That first fish at the start of video was a ripper. Love surf fishing, not easy to fish in washing machine conditions. Went with my dad a lot as a kid. You brought back fond memories.

nice video I live on Oahu and the yellow fish you guys were catching you guys need to take and keep because they are invasive. we want those out of our waters. they are called Taape.
Great to see you Gabe, having fun fishing with friends and interesting facts about black sand beaches. In the north east region of England where I come from, it used to be an area of heavy industry and coal mining. Particularly at the height when coal was king a lot of the spoil would be dumped at sea and then end up washing up on the beaches creating pretty nasty black beaches. All of the mining stopped ages ago allowing the coastline and beaches to recover. All fascinating stuff, look forward to your next video Gabe, aloha.

Hi Gabe, another good video from you. My wife and I were there on Tuesday morning (@ gov. Beach road dead end). I wanted to park and walk it, but concerned about possibly getting fined. That gov. Beach road, now that it is paved would make an excellent, flat and easy bicycle ride. 🌈😃🤙

If the current is good, balloon fishing might be good. Ever do it? Use a slider with your weight on your line, blow up a small balloon pretty tight, RIP the curled edge off of the balloon and just barely hook it through the slider. Hold the balloon to make sure it will hold the weight. Lower it down to the water, open your slack and let the current take your line out. When you reach the desired distance quickly reel in the slack and YANK the balloon off. Remember...if you catch a big fish, you've got to reel it back in that distance. Did that from a pier with a 70 lb. sturgeon once!!!

I am too concerned about Cigguaterra reef toxins so I avoid eating reef fish myself. Ahi tuna all the way for me, though shore fishing looks fun. There is no test that detects it as the old UH test was shown to be inaccurate and retired. Looks like a great place to relax, if you can get there. Crumbling Basalt rock is the nature of volcanic geology.
