Vintage Nikhil Banerjee. Soft, suave, delicate like the light of the dawn, caressing his strings with tenderness. No showbaazi, no frills, no audience- friendly sawal-jabab with tabla, no look-at-me trapeze with the sitar like some maestros. I also prefer this mat-finish, subdued Nikhilbabu than his glossier 80 avatar. The photo rightly depicts him.
I fully agree with the views expressed by Sri Ranjan Ghosal in his comment about Pandit Nikhil Banerjee. He was a worshipper of music and devoted himself sincerely throughout his life to that end. He always tried to play his Sitar in any public function for his own satisfaction and not for entertaining the audience. But the audience were never deprived also from their opportunity to hear the devotional music ,rarely heared from other contemporary professsional artistes of Sra Nikhil Banerjee. He was an exceptional genius.
Alap and jor portion played by the maestro is always something like meditative. Nikhil Babu's seriousness enabled him to raise the level to such a great height which is something very special always and leave an impression on the minds of his audience .
such a great rendition. NB is the best- always so thoughtful and earnest. he is my favorite sitar player in the lower register- really takes his time and extracts nuance and atmosphere.

What a gem! All music lovers should be grateful as I am. And what is missing is a full length bilabal and Sarang. Have a brindavani but recorded poorly from audience hence badly resonating. Your mighty resources might help in getting some.
Sitar Sunne se mansik Rog theek ho Jaate Hain Man Aur Chittshant rahata hai aur Har Karya Mein man lagta hai Isay rozana sunane se manorog theek ho Jaate Hain
Taj Mahal banwana asaan hai, lekin Nikhil Babu ki Lalit jaisa Lalit bajana asaan nahi hai. Gudai maharaj ki tabla ki bhi koi jawab nahi.

Glad to see a fellow music lovers who shares views like this...which i feel is becoming lesser and lesser as days goes by.
Feels like having lived an entire life through this piece and born again, still listening to it....Truly mesmerising!
Nikhil babu ne Baja di hai ye hansi Lalit, Jise sunkar hum jiye ja rahe hain.
I think Pandit ji is playing the surbahar...
Mesmerising ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
