    It doesn't make sense that a species would be able to build...ANYTHING, without digits to manipulate objects, so my big complaint is creature design. They made mindless animalistic monsters who are purely predatory with no personal behaviors or culture, and expect me to believe that they came together over time to learn how to construct spacefaring technology, mine/process/manufacture/assemble the components, communicate and coordinate for planning and actualizing operations...I don't believe for a second that this species can even fashion a single tool, has the capability to think beyond its next meal...And yet it crossed space in technology we have yet to master?
    Fuck that.

      Well thought. You'd have to be absolute in imagination to pull logic out of this franchise. An analogy might help; You are be able to eat healthy due to the privilege of first world opportunities. But you chose to eat a burger to fill the gap of boredom created by the habit for consumption.
      Also these creatures might be just one little virus of a bigger organism.

      that's why the aliens int the 2005 wotw are better, because they look intelligent and look like they are dangerous brutes, but more than just animals. This series had the perfect setting but imo ruined the designs or the tripods and the pilots

    Whoever designed the actual martians with 3 peglegs and a straw mouth should be barred from any further production design for perpetrating such an act of bio-illogical stupidity.

      budget constraints. So much potential and great scenes from the novel are totally absent or reduced to mere passing mentions. A real shame, started strong but fell apart at the end of the miniseries.

    War of the worlds has always been about the terror of an advanced civilisation invading earth and the hopelessness it brings, there should be a sense of dread that remains through the entire story, humans to them are like rats that need to scurry away and hide in the cracks and crevices to survive.
    The novel, musical and even the Spielberg film show the themes of machines vs nature, colonialism and complete defeat better than BBC does, the tripods feel like zombies in the walking dead, only a threat when they’re needed to be by the writers, and these Martians are the most foreign to H.G.Wells original depiction, looking more like faceless ticks than something that strikes horror into its witnesses.
    Though this vid does give a good applause to the VFX team and they completely deserve it, while the Martians don’t look fitting the tripods look pretty damn cool and seeing how much they transformed modern filming locations into a realistic Victorian London is amazing! Wish that talent could be spread to the rest of the writing and directing team

    I'm not going to go into various issues with the show, such as a rather heavy moralistic hand with the writing and a half-hearted attempt at 'modernising' a female character. What I did find intriguing was the design of the Martians. Someone must have been having nightmares to come up with a life-form that had a flesh and bone limb structure combined with the arched legs of a spider. Also, so many modern aliens, including those in the Spielberg adaptation, have humanoid features- to choose to design a creature with no discernable features other than telescopic mouthparts was a bold move, making these Martians utterly alien. To then have them showing human like emotions (like the one grieving for its dead mate in the courtyard scene) makes their presence even more impactful!

    • @rapatacush3
      @rapatacush3 Před 8 měsíci +2

      Modernising a female character? There was no female character to begin with. The wife just barely was there on the book.

    I loved this adaptation. I felt for these chatacters. It focused on the real sense if humanity unlike the Spielberg adaptation that was nothing more than a demo of special effects. In the end i felt nothing for the characters. In my opinion this adaptation was....brilliant! The last scene with Amy and her son was amazing. I'd love a sequel.

    While many didn't like it because a beloved character dies in the end, I thought it was very well acted and done with originality. The FX were absolutely incredible. The main part I didn't like was killing off the kid. Come on guys, a little adorable biracial kid holding her teddy bear being crunched and having her innards liquefied and sucked out? A bit much.
