Just wanted to say thank you! Yes I'm a straight guy, I paint and tie fishing lures, and have had problems with the designs bleeding when I try to top coat them for protection and durability. This reduced a lot of frustration when you spend 15-30 minutes painting and its ruined! I definitely appreciate such a simple, practical explaination from a lady. Thank you tremendously! - Jarrod
Hi Kelli, I’m a really big fan of yours, I like how you do nail art on short nails, because most people have short nails (like me) and think they can’t do nail art, but you have so many cool designs for short nails. Thank You!
I saw you do the trick with the quick dry drops and literally went and woke my hubby up to tell him. He totally didn't care, but I was pretty damn excited. Genius!
A thing I recently started doing and it 100% changed my nail art game: use matte top coat. I use the 99 cent Wet n Wild matte top coat. Whatever ingredient it has or maybe whatever ingredient it lacks, it just does NOT smudge my nail art. Then if I want, I follow with a shiny top coat like Seche Vite. But if you use the matte, you don't even have to let the polish dry 100% first.
I want to see a dollar store review (preferably Dollar Tree)! There's a huge selection of colors, tools, and decoration and they're actually not half bad. I'd like to see what you can do with it and your honest opinion of the formulas.
Yes I love this idea! I’ve been meaning to go to a Dollar Tree and buy some stuff but I just haven’t had time haha. New Years resolution- finally do the videos I’ve been meaning to do!! Lol
Yes! I would love to see a dollar tree review! Im in Georgia too! Cobb county here! Lots of MUA do dollar store/dollar tree makeup review and challenges however very few nail pros do dollar tree reviews.
Well she has reviewed the brand Believe, which sells exclusively at dollar general. I know that's not exactly what you're looking for, and dollar generals don't exist everywhere, but maybe you have them, idk. They were quite amazing polishes considering they run btwn $1 and $2.50. I was impressed with the variety of different lines they have. I had to buy some right away. I bought 6 and still spent less than 1 bottle of Starrily. (I'm not trying to dis Starrily; I love them. They're just pretty expensive, like most indie brands are, but well worth it.) Videos like Kelli's review of Believe remind me not to give up on cheaper polishes all together because brands are constantly coming out with new and/improved formulas and colors. I was looking for a cheaper red for xmas(because I'm not generally a huge fan of red and didn't want to spend $10-$15 for one) and I found Sugar Sugar 839 by Sinful Colors for $2 at Wegmans, and I love it. It's perfect for what I wanted, and I actually do think I will wear it again, surprisingly.
Lol, I just realized how old the video and comments are that I replied to. So my response may be completely irrelevant now. Lol, sorry. The video just started playing and I assumed it was newer and didn't check. I do remember thinking in the beginning "oh, kelli changed her hair again". I guess not tho, lol.
Omg! I too have just discovered the fast dry drops. Mine are a drug store brand called Essence. LOVE THEM! But I never would have thought to use them on nail art - I always use it on my top coat. So brilliantly simple!
When I put Nail Polish on, I normally would have to wait at LEAST a Day before putting Top Coat on....But, ever since I got INM's "Out the Door", It's been so much easier!!!
I just love how it dries my polish in seconds!! I'll definitely buy another bottle once my first one runs out....Seche Vite is also a fast-drying Top Coat, but not as fast as INM's Out the Door Top Coat!!
YAY! I'm glad you're back! You seem like you're well rested and ready to take on the world! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas (or whatever you celebrate cuz that's cool too) and New Years! I'm looking forward to seeing all the awesome content that you create this year! Quick side note: I loved your holiday french manicure nail art so much that I had to try it out for myself! One hand turned out really nice but the other one, not so much because it was my dominant hand. You've also inspired me to try other types of nail art and to come up with my own designs! Thank you for spreading your nail art knowledge with the world!
Hey Stacy, thanks so much! Honestly I was so worn out by the end of the year, I’m glad I took some time to get back to being myself haha. And I’m happy it shows! I still have trouble painting my dominant hand sometimes, but it gets easier with practice for sure.
I didn't believe I had to wait sooo long for the art to dry and am glad you talked about it - now I know 20 min is normal! I think you're the first nail art CZcamsr who has actually said how long they wait for their art to dry. Thought it was just me! I have those quick dry drops but haven't tried using them before the top coat. That makes total sense. Looking forward to trying that!
