There's no need to argue about who's better, johan or marcolin, both of them are awesome, just listen and enjoy.

Love Messiah Marcolin's opera-style voice but the original is an absolute masterpiece.

Love both of the masters of Candlemass but his operatic style is still the best match for the band.

I fucking love Messiahs Voice. Candlemass is my favorite Band and I'm a very huge band. But this song fits more with Johans voice. Even if this Version is perfect too!

I like all the three singers (Messiah, Johan and Robert).
They sound really different from each other but all the three voices are awesome :)

Whenever you get someone to do another guy's vocals, it always sounds off. If Johan was doing the vocals on At The Gallows End, i'm pretty sure it wouldn't be the same either. Overall i still think i'm a Marcolin guy, but both guys are great.

Actually there's a version of At The Gallows End with Johan, but years later and his voice isn't the same.

+kevin taylor I had a Messiah Marcolin version of this song (it might be this one) and "Crystal Ball" on the "At The Gallows End" cassette maxi-single back in '88. Too bad I don't have it anymore...

Definitely not him just singing over the original. The solo is different so I'd say it's a re recording they did! Doom on!

      @AwakenTheGuardian Před 8 lety +3

Most of it sounds spot on, but they got Lasse Johansson around the same time, so It's likely they used bits of the original and added these parts to show off the talent of the new guys

Great version and with Robert Lowe too, Waiting for the new album Door to Doom with Johan Langquist! 03:00
    Lyrics:
I'm sitting here alone in darkness
    waiting to be free,
    Lonely and forlorn I'm crying
I long for my time to come
    death means just life
Please let me die in solitude
    Hate is my only friend
    pain is my father
    torment is delight to me
    Death is my sanctuary
    I seek it with pleasure
Please let me die in solitude
    Receive my sacrifice
    my lifeblood is exhausted
    no-one gave love and understanding
    Hear these words
    vilifiers and pretenders
and please let me die in solitude
    Earth to earth
    Ashes to ashes
    Dust to dust

The new album sucks! Johan's voice is too weak and the sound just isn't the same. They should have done a new album with Rob Lowe if anything, even though Psalms was supposed to be the band's farewell

13 Tooth I think it's a matter of taste. Anyone can say "Both of them not good enough. King Diamond is no.1". For me, Messiah is better than Papa.

      @tonyiommi74  Před 8 lety +1

+Jeffrey P Hi Jeff! As far as i hear, this is E flat tuning. In early years Candlemass played usualy E flat (or D#).

tonyiommi74 Thanks, my man! I hate having to adjust my Floyd, every time I change tuning, so it helps to know where I'm going, before I start! :) Been a Candlemass fan since about 89, love the band!

+Jeffrey P Personly, i hate FR system. Seems to me as a trouble. Of course i have to say i'm a LP and SG guy. And maybe because of that, i am a little bit prejudist :)
But my man, u r right! This band is awesome!! I hope never disbands. I think they can go on with Mats Leven.

This version is much better. The Johan version is only good live, that's only when he not using an effects.
The original Johan version uses too many addons and it just gives a headache. Messiah Marcolin makes it listenable now.
