  • I have been getting a lot of questions about which settings I use with my Browning trail cameras, so here you go. I hope these tips help. Let me know in the comment section what you're trying to get pictures or videos of with your trail camera and if you have any more questions. My favorite Browning model is the Recon Force Advantage.

    Great video Mike! I use the same settings in my trail camera videos as well, all except for the length. My video length remains at I minute because I have had a lot of action continuous and animals returning or other animals following. Love the lithium’s they truly are the best for your money. Again keep up the awesome trail camera videos!

    Good advice. Not sure how you're concluding that lithium is less expensive however...than what...alkaline? I use 2800mAh rechargeable NiMH batts in these Browning cameras and they work great. If I were leaving my cams out for many months they probably wouldn't be enough, but for checking every 3-4 weeks they work great, and obviously rechargeable 100s of times...so much cheaper (and less waste) than lithiums IF you're going to be checking your cams every couple of weeks rather than longer-term.

    Thanks for the tips. Have you had any problems with the smart IR video continuing to video when the camera detects movement from wind blowing branches or grass around? I'm just getting started with trail cameras, using 3 Stealth cams, which don't have that Smart IR video function. At first I thought it sounded like a really cool option, but I would be afraid in a storm it could cause the camera to record video continuously. I have had a problem with the cameras triggering video after video, from wind blown branches though, and have learned to be really careful about not setting the cameras where wind blown vegetation could cause the problem. The first time I had it happen there was a bush about 30 feet away that started whipping around in a storm, and triggered the camera several hundred times in a row. One option the Stealth cam has that I like is you can set it to record video and take a series of photos at the same time during the video.
    I always hated trail cams, because around here there are cameras at nearly every tank. I hate feeling like I'm constantly being videoed everytime I'm near a waterhole. But now, after watching yours and other's trail cam videos on CZcams, I'm hooked! I can't wait to check my cameras, and find new places to set them up. I'm trying to find less obvious places than water holes to set them at, so I'm not getting as good of video as I could be. I am getting lots of elk and deer, coyotes and javalina a few times, but little else. One quick glimpse of a bear, but no lions or bobcats yet.
    Keep those excellent videos coming.

    • @Michael.Outside
      @Michael.Outside  Před 2 lety +1

      I’ve had it happen sometimes but this camera is pretty good at not triggering on branches and such. I also try to set it up so that that’s not an issue. I avoid blowing grass and branches in front of the camera for the most part. I would avoid manmade waterholes. You’ll get cooler stuff maybe on the trails leading to them. Try walking a half mile or so away or finding hidden natural pools. Thanks so much for watching.

    You and I think alike on these settings. I set everything the same as you. Hard to beat the Browning cameras. Have you used the micro camera? I was just curious how just having 6 batteries holds up. I use nothing but Lithium batteries. Cheaper in the long run and they pretty much last me a year even in video mode which is what I set my camera on.

    • @Michael.Outside
      @Michael.Outside  Před rokem +1

      I have not tried the micro camera. I’m picky with my video quality and the only cameras I trust are the HP5 and the advantage. Thanks for the nice comment.

    Hi fela,can I ask if there's any cons to using the FW upgrade,just not sure whether to use it or not,my spec ops doesn't seem to record video at night, haven't tried photo at night so not sure if that works.

    • @Michael.Outside
      @Michael.Outside  Před rokem +1

      Howdy. I haven’t used the Spec Ops. I’ve actually never used any firmware updates on any of my cameras, so I can’t really speak intelligently to them. But if your camera isn’t working at night, maybe it’s worth a try. If you got a lemon camera, hopefully browning will work with you.

    Hi,
    Thanks for thieses advices. I was looking for tips because I very often have a white veil on my night video. I wonder why because there is no mist during the night concerned. I had IR on long range, but I had a bush juste 4m away. I'll try on economy range. I have the BTC-8A

    Thanks for the video. This year we started doing trail camera videos. Sometimes because of a windy day, the sd card fills up or the battery gets drained. What do you do to reduce the number of videos caused by wind? I don’t really want to reduce the sensitivity and miss some neat videos, and sometimes it’s difficult to set up without bushes etc around that can easily trigger the camera on a windy day.

    • @Michael.Outside
      @Michael.Outside  Před 2 lety +1

      I pick setups that aren’t going to get a lot of blowing grass and such. I also use lithium batteries and 128 GB SD cards in case I do get a lot of triggers from the wind. I hope that helps some.

    • @naturescheckpoint3047

      @@Michael.Outside Thanks! The camera I currently use can only take a 32 gb card so I can't do much about that, but could try lithium batteries and see if I can adjust the location set up.

    • @garyknepper4546
      @garyknepper4546 Před rokem +1

      About the best thing to do is cut down things in front of the camera that wind will blow. Also close limbs above the camera will set it off and need cut. I really have done best facing my cameras as much north as you can. Sun on your camera lens makes wind issues worse.

      Unfortunately you can’t really change the image that way. The camera makes a decision based on the exposure like your smart phone would. You can try photo editing software. Or if you think the camera is defective you can ask Browning to fix it.