HI Kelli!! I've missed you so much! The purple eyeshadow is amazing on your eyes! Thanks for this video. I hope you had a great Christmas and New Year! :*
I missed actual nail videos like these 😭😭😭 thx for bringing them back! What a perfect start of the year hehe. Your makeup is lovely! And yeah thats what i was going to say, loved how your nail polish matched your makeup hehe. I loved your shirt too! #teamgalaxygang haha! Super useful tips, what you said about the layer and the brush made perfect sense and i had never thought about it before. Love you kells, and happy new year to you too! Hope this year is full of amazingness and magic in your life! 😊✨☄
Kelli Marissa Would also be cool to see a list of lotions who’s moisture actually lasts and overnight lotions that are maybe to oily to wear out but are good for major dryness. Even dIYs if you use any.
Welcome back Kelli! So glad you said something about the quick dry drops, because I just got some in the mail today (came in a sample pack) and was thinking meh, but I will try them now!
Happy New year Kelli!! Thank you for those tips! I will admit I've never tried the dry drops before so I might have to give them a try some time. What I like to do after I paint my nails is before they dry all the way I put on quite a bit of nail oil over the whole nail and even thou I'm still really careful not to ruin my fresh mani I haven't had any smudges or dings. I guess it's kinda like the nail hack you tried with the Pam cooking spray.
Happy New year! Your back and look amazing as always. Love your eyes. Thanks for the vids. 😊 I love it when I absolutely love what polish you have on, look to see what it is, and realize I own it. 😚🤔🙂☺️😊😄😄😄
I’m so glad to see you back! Most of my nail art is hand painting with acrylics, so I don’t have a problem. I’ve been wearing men’s shirts and tennis shoes for over 20 years. The shirts fit my chest better. Plus, they’re made better than women’s.
Amazing tips! Thank you very much! I really need a tutorial of your make up in this video though. Really beautiful! Hope u hace a great start of the year!!💪💪
SOOO happy the "101" series is back! I've been wondering why my art smudges, even when I let it fully dry.... didn't know that the bristles touching it will cause the polish to bleed down. Thanks for these tips!
I definitely agree with all these tips. What I explain as allowing the brush to essentially "float" over your nails and nail art. Which avoids the brush drag and smear. Is the best tip you gave. Although I too am an advocate for the drying drops. It's magical!
Happy new year! Great video. 🤩 Video 101 request: can you do one about your suggested nail art tools? Like easily accessible dotting tools or brushes, clean up brushes, stencils, etc. I used to use the elf concealer brush to clean, but i can never find the orange one anymore. I can only find one with brown bristles and that one seems to clump up with acetone after two or three uses. Im on the struggle bus lately. Halp!
a few tips that of my own; 1 i only paint one hand at a time, let it dry completely before doing my other hand so i always have a usable hand if i have to do something while painting my nails. 2 i dont have a nail dryer so sometimes ill use my hairdryer on its lowest coolest setting, or during the summer i use my air conditioner because i have a window unit.
Awesome tips and you're totally right I live in the south now but I'm from Colorado it's very dry there the high desert and Polished drives like in California 10 minutes here in the south on my God it's like a half hour and it's still sticky definitely matters where you live thanks Kelly for sharing
great tips melissa...😘 i was really in need of this..coz i m soo into stamping lately bt my top coat alwys ruined my work..😭 thnx a lot dear..😍😘 btw Happy new year...💗
Happy new year dahling! Did you go on vacation? Anywhere fun? I've been hibernating in my bed for weeks. Ugh. Quick dry drops are the bomb. I bought about ten bottles last time they were on sale! OMG I always buy men's shirts, and I also wear men's cologne. Good to see you back! Can't wait to see what you have in store for 2018! Peace ☮ out brussel sprout! Love you ❤😘💋
I watched Nail Career Education on CZcams and it's called floating when you use a lot of top coat so it don't smear your work 😊 and thank you for all your awesome video's☺
Thank you for the tips, expecially the one about watery top coats. My seche vite is almost finished and I would like to try other brands because i love sv but sometimes it shrinks and ruin the design. Now I know how to choose another one.
