Always looks like he's about to throw me a football.
XD Brett Farve or whatever his name is
You’re such a help! Not only am I ready to paint my living room, I’m also pumped to go to the gym and hit some PR’s!
Just wanted to say how informative and helpful these videos are. If you do searches on painting videos you'd be very hard pressed to find anything nearly as spot on for tips and tricks for a painting business and the DIYer. Thanks Chris hope you keep them coming.
Thanks Idaho Painter for taking the time to put these videos together. They help to reinforce what we somtimes know and to learn a few tricks along the way..
I like this video. Straight and to the point. I'm getting the same tools you used so I can start painting my home. Thank you!
I've been in the trades for years and can do anything from plumbing and electrical to drywall and finish carpentry. I've recently started painting my own jobs and staining my own fences. I've always taken painting for granted and thought it was a grunt trade. although most of the work is tedious, painting is one of the hardest trades to master (This coming from a journeyman carpenter and maintenance man). I absolutely love the free information that you give us Chris and today I stained my first cedar fence like a pro thanks to you. My clients were over my shoulder all day, and thanks to your advice, I made $600 today and was home by 3PM. So fuck all these haters that aren't learning from you. I don't get why people complain about you running a business and being an entrepreneur. You work probably 10x harder than all these complainers. Please keep up the amazing work and thank you for taking pride in everything you do. You da man Idaho Painter.
I'm subbing to this channel too because they obviously know great work when they see it.
I agree with this man thanks for offering us this free advice ill be painting my daughters room soon so its a big help!
CZcams needs more comments like this 💯
As a finisher I can agree , there alot to it
I do the same thing..... But a cool trick I learned it to lay the roll of tape flat on the wall while placing and sticking the tape.. makes life easier.. can't always rely on using the trick since walls and trim aren't always straight.. but it works most of the time.
It would be nice for a close up so we could see how close he got with a straight line
You just put in on the base and don't let it touch the wall, it automatically should be a straight line lol
we didn't even have masking tape in my country until about 10 years ago, great stuff, now hopefully we will get that roller that combines it with the paper
Thanks for the vid! I come from a pretty frugal family so it was always my job to do edging because everyone is too cheap to buy tape. I take my own tape with to help paint because for me time is an investment and it's a whole lot easier to reposition the tape than to get paint off of trim.
Cheers mate. Concise and informative, a really good video for first time home owners.
I usually tuck the drop cloth under the paper near the wall. That way if the drop cloth moves, it doesn't touch my freshly painted wall and the roller has no chance of touching the drop cloth. Plus it will lessen the chance of stepping on the paper masking. Of course I'm not a professional, but this is just my preferred method. I've always used disposable plastic drop cloths. I've also used an old bed sheet before as a drop cloth. Plastic ones are horrible and move around and get holes in them.
Great video!
I'd love to see one showing how to easily texture and repaint drywall repairs.
I really enjoy your videos. I've started using 9 foot plastic taped to the baseboards in houses I am spraying and I pull it all out into the middle of the room and spray away.
Hi from Switzerland. Great vid, thanks for the tips.
Thanks for this one !! I’ll be painting my rooom soo thanks for the tips !
Thanks! I have never painted a room before and wanted to know how to tape it.
I use a drop and I carry a wet towel for paint drops I cut in everything with my paint brush
would you recommend painting that same room with an airless sprayer as the Graco UltraMax 390 Hi-Boy?
Great video!
Your're an amazing instructor! makes the job really easy!
Thanks! Very informative.
I haven't tried the *Frog Tape* yet but if it works like it is supposed to then it's worth it.
Thanks. Looks really efficient.
Useful tips, thanks! Quick question... after you've painted, when do you remove the masking? I'm guessing not straight away or the paint could run? And not when it's dry as the bond between paint and masking would be too strong? Thanks...
If the blinds are not to big and heavy, most new styles have a quick release feature to just pop them out and get them out of the way. I've only used the 4ft. pull out plastic with the masking gun. Do you find the paper works better for you? Just curious. Great video with clear instructions. Thanks!
which masking tapes do you use in the us for top precision
Chris, I have a question. How do you determine if a interior home should be sprayed, or rolled? My sis in law just bought a home. She’s going from a dark cream color wall to a more modern light grey. Any tips before I spear head this project would be very appreciative. Thx!
Hi kind of a silly question seeing how fast and professional your masking job was however do you think if you had a masking tape dispenser you could wear on either hip would make your masking jobs easier and faster?
How to mask off a room FIRST STEP: go to the gym and pump iron!
Thank you
At a bar minimum level if you had to paint with limted supplies what p4oducts would you suggest instead of brand names
Is there a "seen on youtube" isle at my local ACE hardwhere I can buy the accubrush; I didn't watch the end of the commercial?
Do you have a video to show how to tape carpet before painting?
Nice video. Digging those tattoos.
I didn’t see you cover the electric plate. What do you suggest on the electric outlet plates?!
Thanks
How do you cover fire sprinklers prior to painting with a paint gun?
Thx this helped
Don't forget to wipe the base quickly with denatured alcohol to get the dust off.
