast and legible handwriting. Just as good looking people have certain advantages, so does handwriting in exams.
Anecdote : as a kid everyone subconsciously learns a grip that is comfortable. I too obviously had grasped one. But since 5th or 6th standard, I made a huge mistake. I always admired handwriting of a senior in my school who was probably in 7th or 8th standard. He used to hold his pen way above the tip of pen with his index finger and middle finger for support and pressure while the thumb finger for holding the pen not at the tip of index finger but way above around the mid portion of the index finger. So what? I copied his style, it worked till my colleges. But now neither my handwriting is aesthetic nor can I write fast.
I can understand your issue. I suggest you find your own grip and spend some time with it. I hope the regular practice will solve your problem.

Yeh nobody taught me how to hold pen growing up. Been holding my pen for the last 20 years with thumb and index finger only. I thought i was fine. Until reality hit me with the long theory exam with 100 marks with only 3hrs. I couldn't finish or barely finish my paper with horrible handwriting that too with a severe pain on my index finger.
I hope i can learn this way of holding pen soon

I’ve been studying multiple handwriting books, and according to all of them, there is only one way, and yours is wrong. The pen should rest on top of the middle finger. You should not be using the middle finger to control the pen. It causes too much tension.
i'm using my index finger to control the pen bro. And my middle finger is working like a support for the pen :)
Pi for breakfast, one of the best writers I’ve seen held her pen like her hand was a shriveled claw and the pen was a weapon to stab her prey. But what came out was the most consistent, beautiful writing. Each to their own.

Pi for breakfast, the latter. She could have been writing utter nonsense as far as I know, but it sure looked pretty. After years of a doctor’s scrawl, I retrained myself to use Chancery Italic as my daily hand, and as part of retraining I chose to change the way I hold the pen. I now hold it the “right” way, and in fact that now feels natural to me, But while my writing is much better than it was, I don’t come near to my friend’s grace and precision and, as I say, she “holds” her pen like it’s an instrument of torture.

Nice video but in my opinion I actually write better when I’m comfortable when I hold a pen of pencil. I hold my pen and pencil very strange and not normal and I am one of the people with the best handwriting in a lot of my classes. So for me it depends on how comfortable my hand is. But keep up the good work I bet this helped a lot of people
I would suggest sit the pen on your middle finger (on or just before knuckle) This gives greatest range of motion and control
Simple test: draw a circle keeping your palm fixed to the edge of a workbook and try the different hand positions

I hold pens totally differently. Its like a variation of the first grip you showed 0:45 but with only my index finger and thumb. pen resting on the index finger while the index finger, upper part of thumb and lower part of thumb holding pen in spirally triangular shape while pen also touching the area between my thumb and index finger joint.
I can write for a long period of time without straining my thumb.
Edit: And i have good handwriting (good but can be improved a lot)
That is why I have mentioned "There is no hard and fast rules to hold the pen"
If you feel comfortable, that is the proper way for you.
