  • The New Yaesu FTM-6000 radio has a PMG that is so easy to put channels into and so easy to access it's a real asset to this little radio.
Try it to make your favorite channels immediately available without having to scroll through all the channel you have programmed into memory.

Very nice radio. I purchased it and I really like it, especially the bracket; now I can take the radio with me inside when I spend the night at a hotel since the bracket has a sliding rail easy in, easy out. I also purchased the RT Systems software and programing cable and everything is working wonderfully.

Karin, thank you so much for the hint with names of channels! FTM-6000 is very nice radio but some settings are beyond logic :) Hello from Moscow, Russia! 73!

I like this radio. However, I would rather have the memory banks like the FT7800 / 7900 and the FT60 etc..

I can't seem to find anyone explaining how to manually program for repeater opperation in this radio. The opperator manual is worthless.

The offset direction is under the menu you find by pressing F once and scrolling. Offset amount is under the menu you find by holding F and scrolling. That’s also where squelch settings are. TN is encode and TSQ is encode and decode.

@@ironmatic1 I bought a NIFTY mini manual from N6FN's Nifty Accessories on line. It explains easily how to do everyrthing with this radio. I highly recommend it.

Can this radio be modified to monitor MARS?

It should monitor right out of the box. Now, transmission is another story and will require a modification. Which frequency are you after? If you are trying to listen and the radio is modified, it is recommended that the receive frequency is in the ham band so if accidentally transmits in error that you will at least be on a legal frequency.

@@RTSystemsInc Hi and thank you. I misspoke (typed) my question. Pretty sure it will RX GMRS but I am interested in being able to modify the radio, like so many other radios, so that it can TX in an emergency.
This is basically a back up plan to my back up plan. I am licensed in both, W6RKW and WROB543, and I carry both HTs in my jeep while off road. For years now I have told every new four-wheeler I meet, "If you get a HAM license I will buy you your first radio." So far, none have actually taken me up on it - (however, one is currently studying and sent me a screen shot of a practice test so I still have hope).
Anyway, no one wants to put the effort in the get a HAM license and while a GMRS license is only a form and a fee, very few want to do even that amount of work but it seems they ALL carry and use them off road.
I'm looking to possibly mount an actual mobile unit into my jeep even though the HTs are working fine for now and just thought, if I am going to have a mobile unit, I might as well get one I can open up to GMRS just in case since so many other folks out there are using it.
I still think that, for me, the HTs are a better fit because in the case of a true breakdown, I do not want to be stuck trying to TX from my jeep which is busted down in a canyon somewhere. I like the option of being able to walk to the top of a hill. But, if I am going to have a mobile unit hard mounted into my jeep, I want as much emergency functionality as possible.

This radio receives from 108 to 480 almost continuously. Really wide receive on that unit. This range should surely cover MARS frequencies. This is right out of the box. Now if by monitor you mean transmit, you will need to complete the MARS modification on the unit to enable that ability.
