I'm kinda a slow reader, I read about 30 pages per hour (depending on how much I fangirl/cry during that time) but I still try to read at least 50 pages a day, more, if I have more time
same
Finally i find someone that reads about 30 pages per hour like me
Me too
Alpina YT I normally read quite fast if it's easy books with medium amount of words on a page, I once forgot my book to shool and in school we always have 5 minutes reading at the start of a lesson and I got Charlie in the chocolate factory because I forgot my normal book war and peace and I read 21 pages in 5 minutes which is about 252 pages an hour but now I'm reading war and peace and the book has very small print so I only get to read about 2 or 3 pages in 5 minutes which is about 24-36 pages an hour
Same here
I needed this because my life is basically a reading slump
Same! A lot of people read 5,6,7 even 8 books a month and I'm like how ? I read 1 book every 4 months it's sad :(((
Hannahreads4fun at least you are reading. When you are ready, you can add 1 book extra! (of you want)
namjoonsillegaldimples don’t worry same :(((
giuliatalkstoomuch ikr
I think it’s just laziness and we need to overcome that,,
What I do is I keep 2 bookmarks in my book. I have 1 bookmark to mark what page I'm always on. The 2nd bookmark is to mark the closest 50 pages. Basically, If I'm before 50 pages, I have my 2nd bookmark on page 50. Once I get to page 50, I put my 2nd bookmark on page 100. I hope this helps people!
that's exactly what I do ..this really helps and also when you are done reading you really feel you have accomplished something.
Thanks!
Same!
I read books so slowly at first, and I after I get into it for a few chapters, I zoom through the entire thing, but that only happens if I really love the book.
I'm the same way!
Sage Roberts same
Me too
That’s the problem though. I shouldn’t have to really love a book to get through it fast.
I read about 50 pages an hour but that's not my problem. I get distracted pretty quickly. Aside from subvocals, my brain would sometimes think of other things... Grrrrr I'm just so annoyed at myself.
@scrapped baby same..
Still faster than half a page a minute.
@@MaricaAmbrosius still faster than a page in 5 minutes
Samee, so relatable!
Thats not bad! But, im 11 and i active read for the past 4 years. I could already read at the age of 5 and already speak a other laguese ( English isnt my first languese) And now i can read 1 book that has 200 pages in 3 hours, and still understand what the book was about. So if you wanne read faster, you need to read EVERY single day! Or at least once a week. These are my tips, so maybe it doesnt work for you. But i hope you liked my tips! I will make it easier if you don’t wanne read the whole thing.
Tips :
-Read every single day
-set a goal, like you wanne read 50 pages a day.
-read a section of a text, and tell to yourself what it was about. It really helps if you need to read books for school!
Thats all! Bye
While I'm reading, I am not aware of the voice in my head (to call it that). And the moment I notice the voice, I really am starting to read slower which really annoys me..
Lukie Primadonna it is called sub vocalizing
I know it's so annoying but you can actually learn to get rid of it
ThatClassy Girl how
me too
Lukie Primadonna i feel you bookdragon
Lukie Primadonna Same, it's really annoying
I love watching your channel because it makes me want to read more!!
same thing
omg same here
TO ME, THE FACT THAT YOU CAN READ 100 PAGES A DAY IS INCREDIBLE
Karina Cole I do! 50 in the morning 50 at night or 20 in the morning 10 in the evening 20 before dinner and 10 at night in the latter I read 60 when I'm in a little bit of a slump or I have a busy day
+Ruthie Rails well that's amazing in my opinion. I wish I had time to read that much
Karina Cole That's a little for me I read 2 books and half a book like read 200 pages
the only reason I can read that fast is because I read anytime I can at school. I will even hide a book under my desk when I am supposed to be listening to a lesson. (I do not recommend doing that because I have gotten in trouble multiple times for that). I wouldn't really consider myself a fast reader, it's just that I read a lot so I can get through books faster
One time I read 400 pages in a day
Totally agree with eliminating the voices to read faster. I have done that and hence, am able to read faster.