Kelli Marissa eheh I get that, at the beginning it looked like a miracle to me (used to low quality and cheap brands) sure it is good but now I understand more about nail products and I would like to try something else, but I haven’t found shops that ship to Italy at good prices.
Born Pretty Store has an awesome Smudge Free Top Coat that I swear by. It's thin but doesn't smudge the nail art even if you touch it with the brush. It also drys fast! I love it!
Happy New Year Kelli!! Love your fun fact!! I do the same. I got 2 old man cardigans at the thrift store and I love them and wear them all the time. Wanna get some men's dress shirts and wear them with a cami. Comfy and cute!! 🤘🤘🤘👍👍👍👍🤗🤗🤗
I really need to remember the directional top coat. I know you said that before, but I forgot it when I did some candy cane nail art. One thing I've found is a good idea is to wipe off the top coat brush if it's a "bleeder" sort of color. The first time I used a top coat after wearing a certain indie bright strawberry polish, the clear top coat looked a slight bit pink.
Glad to see you back! I do have something I'd love to see you address - what is a "plumping" topcoat? I've been looking at one that says it's "gel-like" and "plumping". But I don't know what that means. Help me Kelli!
In regards to tips #2 & #3 - that's the main thing I learned to prevent smudging. Basically, I "float" (picked up that term from Christine lol) my top coat over my designs so the only thing touching the color is the top coat, no bristles. For tip #6 - I can't always afford nail drops but I find that anything with a good oil base works (except cooking spray/other culinary items). I use various different oils on my hair (vitamin E, Vitamin B, keratin) and I'll spray some of that stuff on when they're half dry. They don't actually dry my nails, but they definitely protect everything while they're drying. Sinful Colors also makes a quick dry top coat and it's only $1. Only problem is.. gotta use it in VERY thin coats or it'll turn everything (nail & cuticle) white and it's pretty unsightly. Wiping it off won't get rid of it either. I also dry my nails & harden my polish quickly by dipping them in ice water for about 5 minutes. It works so well. My fingers are frozen afterwards but it's definitely better than sitting around for half an hour between coats! :-P
Hey Kelly! I loved ur videos but all i wanted to know is can u suggest a good and perfect top coat for Indians and can u plz share the link of it also.
Not touching nail art with brush while applying top coat makes complete sense. I get it. I do the same. Great video. 😊thanks PS- I can't stop looking at your eye makeup. Wonderful job.
Happy new year Kelli! 🎉 I think it's so cool that you buy men's clothes! Apart from shoes (when I could find a small enough size which isn't often) I haven't done that so far. Which is a shame really cos I hear such good things about men's jeans compared to trousers aimed at women?? (E.g. the "pocket situation") But I'm kinda not brave enough to go into the men's section... 😅 It's silly I know. Maybe that should be my new year's resolution haha ^^
hehe yeah I worry about "baggy in the wrong places" too - but I guess it can't hurt to try at least once ^^ - Complete change of topic: do you have experience with the UNT peel off base coat (or possibly another peel off contender)? Cos I'm afraid it may be the only way for me to use nail polish anymore because of health reasons 😭 (I shouldn't use polish remover and acetone for cleanup is a no-go as well) (I still enjoy your videos a lot though - living the nail polish life vicariously ;) ) PS: the waterbased peelable polish you reviewed would be the "last resort" (but kinda expensive to invest in a whole new set of polish bottles) - since I have a bunch of "normal" polish already it would make sense to just get a good peel off base coat. (For swatching I've done it on liquid latex before (I can recommend it for that purpose btw! 😁 ) but ofc that really only sticks to your nails for a couple of hours, maybe a day tops if you're really careful.)
I always used to dent my polish before it was completely dry. Then I found out about seche vite fast dry topcoat and that has worked wonders for speeding the process up. And never seems to smudge my nail art designs.
LOVE that color on your nails!! I have an issue with my thicker top coats/quick dry top coats getting gunky and it's nasty to apply. Any tips on how to prevent it fix that?
