    I had a customer one time who drove it like that to the garage, 2 injectors were jumping like mad. In my opinion injector washers should be replaced as precautions as the always go. I've replaced them on my a4 at 90k and you could see a lot of wear on them. Good job as always.

    Great video dave only done one recently myself managed to drop the copper washer in the head just my luck 🤣 lucky I did the other injector bolt was only finger tight also this seems to be a fairly common problem in them done a good few recently. I think I'll be recommending doing all 4 seals and o rings snd and 2 bolts anymore. Also got a part number for the wee caps you used to blank the injectors

    That's good timing. I've got to do the same job on a Q5 this week. Looked at it last week and 2 of the injectors were moving with clamp bolt loose. Strange thing is I had fault code for low fuel pressure P0087 and flashing coil light. Code only went after tightening clamp bolt. Doing all four o-rings, copper washers, bolts and cam cover seals. TPS £120 😯. Great video, cheers 👍

  • @Russell_Duncan
    @Russell_Duncan Před 2 lety

    Would love to know why this happens?? Had a couple like that now. Last one at the turn of the year pushed #4 injector out so far that the high pressure pipe was pulled almost straight and the tip of the injector nozzle had fouled on a cam lobe. Thread was pulled out of the head too. The clamp bolt looked slightly stretched in the threaded portion and I wondered if a previous repairer had recycled the clamp bolt?? It had likely been apart as the polystyrene cover was missing. Still, one of these where you can never be certain about the cause. Was shouting stop-stop at my iPad when your torque elbow was tightening the original bolt 😜. Had a wee smile too at your paint mark on the bolt head: that’s exactly what I did when I finished the repairs. Asked the owner to have a wee squint at them from time to time. Top job as always Dave 👍

    • @davesterl
      @davesterl  Před 2 lety +3

      Yeah Russell, i think it's all just a single M6 thread holding 2 injectors. Not enough clamping force. Also the copper seals are thinner and small diameter than typical seals in other cars. As the seal perishes there can be fractional movement. Just my immediate thoughts compared to other makes.

  • @RoxusRemo

    Hi Dave,
    Great vids as always.
    I have the CAHA 2.0tdi in my A5 thats sat in a local audi specialist garage at the min.
    I had erratic idle (surging) and misfires under 2k rpm. Fuel pressure all over the shot.
    Car was running when I dropped it off but since they've looked at the car and unplugged various sensors my car no longer starts and they are suspecting HPFP failure. They said pressure is too low in the rail to start but then later on they checked and it was higher?
    No metal swarf under the fuel regulator either, injectors are fine (according to them).
    I'm suspecting its a faulty relief valve? I've ordered a complete used rail with both sensors to the garage for them to test before we go down an expensive pump replacement.
    Any pointers as the guy working on my car doesn't seem super thorough on what he's done and I don't get how it ran fine with the fault but now it doesn't!
    What would you be checking to rule out the various sensors and then the pump?
    Cheers!

      It would be foolish to even contemplate a risk of dropping a small component, especially non-magnetic, into the valvetrain or becoming jammed wrongly orientated into the deep recess potentially giving headache, more components to be removed to retrieve it and adding time to the job due to your own stupidity. Every professional person in any discipline makes decisions based on risk mitigation and time, trouble and effort against magnitude of reward. There is no realistic decision making required here and when a solution is very simple makes it a daft idea