Indian Booktuber
What was your method? Just constant practice? It sounds hard for me.
Atalinay Yes. I was a person who used to read loudly when I started off. But that took a lot of energy and obviously slowed me down (at that time, this wasn't the main concern). So, I began with that voice in my head and then slowly tried to get rid of it. What worked for me was that I practiced this on easy young adult and middle grade books. The language was easy so i could read fast anyways... it allowed me to read faster than the voice and soon... the voice was gone. It will take a lot of practice but once it's done, it's amazing.
Do u've you tube channel too?
Watching this video in 2019 and reading your comment. Happy to see you here. (I'm Indian and your subscriber too).
I loved this, it was so helpful! Also your bookcase is soooo pretty ahhhh
You are terribly smart and beautiful!!! I am a snail reader so this really helps. Thank you
Honestly I don't want to read any faster at all. I love spending time on a book and I don't want it to end so reading faster would ruin this for me. Good video though x
I find when I speed read I'm not reading deeply and picking up on all of the deep themes that makes me love reading so much. I find speed reading is fine for people who read for plot and for action rather than the stuff that makes you think. It'd be like reading Fault in Our Stars just for the romance rather than for the gorgeous message it has and I agree with what you said about retaining the information. I always enjoy books more when I take my time with them.
I used to read so fast that one day I finished a 700 o something pages of a book in two days. Now I read so slow that I'm too lazy to grab a book. lol
my speed is like 10 pages per hour
I really LOVE what you said! When you try to read insanely fast, the joy of reading is compromised. (I get you 100%! )
I am suuuuch a slow reader. And my brain can't process reading more than one book at a time haha. So this is ideal for me, thanks Hailey! 💗
I only struggle to read efficiently because i prefer reading books on history and engineering/science.
I appreciate this advice
Her bookselves are soooooo gorgeous. I adore the layout
Eliminating my reading voice! That sounds awful, I wouldn't enjoy reading if I eliminate that voice. I'd rather read slow than not enjoy my book.
I am a very slow reader. It took me a month or two months to finish a book
I try to read it so thoroughly and get all the information in my head that it takes me ages to finish a book and I feel like I have skimmed a book or not read it properly sometimes so I have to go back and read it again. IT'S SO FRUSTRATING I wish I could just not worry about remembering every single detail. Especially as I am reading like five books at once.
If the book I'm reading has 300-400 pages or so it takes about a week for me. If it's 400-500 it'll take about a week and a half or two. It doesn't only depend on page number but on what events I have during that week which causes time difference. I don't really care how fast I read, although I do wish I read faster, but if I enjoyed the book and got s good understanding, then I love it.
Love your hair and make up!!! And thanks for the tips! I will try grouping and I like the reading goal!
I love how you do your hair now!
I read about 3 books per week why am I watching this 😂
dani27ela same here haha
So you can read 6 book a week! haha
It depends on book. I don't think anyone can read "War & Peace" by Tolstoy or any other long classic saga in a week, at least without missing some clue moments.
dani27ela how???? lol
Lol, you're so right.
I personally love listening to classical music. It helps a lot with setting the tone and speed of the book. It also helps me visualize what I am reading in my head and makes it feel more of a movie than a book.
Reading goals really help me with larger books. When I was reading A Song of Ice and Fire, I set a goal for myself to read 50 pages every day. Some days I read more, some I read less, but it made these books less daunting and I'm really happy I read them!
Most of my reading I get done on the subway/bus. Where I work is about 40 minutes away by transit one-way, so I make sure to set aside that time to read. And then I find this helps me want to continue reading when I get home instead of going on Netflix etc.
She is my interior design inspiration.
thanks Hailey this was really helpful 😄
love your hair
love these tips!
I freakin love your hair it is gorgeous
Thank you so much for sharing! I will start using these tips from now on!!! XD
I love your shelves 😍😍 and great advice ! 🌞✊🏿 I use the physical book mark method aswell :)
Thanks for your tips! They were very helpful xx
Thanks for the tips! I definitely understood what you were saying about speed reading too.
