Learning to shut out distractions and give attention to the one task is certainly necessary. Multi-tasking is the surest way of not getting work done!

@@stephentraversart Thanks. I‘ve enjoyed every lesson that I‘ve seen in your series (not enough of them, I‘m still full-time in my job). I‘ve sketched in something close to your style all my life but never with a teacher. Art was excluded from my academic stream at high school in Auckland, as if art does not require thinking (along with everything else it requires). Your comments on life experience contributing to the skills needed are so true.

Very thoughtful and succinct tips...you're such a great teacher. I especially liked the tip about being the student & teacher; I've never thought of it like that but it's so true. Thank you

What was the title of the video that you talked about how to critique own work if going the self taught route? Or link to it.👀

I disagree with you. You can take voice lessons but you will never sing like Pavarotti. You weren’t born with his vocal cords etc. Artists brain see more in a picture than we do. That doesn’t mean we can’t learn to improve our skills and draw better but just like some are gifted at math -even from an early age. Most math genius’s parent’s will tell you that their child had these skills at a very early age. They weren’t lea4ned skills-they were inherit. I bet you also had pictures hanging on the wall when you were in the first grade. Not a learned skill but a skill you were born with. You are an art genius and can only impart so much of your skills with us but I’m so grateful for your insight and help

I think my comment about the long legs and basketball concedes the Pavarotti aspect. It can be difficult to make a point without so much clarification for exceptions that the original point is lost. I believe for people learning to draw thinking about talent is an unhelpful distraction ( because nothing can be done about it whether it exists or not), and can stop us working at learning a skill. Thanks for your thoughts on this, much appreciated 😀
