    Regarding loading data twice, you can right-click on an entity and choose whether to "Enable Load" in Pro. Reference is another option.

    Looks like the premium capacity is the way to go with data flows. Thank you for the comparison Ruth! Can you do another video where you connect your entity to Azure ML Studio and run a quick experiment? Connecting clean/refreshing data to a ML model only to be pulled back into Power BI Desktop will be a game changer for self service advanced analytics.

      Funny you ask! I though of doing it in this video but it was already too long. Got to do it on a future video!

      The ones I deleted, the columns that you can expand to join with other tables.
      You should be able to see me delete them.

    Hi Ruth, thanks for your video! It helps a lot! :)
    At the moment, I am exploring Power BI dataflows.
    I have a question, maybe you can help me.
    I created a new Power Bi dataflow where my data source is a Google Analytics site, throught the "Blank query" connection type and it works. However I need to know what I can update the data, because I gateway is not available and I tested as your example and I give me an error! Thanks in advance :)

    Thank you, Ruth. What's your experience with local data and gateway? Most of the datasets that I deal with are flat files on our network drives, and I have not been able to successfully set up any dataflows with them due to a credential error (although the credentials are correct). I wanted to see if you have had any issues as well. (and I'm so jealous of your access to the premium account...)

    Hi Ruth, Love your video. I think that most of us will be looking to move our core Power Query functionality out of PBI Desktop and into a Dataflow (so that we can then share best practice), so I've been trying to understand the current limitations of cutting and pasting between Advanced Editors. Currently, the biggest issue for me is that I cannot use Parameters in a Dataflow. Without that, I lose a whole range of configurability in my M code. I'm sure that Microsoft will be adding more and more into what we can do, but what other problems/limitations have you found when porting functionality across into Dataflows?

    • @CurbalEN
      @CurbalEN  Před 5 lety +1

      It depends on the subscription, the pro subscription is quite limited...
      Microsoft needs more time to develop dataflows, but their release cycles are really short, specially in the cloud, so you won’t have to wait long :)
      /Ruth

    • @GHRichardson
      @GHRichardson Před 5 lety

      I agree about the release cycle length - very agile! I'm using a Premium license, but I still think that we're 6 - 12 months away from having functional parity between Desktop PQ and PQ Online...

    • @CurbalEN
      @CurbalEN  Před 5 lety

      Difficult to say how long it will take, but you are probably right, 6-12 months sounds reasonable.
      Great that time flies ;)

    Ruth: I hope you can shed some light, and maybe a video on connecting workspace datasets with the datasource, which in this instance is an excel workbook.
    I am using Power BI PRO subscription. I am getting the following error:
    Your data source can't be refreshed because the credentials are invalid. Please update your credentials and try again. and then follows the message:
    (admin has granted access, credentials are not required) I am not the only person having this issue. I see posted in Power BI community the same questions. I don't know how to resolve it which renders the dataflow scenario useless. Thank you. Robert

      @@CurbalEN Thank you so very much for your reply. I did post on issues.powerbi.com There are many many posts from users on this same issue. I have spent hours looking for a solution. I have searched through blogs and searched many videos. Something is wrong with my endpoint connection. I have a Power BI PRO account and requested support four days ago, but no response from MS. It is probably a simple solution. I can't understand the credentialing process. The strangest thing is, I am getting an error that says my credentials are invalid followed by the statement that credentials are not required. What can that mean? Makes no sense to me.

    • @dasrotrad
      @dasrotrad Před 5 lety

      Ruth: Microsoft did respond to my support request after 4 days. I am delighted to say, that after two hours on the phone, the issue was resolved by removing my gateways and creating new gateways. The Technician told me I should be saving a recovery key during the process of creating a new gateway. I never saw any means of doing so. So, if my gateway becomes corrupted again, I won't be able to recover and will have to go through the process again. There is a lot to learn about gateways and dataflows. I hope you or other MVPs will continue to address how to structure this environment so we mere mortals can use it. It is scary for me for when a client wants an updated report, for now, I can't be sure I can deliver. With all that said, I am very grateful to you in particular and other MVPs in general for all the support and training that you and your colleagues generously provide. Your humble student.....