Thanks Hailey for the great tips :)
Thank you so much!! This is really helpful. I have been trying to figure out how to read a little bit faster, and still enjoy reading. I’m excited to try out your tips
thanks for this because i'm such a slow reader! i usually read 2 books a month, but i'm also in high school so i don't have too much time anymore :(
Q&A please soon!!!
I love your hair
really helpful
I feel like when i stop subvocalizing i'm not actually internalizing anythinggg haha i can do it and read faster, sure, but i stop reading and i have no idea what i read lol. Love your videos!!
Sofia Seguel I don't know what I'm reading without subvocalising. I just can't remove it but I don't want to remove it anyway. It really helps me but I guess we are all different 😀
Oh my i love/ i envy your bookshelves.. 😍 and i guess i was arranged by colors. Love it.
Thank you for this video! I have a lot of required reading at the moment, so this was a good watch for me!
Thanks. I will definitely try out your tips! 😊
Thanks, it's really helpful.
I don't think I've ever been a particularly fast reader, but since I've been trying to read more, some of these tips are really relevant to me. I already have been trying to make time to read before bed each night (probably need to make it earlier so I'll stop going to bed so late when I know I have to get up early for work the next morning :P), but after watching this, I may try setting actual reading goals for myself.
Also, I try to squeeze in extra time to read throughout the day if possible. I'm usually pretty busy at work, but sometimes when I have the chance, I'll try to read during lunch. I finished a book this past week mostly by doing just that.
Great video!
What I am doing right now to read: one video from hailey in bookland (to inspire me) one chapter in book
the cutest 🥺🥺🥺
This is seriously the video I've been waiting for from you! Everytime I'm on Goodreads and I'm all "Yeah! I read 3 books this month!" I see that you've read 20 and then I think that you're actually a wizard.
This is perfect for me since I am in the middle of a read a thon!
An idea on how to track your progress on reading faster:
You could set a timer for ten minutes. Read at the normal pace you would, and see how many pages you read in those ten minutes. Because you are reading more and more, the number of pages you read should hopefully increase as you time yourself more. Hope this was a good idea :) xx
Thank you for this video! Also you are gorgeous ☆
Thanks Hailey i really read slow but when I saw this video
after it i borrowed long books then I just returned it tomorrow or two days after thanks
Really u r fabulous. thank u so much.
That's so helpful❤
You look like hailee steinfield and interestingly your name is hailee too!
ImLameu tm i'm glad i finally found someone on the comment section say it 😂
I'm glad I found who I was thinking Hailey looks like! Thank you 😄
The bookmark trick is great! As I read my last book I tried it, but it was so interesting I couldn't stop at the mark :D
Thank you for this vid and you are correct, make sure reading is kept fun. I think the pressure from seeing people read 17 books a month pushes some to try to obtain a higher goal as well. But then it may take the fun out of it too.
Its cool how your books are color coded. I what to learn how to increase my natural reading speed. Sometimes I feel like I can hear that voice in my head lol
Thank you for making this video. I myself am a slow reader (but I kind of like that). But these tips are good and helpful.
These tips were so helpful!
I'm very good at dnf'ing books because I hate it if I have to work my way through a book that I don't enjoy!
I could read more if I didn't get caught up watching haul and collection videos... But I just love them so much :D
Bookcase awesome!!!!!!!
omg your pop collection is over whelming
You're so pretty!
I'm definitely going to try setting goals! Maybe I'll put one sticker every 50 pages or so!
Thank you Beshywaps
Vey helpful video! Thx:)
I read at a speed that I can enjoy and understand at the same time... Reading faster means nothing if you dont enjoy it
I love your hair, it's so pretty!! Jealous♥️😒
Another tip for reading faster is sounding the words or reading them aloud. Try it !!
ill try those tips I usually do the tip with the finger going over the words or I my mo told to try to skim the books some times
Wow she is very helpful, I really like reading fast, but still understand the story. Like Warriors I really really like the story and I really like reading them fast. My friend read two of them before I even finished one/:
my biggest tip is to read on trains/busses. I commute to Uni every day and I force myself to stay away from my phone during the journey. i get around 70 pages done on my way to school every day!