Hy from Malawi I like your work
What about putting tape over the whole frame and door? Is that also necessary?
1:30 "Frog cakes and keep your pain from bleeding through the tape and make it all Jaggi, so and that's a little bit more money get some vodka it's not cheap but it's well worth the model" Top notch subs right there 🤔 😂
I lay tape over edge, then press tape down with softer wood like a paint stir stick, then I cut the edge with a razor blade. Then one more press down with finger.
Great video! As someone who's messed up painting rooms all my life, this was really helpful. One quick question:
Is there a reason it's better to lay the drop cloth on top of the paper vs laying the paper on top of the drop cloth? My thinking was that any splatter would be quickly thrown away and there would be less mess on the cloth that you would need to let dry. I'm sure there's a good reason.
Thanks again!
The drop cloth helps hold down the paper and keep it from pulling off the wall when you kick it or step on it.
I wish he would slow down and take a breath.
People like him just can't..
I like the enthusiasm!
😂😂
Time is money !
He’s a breaking bad extra
For new home owners: Would you advise hands washing bedroom walls BEFORE starting the painting project ?
Sand
90% of success is in the prep work!
Here is a tip, if you feel you are ready to roll the wall, I suggest you remove the plates over outlets and switches. Much more professional job if you paint under the plates instead of around them.
Even though you’re a professional painter do you always use tape?
Why wouldn't you remove the baseboard trim to get an even better finish? You leave the outlet/ light switch plate covers on? I've always taken them off.
That is a better idea though 💡 thanks for the tip
That's great advice. 2 questions though. Won't paint seep through the paper and that drop clothe? Why do painters wear white? Thanks again.
i have painted most of my life and have heard many stories ,but my understanding it comes from union.. every craft has a color and painters didnt have a color so they were mixed in with the plasterers who wear white ..this i heard from the old timers that i worked under years ago ,
these were the days before sheetrock haha
I was able to paint my bathroom because of this guy!
How long do you wait before masking freshly painted trim?
You mask if BEFORE you paint it.
I’m trying to go into the painting industry as soon as possible but I have no experience what advice would u give someone like me that’s trying to be a professional my uncles a painter and we was supposed to go on and work for ourselves but he abandoned me so I’m on CZcams tryna figure this stuff out so that I can do it for someone who actually wants a painter🤦🏻♂️
What about the ceiling?
Put your drop below the masking paper. Keeps drop cleaner with less chance of drips to make a mess on the floor via your shoes. almost all sprinkles will hit either the 9 or 12 in paper first.
Why do you prefer Frogtape over blue painter's tape, say from 3M?
Frogtape is great! Costs a little more but the crisp lines are worth it.
Asking for myself.. because I hate taping I just cut in and taping takes forever
Why he look like he about to wrestle someone? 😂
I just use large newsprint paper to have all messy paint & also stick all the masking on when taking off
Roll it up & trash it
Non ci ho capito niente comunque siete fantastici
Why didn’t you take the blinds down?
how to painting House
also remove ALL electrical cover plates not mentioned
I wish to work for you. Sich insurance is amazing for customer satisfaction! My old boss made me free hand without protection on anything except the carpet.
Sounds like you had a very shitty boss who probably won’t earn much repeat or referral business

Mask on, fuck it, mask off!

I have two good friends who own painting companies, and they never mask things off. They just cut it in with a good brush. That is also what I have always done. Masking seems like something for amateurs.
Jonathan Mulzer I think that's the point. These videos aren't intended for professionals.
To this day I don't understand why most painters go with the paper tape when is soaks up paint like a sponge.
Wow has your quality been upgraded since this, this is the video I might be looking for, but I tape just like that and am to anal, I did see a video though that they use the wall to keep it tight, I'll try it
Plugs??
show an upclose shot
You forgot to mask the power outlet
Lol it’s soooo hilarious
How to use a hand masker hahahaa i do that sh* in my sleep
Masking a room gives a false sense of security. I paint for a handyman in town and never mask off the rooms. I don't feel it is fair to the customer to pay me to put up and take down tape. If you want to learn to cut in without tape, cut in a ceiling that tape will not adhere to such as popcorn. Even textured ceilings and walls will not work with tape. Use a good brush and paint with confidence.
Confidence doesn't cut strait lines, tape does. And a word of advice for popcorn ceilings is to first use either an all in one painters tool or a flathead screw driver and go along the entire ceiling/wall and scrap a strait line completely around the room to remove any over run popcorn that is at the top of the walls so that it gives you a much better sharper cut in that won't overlap onto the ceiling.
I would do 2 drop clothes
Get more don’t faster
Meth is one hell of a drug
Wow. So fast. not really showing how to do it.
An waste of tape.😂
Lack of brush skills = big waste of money on frog tape.
I always tape and have been doing this for 30 years. Much better cleaner crisp lines. Looks more professional and my clients love it 👍
sorry...if you are that sloppy, go get another profession....i have never used tape in my life and when I'm done there is no paint ripped off to mess up what i just did...so learn to paint WITHOUT IT
What about the ceiling?
