I love the scattered laughter right at the onset of the sketch, from people who clearly recognize the set immediately.
Pretty sure they are laughing at Charlie in the Columbo coat.
The fact that Charlie day played Kramer in the Seinfeld episode on "It's always sunny in Philadelphia", adds even more to the joke
Does it really?
It was a clip show episode actually

Let us not forget Jason Sudeikis’ as schmitty :)
Always sunny is the best sitcom besides
Maybe curb , they’re both 1a and 1b in my view , ever. Seinfeld broke the mold first but sunny took their formula and made it a little more blue collar and it’s just the best

I hope Elaine wasn't one of them 😟
He was correcting the “Fieldstien characters” thing and explaining Hitler. It sounded weird but it wasn’t an error

Did you mean you only like Always Sunny because they parodied Seinfeld?
charlie day has on two seperate occasions portrayed a character who is doing a kramer impression

This is a nigh on perfect 3 minute and 50 second sketch, especially for those who love Seinfeld. When Charlie Day comes in as Kramer I had to rewind and watch that over and over again, cracks me up every time. Jason was powerless against that.

Holy Ovaltine, this was a great comment.
@@Itsmytest SNL is BEYOND TERRIBLE since the 90's, ...it takes having a host that is EXCEPTIONALLY funny to have had less than a handful of decent episodes since then. Charlie Day IS one of those hosts, ...and its because HE is an incredible comedic wtiter himself, that, I guarantee, would stick to ACTUALLY BEING FUNNY and writing funny skits, ...and NOT ...FORCING SOCIAL AGENDAS DOWN OUR THROATS!
This is a great example of how to incorporate classic Abbott and Costello styled comedy into a sketch. It's done perfectly, and only works so well because of the chemistry between Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day. 👏👏👏
This IS TOTALLY like an Abbott and Costello bit

This was a lot funnier than I had any right to expect.
Why not?
Yep. Ol' Columbo always knew more than he admitted.
Accurate depiction of "no TV" people.
yep pathetic morons who watch tv stuff on pc and phones
There was a comedian who talked about a girl he knew who always bragged that she didn't own or watch tv. One day she understood the conversation about a tv show and excused it that she watches it on her computer. He said a computer is like a super tv. But yeah, basically watched ALL the shows, but thought that since it was on a computer it was different.

The detective is like a hybrid of Constantine, Columbo and Al Pacino.
I was looking for a comment like that, thank God I wasn't the only one to think of that
Man it’s really amazing when two actors really do their job on this show.
guest need to have this kind of opportunity on snl. charlie day are one of those that get to do several sketches as a main character, not like side characters that somehow seems like if their character wasnt there, the sketch can still work.
I think it depends on their ability to act. I grew up watching SNL through the 90's and early 2000's. Like when The Rock was on SNL he was pretty much the lead in every skit. Alot of the people they get on here now days I don't feel can carry the skits.
Charlie's a seasoned comedian, so they can use him as the starring role in sketches. Sometimes when the guest is not a comedian, they don't risk putting them in the lead roles of the sketch, but use them as side-characters.
I think they just take a note of the acting range of the host. Adam Driver is a great example of a non-comedic actor coming on as a host. He hosted twice and it was amazing both times.
@@hanalec8472 Actually, he hosted three times
This reminds me of that guy whose life was literally saved watching a baseball game because they accused him of murder & he was seen in the background of a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode. LoL