POV you’re watching this instead of reading your book
Wow your background !
THANKS A LOT, MY LOVE, PRETTY GIRL, GREAT TIPS, REALLY HELPFUL.
I read at school mostly, and I read before bed as well. But lately I have been reading JUST at school and I'm not finishing as much. I also use the bookmark thing and it helps loads !
Reading fast isn’t really a good goal. It’s better to learn selective skimming. There are always parts in a book that are uninteresting, irrelevant to the plot, side stories, or predictable. Also don’t read every single word. The best hint I ever learned is to read each side of every line in your peripheral vision. Changed my entire reading experience
I honestly don't like reading too fast, I find that if I do I won't be paying full atention to the story, I will miss out on parts that were supposed to be read very carefully and I won't enjoy it as much. Also, if I read a book super fast and skip to another one I find myself forgetting the previous book...
I'm a guy, but to be honest, I am so jealous of your hair! And thank you so much for the tips: they really helped.
I read quiet fast... I can read a whole book in a day...i did it some days ago..
Love the tips! Also, could you please tell me where your sweater is from? I really like it :)
I really like to take my time with books, I hate to rush. However, by tbr pile is so huge and full of YA novels that I'm afraid I'll not enjoy if I don't read them before I'm 25 or so that I just feel that I should be reading so much faster!!
Hey! I'm early. I love your videos. I really like reading and you are a big inspiration. Sorry for my english I'm from Argentina
Okay so this is another way thats rlly effective (for me at least)
I mark every 5 chapters. So i put pieces of paper as marks for every 5 chapters. And read one section ech time take a small break and continue. If the book is very interesting and i cant keep it down I'll do 10 or 20 chapters each time. I can't read continuously so this rlly helps me. I kind of do this to every book i read. Its like a goal. I did this when I was having a throne of glass series reading race with my best friend and she was already two books ahead of me but i still won so. Hehe.
Really helpful :-)
I read 50 pages a day! It really helps but recently I started reading 90
Thank you so much made this video for us
It is really help full tips i will really do in my practical life
From india
I loooved your tips! my daily reading goal is at least 100 pages too, but once I've accomplished it, I usually set another goal hahahah
And I was soo surprised to know that I do the same thing with the bookmark, putting it some pages ahead! I didn't even know it WAS a technique!
I would love to meet you at the meet Up but I'm from Brazil and it's a little far from Toronto... ;P
I'm guilty of burning myself out too haha. Over the summer I read 18 books in 2 months which is way more than my normal reading pattern and in the end I couldn't even look at a book. I haven't read a thing in about 2 months now. :(
I read out loud and it helps
I was taught to read with subvocalization too! It’s hard to eliminate it, I feel like I don’t retain the information.
There are times where I keep a littl calendar with me and record how many pages I read daily...for some reason when I do this it tends to inspire me to keep reading. I use a nonsticky post it to mark where I start the day, and use a reg. bookmark as I read, so it is easy to record.
That sound pretty effective. I'll try it, even though I'm sure it'll make me anxious if my page count decreased.
Yara Saad Well, it probably wont make you feel that great unless you can get over that and feel good about knowing you will have good reading days and bad reading days...and its all okay!
I'm not sure why this was recommended for me, but I wish I was this interested in reading. Also you're really pretty! Ugh I just skim my textbooks and take word for word notes in google docs for my online classes for exams. It's boring :/ I couldn't do well on a test just by reading and not taking notes. CTRL-F is my friend. 😂 I read when I was younger, but I eliminated any detailed descriptions of the setting and stuff like that because it never interested me. I can't think of any books I liked besides A Series of Unfortunate Events.. I don't like reading anything with small print that is age appropriate (considering I'm 25).
My school make us read for 20 minutes every day even in quarantine and I'm trying to read for fun but it feels like a chore because of school
