Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth star in Academy Award-winning mastermind George Miller’s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” the much-anticipated return to the iconic dystopian world he created more than 30 years ago with the seminal “Mad Max” films. Miller now turns the page again with an all-new original, standalone action adventure that will reveal the origins of the powerhouse character from the multiple Oscar-winning global smash “Mad Max: Fury Road.” The new feature from Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures is produced by Miller and his longtime partner, Oscar-nominated producer Doug Mitchell (“Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Babe”), under their Australian-based Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner.
As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.
Taylor-Joy stars in the title role, and along with Hemsworth, the film also stars Alyla Browne and Tom Burke.
Miller penned the script with “Mad Max: Fury Road” co-writer Nico Lathouris. Miller’s behind-the-scenes creative team includes first assistant director PJ Voeten and second unit director and stunt coordinator Guy Norris, director of photography Simon Duggan (“Hacksaw Ridge,” “The Great Gatsby”), composer Tom Holkenborg, sound designer Robert Mackenzie, editor Eliot Knapman, visual effects supervisor Andrew Jackson and colorist Eric Whipp. The team also includes other longtime collaborators: production designer Colin Gibson, editor Margaret Sixel, sound mixer Ben Osmo, costume designer Jenny Beavan and makeup designer Lesley Vanderwalt, each of whom won an Oscar for their work on “Mad Max: Fury Road.”

CGI effects worry me a lot. There are places where it looks very bad or is overused. I hope I'm wrong. Fury Road was one of the best movies I've ever seen, I hope this one doesn't embarrass the first movie.

This movie is on a much bigger scale without having a bigger budget. Also, effects companies are currently inundated with work right now and not as up to the task as they were 10 years ago, so I imagine the effects ARE of a lower quality than Fury Road. Still looks better than the FX in most modern Marvel movies.
It's also possible that some of these are unfinished shots.
The CGI in the middile of the trailer looked amazing.... oh wait that's Fury Road.

Unfortunately not. A lot of desert (in Namibia) was hurt to make Fury Road.

I thought the same. Look at 0:24, and the bikers look like they are floating. 3D is not horribly bad but the composition is... (I work with video compositing)
It's cgi heavy and not Practically done like ALOT of fury road is. Very sad Miller chose the cheap and easy route for the follow up to one of the best action movies ever made. Looks fake and cheap, because it is.

@@floridianslipyou do know that a lot of this stuff is done in India right? Dune VFX was also done from an Indian VFX company DNEG it won best vfx at the Oscars. The reason it’s bad here is probably time constraints and too much reliance on cgi.

Same, I see people on here making fun of him, but they forget that we had Corpus Colossus, The Master, and the Mechanic in Road Warrior. I commend George Miller for disabled representation in his films. There was also that guy at the end of fury road, who was quadriplegic.
I'm honestly happy for the kid. He deserves to be in a film like this honestly. And hey, George Miller already has disabled representation in his films, so that's an extra plus!

I've read there's a 15 minute scene that took 9 months to film. I don't think it would've taken that long if the whole thing was filmed on green screen.

@@jeffw8218 what exactly are you trying to imply? its a minute and half long trailer, the shortest of the 3 thats out, with a couple of seconds worth of reversed moments from Fury Road, if this was some gimmick used in every trailer then 'not a good sign' would have some weight behind it. And I can't think of any examples of other subjectively 'good' films doing this, but you haven't exactly given out any negative pointers for why its problematic that this trailer is trying something 'different'. all its doing is just elaborating that its a prequel to Fury Road, its not that big of a deal in my opinion

@@ultraviolet540 It’s been pretty obvious to me from the first on-set photos that Dementus IS the Bullet Farmer, as he appeared ten-twenty years earlier. Hemsworth’s prosthetic nose is clearly modelled on Carter’s nose, and his hair colour matches Carter’s. THAT’s why footage of Carter - a fairly minor character in Fury Road - is so prominently featured in the trailer.
@@fromchomleystreetDementus’ death has been talked about in other media, it’s obvious Furiosa will kill him at the end of this. The Bullet Farmer knew Joe before the war, and helped him take the Citadel, his name is Major Kalashnikov.
Since Fury Road I was interested in those places which weren't even shown. Just the names alone were enough. 😂

Usually not a good sign when they’re using the first movie to sell the second one. We know it’s a prequel. We don’t need to see shots of fury road. The first one I’ve seen so many times. The replay value is tremendous. That’s a lot to live up to.

I think Dementus is Furiosas dad and he stole her back from her mother, which is why she's in a cage with a bear. I think he attempted to raise her as his own but she rejected him for killing her mother.

This movie has come after a long strike in Hollywood which led to massive layoffs and lack of budget and time for proper vfx. A lot of crunch time and frequent concept changes are also a big reason. The studio also worked on dune/Dune2 where the budget and quality was maintained.
LoL I swear, at 1:00 of the trailer, I first thought I saw a TALKING EGG! 😂😂😂😂 But then I looked at it again and was even more shocked to see it was a PERSON. 😂 the cgi is pretty bad. Hope they fix it before it is released fully.
Mad max are known for being practically practical but due to how harsh it is for the actors during filming and as said before me, the strike. This film CGI are noticable

That's why I'm so excited! I'm obsessed with the game & still play it over & over again. And after hearing Hope talk about Dementus & finding his tomb in the game, I can't wait to actually see him in action.
The Mad Max game was based loosely on the scripts for Fury Road and Furiosa, which were written at the same time, and originally intended to be made together.

Fury Road is almost 10 years old and looked so much better and grittier and just kind of more balanced in style. This has some awful green screen shots (1:00 WTF) and looks over the top.

there's no green screen, if you check out the on set photos, this movie was shot outside for the most part, they do have to cgi in the wasteland, because Australia doesn't have deserts like that

I see people in the comments complaining about Chris Hemsworth's voice. But they also don't like it when actors always act exactly the same in every movie. So I think it's great that he is trying to make Thor & Dementus 2 completely different characters. Gotta give him credit for actually "ACTING" and not simply playing himself like so many others always do.
Agreed. I always thought he ended up with a reputation as a 'hunk' (fair enough, he's a good-looking man), but he's also a genuinely good actor.

I pray to the wasteland gods that Miller gets to do a proper Mad Max/Hardy film set after Fury Road. I hear he wants to make the Max prequel story to Fury Road first. Those who’ve read his prequel graphic novels will know it’s about that little girl who kept holding her hand up to her head in Fury Road. He is haunted by that story. But, I would prefer post FR Max coz we already know what happens coz it’s in a graphic novel. Surprise me with a Dune 2 level epic apocalyptic last stand in the wasteland Mad Max film. Do it for Cap’n Walker, mate.

They did use some CGI on fury road. Its well documented.
They used plenty of practical effects in this one as well. But it would be virtually impossible to create the wasteland without the CGI. And it also adds to its charm. It's not necessarily realistic, but it maintains the cartoonish spirit of Fury Road.
