  • VISUAL FIELD DEFECTS IN GLAUCOMA
The video talks about the various field defects specific to glaucoma. The video explains the arrangement of nerve fibres in the retina and optic disc and explains the type of field defect associated with each fibre affected.
The arcuate fibres are the most susceptible to glaucoma and the nasal and papillomacular bundle is the most resistant to glaucomatous damage.
The field defects in glaucoma can be non specific and specific field defects.
ISOPTER CONTRACTION, BARING OF BLIND SPOT, ENLARGEMENT OF BLINDSPOT are non specific early glaucomatous changes.
The more specific glaucomatous changes are the PARACENTRAL SCOTOMA, SEIDELS SCOTOMA, BJERRUMS SCOTOMA, ARCUATE AND DOUBLE ARCUATE SCOTOMA, ROENNES NASAL STEP.
The advanced glaucomatous field defects include the TUNNEL VISION OR TOTAL VISUAL FIELD LOSS.

Derringer scotoma name is given because it is taking the shape of derringer pistol(handgun)

That was a brilliant lecture -probably the best lecture Ive seen on glaucomatous visual fields. Everything explained so well. Derringer field loss is so called because of the shape is similar to Derringer hand gun.
I am an optometrist in UK and I have been following you for past few months. Thank you so much for all your amazing lectures.

Seidel’s Scotoma is also called a derringer Scotoma due to its resemblance to the derringer pistol.

One of the best videos very nice ! There is one thing not mentioned here is masala scotoma the criteria to define the nasa steps there are two which I honestly didn't get in some other video I watched in your tube and landed up on this video to see if it's covered here but found the arrangement and charting of visual field defects is so so systematic and beautiful I really liked the way you arranged all the defects in hierarchy so beautiful it is !