Kelli Marissa I did specifically look at the formula of the top coat online to make sure I bought the correct thinner. I added a few drops, but I'm thinking a few more would do the trick. Kinda glad I was on the right track. I luck out every now and then! 😂
when doing some stamping nail art, use water based top coats first and then you can add some other top coat if you want. I found that all other top coats smudge my design no matter how long I leave it to dry :)
- Jarrod

I’m so happy to hear this! It’s totally possible to have awesome nail art with short nails and I’m so glad I can help people realize that :) :)
I saw you do the trick with the quick dry drops and literally went and woke my hubby up to tell him. He totally didn't care, but I was pretty damn excited. Genius!
I can’t believe I’ve gone so long without using them lol! Amazing.

That’s crazy! I’ll have to try it.
Omg I just tried this and it worked. THANK YOU!
NEVER would've thought to do the top coat in any other direction!!
Very happy to see you back!!! ❤️
-what eyeshadow are you wearing?
Ahh this was a few different palettes actually haha! The blue was a lime crime dupe :P
I want to see a dollar store review (preferably Dollar Tree)! There's a huge selection of colors, tools, and decoration and they're actually not half bad. I'd like to see what you can do with it and your honest opinion of the formulas.

That does sound like a good hack for drying!
This was an awesome video! Amazing job! Happy New Year! Loved the hacks, very helpful!
Thank you so much Ansley!!
Happy New year! Your back and look amazing as always. Love your eyes.

Ahh thanks so much! And yes I love this color too haha!
Yay! Welcome back!
Happy New Year!
Hey thanks Stephanie!! :)
I’m so glad to see you back! Most of my nail art is hand painting with acrylics, so I don’t have a problem. I’ve been wearing men’s shirts and tennis shoes for over 20 years. The shirts fit my chest better. Plus, they’re made better than women’s.
Acrylic paints? That’s a smart idea!!
The men section is lit if you're looking for cool graphic tees! Glad to see you're back. I've missed your videos.
I agree! The women's ones are either too girly, too pastel, or both IMO.
Haha agreed! I think the patterns on guys clothing are way more visually appealing. And I’m glad to be back :)
Amazing tips! Thank you very much!
I really need a tutorial of your make up in this video though. Really beautiful! Hope u hace a great start of the year!!💪💪

Love this idea, Karin! Will def do a 101 video for it. And same on the elf brushes :( I wonder why they changed them.

Yeah! Happy New Year!
Thanks for the 411 on the nail polish 101 :-P
Haha happy new year Jeanne!!
That eyeshadow tho... omg. You have to tell me what it is. It’s GORGEOUS.
Haha thanks Jessica! It’s a whole combo of stuff tbh, but the bright blue is a palette dupe from lime crime!
Great tips Kelli! By the way, lovin' your eye look! 😍 Wish you all the best for 2018, hope you'll have an amazing year! 😊
Oh thank you so much :)
WTHHHH OMGGG IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VID LUYYYYYY
Yayyyy!! :) :)
Hey Kelli! Happy New Year. Great video - it's heartbreaking to spend ages on awesome nail art, then smudge it with top coat. Life can be so cruel!
Haha agreed! I am too impatient for top coat too often!
Glad you're back! Your makeup is super pretty, btw. Can we get a tutorial pleeeeeeeease?
Hehe thanks Heather! I can do that!!
Love the matching eyes and nails! I am also a fan of men’s clothes (and shoes too)! And BTW you always make sense to me. 😁 Happy 2018!!!
Hehe I’m glad I’m not the only one! Happy new year!
a few tips that of my own; 1 i only paint one hand at a time, let it dry completely before doing my other hand so i always have a usable hand if i have to do something while painting my nails. 2 i dont have a nail dryer so sometimes ill use my hairdryer on its lowest coolest setting, or during the summer i use my air conditioner because i have a window unit.
Yes I also do one hand at a time haha! I hate having both hands painted and wet at the same time!!
Kelli Marissa like what if i get hungry spending all that time painting my nails? lol
Beautiful eye makeup!
Thanks so much Rebeca!!
I've been so afraid to put on polish *after* dry drops. Now I'll try it!

Thanks so much Carmen!!!
