- So here's something new... My wife and I got married last year, and had deferred our honeymoon due COVID. Well, a few months back, we decided to take a chance a book a trip to Hawaii, though we had know idea that the Delta strain would become as big of an issue as it did. That being said, we did our best to make the best of the situation, and for me, that included take a few opportunities to fish. Please know, I had very little knowledge of fishing the area going in. After a few false starts, I was able to get on some action... hope you enjoy!

4:40 we call Kupipi. 6:25 we call hagi. 12:48 we call kokala, or pufferfish/ballonfish.. 14:00 we call papio. The one you caught specifically is an omilu. 17:30 is a po'opa'a. 19:33 we call aha. And eels are puhi 🎣
Awesome! Thanks for watching, and providing all the fish IDs!
90% of those are edible too. Papio, Poopaa, and kipipi is good eating
You have motivated me to bring my fly rod (spey) and try tourist mode fishing on the big island! Love how you practice catch and release! Just like me!
Haha, awesome! Hope you get on some good action, thanks for the comment!
The first 2 fish is called kupipi and is one of the best baits for catching omilu or Gt's.. set a bigger hook on its back and you could use a floater and wait patiently and BOOM!! Great fight..nice vid ..aloha🤙
Yeah, I wanted to try and catch some smaller fish to live line for bait, but I never quite got anything too small until it was too late... plus I wasn't 100% sure about the regs, so I didn't want to chance it! Regardless, thanks for the comment!
Enjoy the rest of your trip, awesome fishing and some fantastic footage.
Thanks for watching and the kind comment!
That puffer was so cool looking!! Feeding that eel looked wild, I can't believe it came that far out of the reef. Hope you had a fun honeymoon man! Hawaii looks gorgeous
Yeah, those puffers were wild, and it didn't take a lot of coercing to make them bite! There were probably another 8-10 that I hooked/caught, but I didn't want to overdo it on the footage! The eel was a blast too! Thanks for the kind comment!
Awesome video 👍🏻 keep up the good work man.
Thanks for the kind comment! More videos coming soon!
Enjoying your videos. Keep em coming, nephew!
Thanks! I’m hoping to get back on the fish again soon!
@@FishinAccomplished Going trout fishing (fly, catch & release) on Watauga river in Western NC on Wed with guys from my club. Googan on the Fly!
@@dicknicholson7345 hope you guys get on a good bite!
Awesome video.. born and raised kauai! 🤙🏾 nice video!
Awesome! Happy I got to scope out the spots while I was there, it's an incredible place! Thanks for the kind words!
I thought I saw lava rock on your IG, looked like an awesome place and a fun laid back adventure. those eels are so bold! I think the striped fish in beginning looked like a seargent major or green damselfish, have no clue on the little tiny one, maybe a wrasse or gobie. Cool that you got a trevally, those really are the prized sport fish to catch over there. I went to Hawaii once (big island) and fished just like you did from the lava rock and had the same issues you talked about, I didn't catch nearly as much as you did but I did get the state fish they call the "humuhumunukunukuapua" yea crazy name, but essentially a colorful triggerfish. Very cool Dan, thanks for a cool change of pace - hope you enjoyed the trip
Yeah Peter, you were seeing correctly! Yeah, this wasn't anything too serious, but it was fun to give a completely different type of fishing a go. Thanks for the fish ID's, and yeah, there was some cool stuff around. I did a lot of snorkeling there, which I actually have some good footage of, and I saw some much larger trevally... was hoping to tie up with one of them, but it wasn't meant to be! Yeah, I did find some variety of trigger fish with this method, though I don't think I got that one that you referenced fishing from the shore... Regardless, thanks for the kind comment, and I'm hoping to get back on the local NY fish soon!
It’s like fishing in a aquarium!! Have a good time bro.
Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking! Thanks for watching!
Loved the vid! Aloha from Maui
Thanks for the kind comment, and tuning in!
Great video, love the content
Thanks for the comment!
Mazel tov! Beautiful place to fish just be careful on the volcanic rock.
Thanks, yeah, I was sure to really take my time navigating around those rocks! Thanks for watching!
Not that it matters now, but for future reference, I wouldn't mess with the eels. You only need to meet one person missing a chunk out of their hand to gain that perspective.
I fish on vacation also, bring a de-hooker next time, you don't have to handle the fish and you can release him very easily.. Great video, thank you
Aye I was just there a week ago… it was gorgeous hope you have a great time!
Yes, truly a beautiful place! Thanks for watching!
What a beautiful spot and a gorgeous variety of triggers! Cool puffer too. Enjoy the rest of your hawaii trip 👍
Yeah, it was incredible how many different kinds their were, and the subtle and pronounced differences! Thanks for watching!
Mauna lani!!!! We love that place. Family loves it. I stick strictly to a bubble float to stay away from those bait lovers. All n all good action!! Check out a few of my vids you’ll recognize the spot. Looks like you went to the right of the hotel. 🤙🤙
Yeah, I definitely had to go through a bit of trial and error to get on those fish... but I was just happy to catch anything! Thanks for the feedback and I'll be sure to check out your content! Tight lines!
Nice here from Kauai you just got a new sub
Thanks so much for the comment!
Not sure if anyone told you in the comment section but next time you come to Hawaii and want to catch a giant gt in Hawaii we call ulua our price fish. eel is one of the best baits you can use! Slide bait method works Best so a bigger Setup would be needed.
Thanks for the feedback! I'll keep that in mind whenever I'm in town again!
I enjoyed.
Thanks for watching!
Too cool! Can you explain your rig set-up? Where is the weight?
puffer can cut a aluminum can like a pair of side cutters! you where brave coming that close to its chompers..😁
Haha, yeah, I took one look at that mouth, and knew there was no way I was going to even attempt to get that hook out!
Pliers. Little kids remove puffers, just don’t stick your finger in their mouth. Just messed up that fish’s chance of survival and dropped a hook in the ocean.
That was the perfect size for bait in Hawaii
Thanks, I was really clueless going in, so I was happy just to catch anything! Thanks for the comment!
YOU FED THE PUHI AND TRIED TO GRAB IT?!
USE PLIARS AND REMOVE THE HOOK!!!!!
huge tip.. dont ever turn your back to the ocean ... people die due to it. even when it seems calm like in this vid. also becareful when handling puffer fish. theyll literally bite your entire finger off in one chomp. hell they bite thru 1/0 hooks shouldve hooked up with some locals. also pronounced Pah-pee-oh papio. god damn.. you are crazy for having your fingers that close to the puffers mouth.. really lucky
If you catch a fish, take responsibility for removing the hook. Please don't pollute the Hawaiian sea. A lot of fishing hooks are falling in the sea, and turtles and seals are injured.
He can’t tell the fish to not swallow the hook -_-
The hooks also rust and fall out.
The hooks degrade very fast in salt water
A responsible fisherman would carry a dehooker
@@AsianAnglingAddicthalf the real fisherman I know don’t own a de hooker. If the fish swallows it cut the line if it didn’t and you don’t wanna grab it use pliers.
where is this area?
This was on the big Island of Hawaii... I believe in the Kona area, but I'm not entirely sure! It was walking distance from the resort I was staying at.
So basically u can go any shore as long as its not one of those regulated bay?
Mauna lani golf course
You’re not in Kansas anymore bro.
It’s like fishing in a giant tropical fish tank.
Absolutely, I was essentially just watching the fish swarm my bait! What an experience!
Mano Hawaiian fish Mano correction mamo
This guy smh goes fishing without good preparation. You can buy a proper tool to unhook any fish. But no you give your hooks to the ocean🙄
