The overall sound on Frogstomp is absolutely killer.
I know it’s got such a powerful tone and clear tone 🤩
Silverchair are an Aussie band won a radio competition when they were in highschool
school
When I first heard the chair it absolutely changed the direction of my life.
Silverchair is from Australia and the album this song is on is ‘Frog Stomp.’ Great band. Diorama is their best album imo.
Frog Stomp that's it! Thank you!
I 100% agree. Diorama is their best album. One of my top 10 of all time
Neon ballroom is mine😋
Haha nah Frogstomp is where Silverchair ended as an amazing Aussie band, and from then on Daniel Johns shit all over their future and ruined them. So Frogstomp is their only real Album :)
@@shaneb1982 Nonsense. They grew with each album and they created masterpieces every time.
They are 15 years old at the time of Frogstomp in 1995.
#10
I LOVE THIS BAND!
Their later stuff is more artsy and experimental...their entire catalog has grown on me. Daniel Johns is an interesting fella.
I adore Silverchair and live very close to their hometown in Australia. They won a radio music contest and released tomorrow when they were only 15. It went straight to number 1 in Australia for weeks and had a huge impact on Aussie youth. My favourite song is freak but the first song I actually heard from them was cementry and was the first music single I ever brought, i was 10 years old. For more reactions I definitely suggest the songs Cementry, Anthem for the year 2000 (sounds a bit outdated talking about the year 2000 but the message is relevant as ever, and it is a GREAT rock tune) and Ana's song (song the lead singer wrote about his battle with Anorexia). I Also suggest the slightly later released songs straight lines and greatest view (Not my favourites but really show how their sound evolved). The band split in 2011, the lead singer has had problems with mental health, anorexia, arthritis and some controversies with drugs and drink driving etc. I believe he has been quite unwell for many years however last year he released a solo album that briefly went to number 1 in Australia. Ive never met him but when my younger brother was about 10 years old he was near his house and knocked on his door and asked for a autograph using a poster he pinched from one of my teen magazines. My brother passed away 10 years ago when he was 21 but we still have the autograph/poster.
Daniel never did drugs ever, only alcohol. Your 1st song you like is Cemetery, not cementry, so you obviously aren't a fan if you can't even get the songs right.
If he did or didn't it was still a rumour that was part of the controversies surrounding him and wow, I made a typo big woop 🙃
Iconic You said Helmet, Because once the band was compared to Pearl Jam they said no More Helmet
Frogstomp was a great album and they were all kids!! Teenagers!!
Funny about your comparison. Silverchair received a lot of praise and were compared to Pearl Jam when they broke into North America. Their response was that their favourite band was actually Helmet.
That's a damn fine band to have as your favorite!
I saw them live in 03 and it was amazing, my first time hearing them I was 5 and I was hooked from then forevermore.
This is definitely off their first album frogstomp but oh my how much did silverchair mature and evolve into one of my favorite bands releasing one of my favorite albums of all time: Diorama.
I remember this band getting a lot of “heat” for trying to rip off Nirvana’s sound and looks, and it sure does sound like Outshined or another Soundgarden tune.
Perfect timing for posting this video, Shane. I was trying to get psyched up to work this Friday morning then a notification came through about this video. I paused it, cracked open a beer, and starting the day!
God bless you, my friend…
Band released 5 albums, which most went no 1 in Australia. Lead singer Daniel Johns has 2 solo albums out, which are vastly different to Silverchair stuff. He writes alot of music for others. He has a more pop RnB sound now. They split up while making album no6 in 2010. They will never get back together as drummer Ben and Daniel haven't spoken in over 10 years. Daniel is pretty much a recluse living in his big house high on the hill overlooking the beach with an inbuilt studio setup. His most recent work is in the form of paintings, and he held an exhibition in Sydney. He has also made a movie about his life " What if tomorrow never happened?" Which will most probably be out on Apple or something soon.
I remember the song - haven't heard it in eons - but not the video....and agreed that it is very Soundgarden-ish. You can never go wrong with a heavy half-crunchy, half-sludgy bass....well, maybe you can but it sure does work well here. Great 90's throwback pick! 🤘
Others have already said it but they grew exponentially with each subsequent release, shedding those “grunge” influences… Neon ballroom, diorama and young modern are all GREAT albums… Diorama is one of my favorite albums of all time… I always want to request “without you” or “the lever,” the most rocking tracks… sadly, no albums since 2007 (that I know of)
I frequently go down the Silverchair wormhole. My first exposure was SNL in 1995. Kurt Cobain died in ‘94 and I remember thinking that I was looking at some kind of Aussie reincarnation. A lot of people suffered with Kurt’s loss so even though the comparisons weren’t justified, Silverchair provided a small measure of unintentional relief from the end of Nirvana.
While just teens, they made great cool artsy videos, yet the live stuff was the best. Although their shows eventually added keyboards, the sound they brought live with just three guys was amazing and unique. Raw teen grunge that helped prolong the grunge wave.
Daniel was the perfect front guy (good looks, mad vocal and guitar skills) but publicly fought his anorexia demons (Anna’s Song).
Eventually fame caught up with Daniel and rattled him to his core. He’s a very interesting dude with more art inside him than any one human should be blessed with.
Eventually the talent overwhelmed him. He’s doing ok today, but there’s no way Silverchair could recreate the magic.
Beware the silverchair wormhole. It will suck you in.
Wonderful comment!!
Oh, and check out Emotion Sickness...EPIC!
gonna do it for ya, you know the drill gonna be a bit but I am gonna do it for you my dude
THAT is so fucking cool of you, Diablo!
The song is emotionally heavy, though. "Slave" is a banger...off of their second album called Freakshow
It's Like HANSON had a Metal Baby.... lol
I've heard the name but have never listen to anything from them until now. I'm going with an OK with this one.
Im going to hell with the sweet lord satan was the most amazing part of your reaction. It is exactly how most of us react to ads. Brilliant 😂😂😂
Shane you should try listening to green machine by kyuss
love that song! can't remember if we have done the video or not, or do they have a video? wait.....just checked NO we have not done the video.. gonna do it for ya Alan! hold tight!
Lacuna Coil. Very good band. 🤟🏻🤟🏻
This takes me back brother…would ya check out “I Don’t Mind” by Drain (STH)….some hard jamming chics. Thanks Shane!
Great song/album by a total female Alice In Chains as I called them, and one of them is or was married to tommi iomi the godfather of all metal guitar 🎸
Thats exactly right Mr. Espinosa. Saw them open for Megadeth back in the day. Great show.
No Daniel the lead singer went solo
never realized how much the soundgarden influence, and evil the lyrics are
The irony of Americans having no clue about what the meaning of this song, is delicious... Especially in the light of October 2023. _/edit_
Israel’s son is about the crucifixion of Christ…it seems like you didn’t quite catch that 😄 btw, I LOVE the sludginess. Love this album. Bye bye…won’t be back. Won’t listen again 😆
Okey dokey!
Sorry bro, but as of September 2023, Daniel Johns(lead singer) is piling shit onto the other two for being jealous and shit, and Chris and Ben, (guitarist and drummer) are writing a Silverchair book to air their side of the story without him. So no happily ever after.
No he hates the Jews apathy! Not yours bro. This song is clearly about Israeli slaughter of Palestine, all the way back in the 90s