Happy new year dahling! Did you go on vacation? Anywhere fun? I've been hibernating in my bed for weeks. Ugh. Quick dry drops are the bomb. I bought about ten bottles last time they were on sale! Hey! No, didn’t go on vacation haha, just had to take a break from social media for a bit :) xoxoxo!

I watched Nail Career Education on CZcams and it's called floating when you use a lot of top coat so it don't smear your work 😊 and thank you for all your awesome video's☺
Thanks for sharing, Danielle!!
Thank you for the tips, expecially the one about watery top coats. My seche vite is almost finished and I would like to try other brands because i love sv but sometimes it shrinks and ruin the design. Now I know how to choose another one.
I used to swear by seche vite! It’s the best drugstore brand. Now I prefer buying them online!
I love it!
I haven’t heard of it but I’ll have to give it a try!!
I ❤ you so much Kelli!
Love u too!!
Happy New Year Kelli!! Love your fun fact!! I do the same. I got 2 old man cardigans at the thrift store and I love them and wear them all the time. Wanna get some men's dress shirts and wear them with a cami. Comfy and cute!! 🤘🤘🤘👍👍👍👍🤗🤗🤗
Yess I love men’s clothes haha!
That’s a great tip Sarah! Thanks for sharing.
Glad to see you back! I do have something I'd love to see you address - what is a "plumping" topcoat? I've been looking at one that says it's "gel-like" and "plumping". But I don't know what that means. Help me Kelli!
Hey Kim, I’ve honestly never heard of plumping top coat but it sounds like BS to me, LOL
Thanks for sharing your tips!!
Hey happy new year🎉 lol but love ur eye look great job 💙💜💙💜💙
Hehe thanks Frances!
Hey Kelly! I loved ur videos but all i wanted to know is can u suggest a good and perfect top coat for Indians and can u plz share the link of it also.
Not touching nail art with brush while applying top coat makes complete sense. I get it. I do the same. Great video. 😊thanks
PS- I can't stop looking at your eye makeup. Wonderful job.
Happy you enjoyed! And thank you so much :)
Great suggestions! Tfs
:)
Happy new year Kelli! 🎉
I think it's so cool that you buy men's clothes!
Haha I’ve heard the same about pockets! But I worry that their pants might be too baggy for me, I tend to stick to leggings lol
hehe yeah I worry about "baggy in the wrong places" too - but I guess it can't hurt to try at least once ^^
- Complete change of topic: do you have experience with the UNT peel off base coat (or possibly another peel off contender)? Cos I'm afraid it may be the only way for me to use nail polish anymore because of health reasons 😭 (I shouldn't use polish remover and acetone for cleanup is a no-go as well)
(I still enjoy your videos a lot though - living the nail polish life vicariously ;) )
PS: the waterbased peelable polish you reviewed would be the "last resort" (but kinda expensive to invest in a whole new set of polish bottles) - since I have a bunch of "normal" polish already it would make sense to just get a good peel off base coat. (For swatching I've done it on liquid latex before (I can recommend it for that purpose btw! 😁 ) but ofc that really only sticks to your nails for a couple of hours, maybe a day tops if you're really careful.)
Kelli you look so beautiful in this video!
Oh wow thank you so much :)
you are very welcome Kelli :)
I love your eyeshadow
Thank you so much :)
I always used to dent my polish before it was completely dry. Then I found out about seche vite fast dry topcoat and that has worked wonders for speeding the process up. And never seems to smudge my nail art designs.
Seche Vite changed my life too haha!
LOVE that color on your nails!! I have an issue with my thicker top coats/quick dry top coats getting gunky and it's nasty to apply. Any tips on how to prevent it fix that?
Yes! Once it’s about halfway empty it tends to get goopy. I like to add several drops of thinner and roll it around in my hands!
Kelli Marissa I did specifically look at the formula of the top coat online to make sure I bought the correct thinner. I added a few drops, but I'm thinking a few more would do the trick. Kinda glad I was on the right track. I luck out every now and then! 😂
Can I just say your eye make up is just measuring 😍
I’m glad you like it Sandy :) :)
when doing some stamping nail art, use water based top coats first and then you can add some other top coat if you want. I found that all other top coats smudge my design no matter how long I leave it to dry :)
Thanks for sharing! :)
